A gorgeously bright and savoury Pinot Noir from this 24-ha parcel in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA is done at 50% whole cluster. It's got pretty aromatics of savoury dried herbs, fresh mint, evergreen tips and early-season strawberries. The palate flashes a real depth of fruit with rich brambleberries, brightened by pine sap, smoked sea salt and sumac notes. The 2022 Pinot Noir Goodrich comes from marine sedimentary soils and was crafted with around 40% whole clusters. It has powerful, broody scents of red and black cherries, iron, mushroom powder and violet. The medium-bodied palate has a finely chalky texture and explosive, juicy fruit that lures you in for another taste. Deliciously ripe, the Mount Richmond site is secluded, sitting at the western end of the Willamette Valley with south-east-facing slopes. It's generously aromatic with Christmas spice and clove that lead to black and red berry fruits. From a hillside vineyard, Clay Court is on top of Parrett Mountain comes a beautifully balanced Pinot Noir. Ruby red-hued with great floral elegance, showy notes of dusty red berries, and a gravelly minerality. The palate is fleshy, red-fruited and delicious; a squeeze of blood orange brightens the affair; it's followed on by tart cranberries, green tea leaves and an array of savoury dried herbs, finishing with tart cherries and a hint of minerality. The 2022 Pinot Noir Clay Court, grown on volcanic Jory soils, has wonderfully spicy aromas of cinnamon, tea leaves, mossy bark and mushrooms complementing a core of raspberry and red cherry jam. Opulent aromas of rose petals, smoke and crushed raspberries mark this wine from the La Bohème Vineyard, planted in 1985. The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills has a medium ruby color and pretty scents of cinnamon stick, aniseed, iron, underbrush and charcuterie with a core of red cherries and cranberries. Medium-bodied yet very concentrated, it has a powdery frame, sparks of refreshing acidity and a very long, graphite-driven finish. This is impeccably composed and seductively expressed, showing dark cherry, clove, thyme and cedar characters on the nose with a gorgeous floral overtone. The concentrated palate is plush yet poised and refined with fleshy texture and perfectly pitched tannins. The 2021 Pinot Noir definitely reflects vintage. Its good colour and abundance of gravelly tannins display the smaller berried, smaller vintage. Its bright fruit, intense concentration and plentiful acidity accompany primary red fruit flavour, with an impressive show of ample black tea leaf-like tannins. Lively and vibrant red fruits of wild strawberries and red cherries followed by rose hips, ground spices and a touch of citrus zest. Medium-bodied, finely grained velvety tannins with a delightful acid backbone. Zesty and layered wine with beautiful balance and complexity. It's already enjoyable but will age gracefully. The 2021 Pinot Noir is vibrant on the nose and totally precise and focused. The acid spools right from the front of the palate and has a mobile, agile way about it. The season may have had it's challenges, but the wine is effortless, natural and shapely. It's great. The 40% whole bunch here sits well within the red fruit and creates a capacious mid-palate without an impact of stalky flavour. Superb. A real pleasure to drink. ERIN LARKIN, Wine Advocate

Discreet but not invisible wood frames ripe but reasonably fresh aromas of various dark berries, pretty floral nuances and Savigny style earth. The succulent, palate coating and energetic middle weight flavors conclude in a dusty, youthfully austere and nicely persistent finale. BURGHOUND

Love this wine. Has the early supple appeal of Savigny but it's not simple. Red fruits, brown spice and lingering florals plus a dusting of background wood characterise the nose. The palate is immediately red fruited and eveloping with a supple texture that again has some drying limestone dusty quality. It's easier than the Nuits and a more immediate proposition but it will stand cellaring for at least 5-8 years. MICHAEL MCNAMARA, PWS

Our top New Zealand wine of 2022 is the Ata Rangi Pinot Noir Martinborough 2020. It is textural, deep and seamlessly balanced, as well as supremely perfumed and vibrant. Made from the estate's oldest parcels planted 42 years ago, it demonstrates the power of pinot noir coming out of Martinborough. (98) JAMES SUCKLING

The big one, made from 39 year-old Abel clone vines. Doesn't sound like much but in New Zealand terms this spans the country's development as a serious, wine-producing nation. Very aromatic, but into the spectrum of dried herbs, chamomile, and cedar box. An impressive, very plush, palate - big, with an incredible "structure" on the finish: it's expansive and velvety but it ends, running on with the acid and the fine, fine tannin. An umami, lush, structured, beautiful wine. (98) OLLY STYLES

The 2020 Pinot Noir reminds me of walking into a cathedral - that quiet, cool hush that falls as you walk through its doors. This is harmonious, supple, unshowy and unforced. Hailing from old vines and delicately textured despite the abundance of fruit concentration. Refined tannins with the finest of gravelly textures, akin to licking a stone. Scented yet restrained, with a fragrance of sweet red fruit, tea leaf and cedar spices with persistent acidity that carries it. Very complete and already approachable. (96) REBECCA GIBB MW

22 days on the skins and aged for two years in French barriques of which 25% were new.

