Harvest Moon Pinot Grigio 2023Callie has grown up with wine in the blood. It was family holidays to Chianti in Italy, and tasting’s at Louis Roederer in France that sparked a serious passion in Callie from a very young age. Having studied psychology and criminology at Melbourne University, and qualifying as a chef it was the lure of wine and more so vineyards that she just couldn’t resist. She’s now studying wine making at Charles Sturt University, and has already worked at some A-list wineries, including De Bortoli in the Yarra Valley, Littorai Wines in California and Fattoria Zerbina in Romagna.
This is a smashing combo of classic Alsace and northern Italian style grigio. Bursting with Apple, pear, some honeysuckle spice, and a hint minerally goodness too that you don't often find at this level. It's the lighter side of mid-wright packed with crispy fruit and plenty of it the focus to a fine, citrus-driven fresh with lots of crunch and energy. The quintessential drink don't think wine.

Domaine de Chatillon Jacquere 2020We were a bit chuffed to get this wine when trying it recently particularly given that you don't see a lot of jacquere wines out of Savoie at the price. The chateau is based in the Chatillon castle, a Roman watch tower built 70AD to signal the regiments along the Rhone River. It's pretty striking stuff in the hills there and the high-altitude vineyards lend a lovely racy edge to the wines.
Light bodied and crisp with a clean, steely minerality and light floral blossom accents on top of waxy citrus and green apple fruit. On the palate it races through cutting with mandarin and lemon peel apple/pear flavours and plenty of energetic acidity that drives a clean, mineral finish spiked with qartz and white pepper. A Portuguese transplant, arinto is looking like it will settle into McLaren Vale with some ease. This, a case in point. Free run, a little of the light pressings, and wild fermented in steel. Pear and dried apple lashed with brine, savoury-spiked with parsley seed and fennel frond, a water-splashed-concrete mineral note accenting. Domaine la Roubine La Grange de Briguieres Sablet 2022The personality of the maker - generous and jovial - is on full display via black and red fruits while blue florals and the liquorice that jumps out of the glass, give the wine it's aromatic swagger. On the palate too, it's direct; big on flavour and impact with that same red and black fruited attack laying the groundwork for a more complex array of mineral, hung meat, liquorice, dried herbs and smoke. Pretty much like falling head first into a hypothetical vat the Southern Rhone itself. Medium to full bodied with plenty of structure to cope with anything from the bbq to the one-pot wonder.