Lustrous and just mid ruby with orange tinges. Sweet raspberry with savoury, salty, minerally notes and a little rich on the nose. With aeration there are hints of mint. Veglio's 2019 Barolo Castelletto is redolent of spice, menthol, licorice, sage and lavender. Incisive Monforte tannins and bright acids give the Castelletto its shape and a good bit of overall drive as well. I would cellar this for a few years and see what happens. ANTONIO GALLONI

This lovely Barolo has aromas of small red fruit, licorice and hazelnut. Reflecting the nose, the linear, full-bodied palate features juicy raspberry, crushed strawberry, star anise and toasted hazelnut alongside firm, fine-grained tannins. It still needs time to unwind. 25 days on the skins and aged for two years in French barrique of which 25% was new.

Lustrous and just mid ruby. Closed and brooding on the nose, with a hint of black pepper. Gorgeous and fresh on the palate but very backward and just hinting at red currant and raspberry. Firm but attractive tannins add real chew to the whole. The oak is practically indiscernible. Very slow to come out, elegant and complex but patience is needed. The 2019 Barolo Gattera is a powerful, broad wine. Even in the new style favored by Veglio today, the Gattera shows its natural breath along with a decidedly dark expression of La Morra. Sweet black cherry, plum, spice, new leather, licorice and mocha all meld together effortlessly. The Gattera offers lovely upfront appeal married to the classicism of the year. That's a pretty appealing combination in my book. ANTONIO GALLONI

Made from vines planted in 1950, this has aromas of berry, oak-driven spice, camphor and citrusy notes. Showing structure and a weightless finesse, the elegant, full-bodied palate delivers ripe cranberry, Morello cherry, licorice, coconut and coffee bean set against fine-grained tannins. A very Nuits like nose offers up notes of forest floor, the savage, purple fruit and an herbal tea top note. There is excellent intensity and precision to the solidly voluminous medium bodied flavors that conclude in a robust, rustic and powerful finish. This too could use more depth, but it has the stuffing to develop it. BURGHOUND

A fresh and airy nose is comprised by notes of red and dark berries along with plenty of newly turned earth character. The caressing, delicious and vibrant flavors possess very good volume before terminating in a mildly austere and sneaky long finish. This too possesses fine development potential and overall, it is a Volnay villages to consider.  BURGHOUND

Lovely aromas of raspberry and dark cherry fruit laid over a faintly stony backbeat and gorgeous blue florals of violets. The palate is medium to full with demure but insistent attack of sweet cherry and spice overtones. Love the delineated flavours as it slides across the palate. Intensity of flavour without heft. I love the limestone drying quality in this wine and the mouth aromas that mark it as a Volnay through and through. MICHAEL MCNAMARA, PWS

For co-owner Alessandro Veglio, 2020 is ‘a 2018 with more flesh’. Gattera's limestone soils provide good structure. A quite stern nose of cherry kernel, rhubarb, fresh violet and blood orange is followed by a savoury and filigree palate, with a texture to the tannins of rare elegance. The 2020 Barolo Gattera is a dark, at times somber, La Morra Barolo. Black cherry, plum, lavender, licorice, dried herbs and mocha all meld together. Pliant and deep, with notable concentration and breadth on the palate, the Gattera is a fine example of this site. Today, the 2020 is a bit closed, but I see that as a positive. ANTONIO GALLONI

San Stunet is the only Busso vineyard not in Neive, and instead is in the village of Trieso. Busso farms 1.5 hectares of vines, which sit at 400 metres in altitude on a steep gradient (16%). San Stunet soils are mostly yellow marl with a lot of limestone. The Busso vines lie on the southeast face of the ridge which delivers the deepest and most articulate Nebbiolo of this cru. The site is late ripening, usually picked 10 days after the estate’s other vineyards.

The winemaking is identical to the Albesani Vigna Borgese, but this has both more flesh and is punchier, suggesting both more tannins and acidity. Decant it and serve it in a Burgundy glass and you’ll be rewarded with a wonderful Nebbiolo loaded with character (dark cherry, honey, leather), depth and structure. It would ideally get 10 to 15 years bottle age, but if not, then lots of air.

Monvigliero is the hill top vineyard of the northern village of Barolo region , named Verduno. The wine is a champion of elegance and finesse with a soft accessible tannins. Remarkable light ruby red garnet colour. Smooth taste and round aftertaste. Monvigliero reppresent the committement of the Viberti family to work with some of the top Barolo parcels storically farmed by the same families since generations.

The golden cap identify the wines produced from grapes purchased in storical parcels farmed by their storical owners. While the red cap are the Viberti estate bottled Barolos

Aromas of cherries, sweet berries and plums introduce Bouley's 2022 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate with a sweet core of fruit, powdery tannins and an expansive finish. The 2020 Barbaresco Cottá is a powerful, dense wine that shows the natural richness of this site, but tempered by the restrained style that runs through all these wines. Succulent red cherry, red plum, blood orange, spice. There's gorgeous depth here. (93) ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

From the part of this climat classified in premier cru, where the vines are also older and the soils shallower, Rapet's 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fourneaux exhibits aromas of dark berries, cherries, orange zest and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety palate that's suave and lively. The same name but not the same soil, very stony here. A fine fresh mid purple. Altogether finer than the village wine with a racy quality through the middle of the raspberry fruit, the limestone seems much closer here. Medium length in the classy finish. JASPER MORRIS MW
