The 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Fourneaux is pretty and charming, offering up notes of raspberries, plums, spices and orange zest. Medium-bodied, supple and fine-boned, it won't require much cellaring. WILLIAM KELLEY

A notably earthier nose combines notes of red currant, dark pinot and a whiff of the sauvage. There is markedly better volume to the delicious and more complex medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a moderately rustic and more structured finale. Corton hillside. The older vines on these parcels were planted between 1926 and 1960. The estate's holdings are located on a clayey limestone soil, overlying dark brown marls.This wine offers a deep ruby red colour. Its bouquet permeates fresh berries (blackcurrant and raspberry). Wildly exotic, the 2022 Pinot Noir Mt. Jefferson Cuvée captivates with its seductive blend of dried flowers, incense, rosemary and dried strawberries. The 2022 Pinot Noir Jessie Vineyard Mt. Jefferson Cuvee is gorgeous out of the gate, offering a floral and fresh profile revealing notes of incense and ripe wild raspberries. Carteria is a single vineyard that sits at around 550 metres in the western part of the municipality of Teglio. At this higher level the vineyards sit in a cooler pocket and the vines produce fruit and grape juice that is tighter and nervier and showing more primary rock mineral character. Winemaking involves fermentation in stainless steel and aging for 12 months in 30hl and 500ltr old oak barrels and then a further aging in bottle of 24 months. Carteria has been made as a Riserva (min 3 years of aging) since 2013.

The wine is intensely concentrated with floral hints of rose and cool spice with a fruit profile that shows hints of darker fruits in addition to red. Tannins are finer and more elegant than you would expect from one of the warmer years on record. Overall, the wine is powerful, savoury and earthy with many years ahead of it to unfurl.

Clouet's rose epitomises elegance and focus, while flamboyantly celebrating the generous red cherry, strawberry, watermelon and pink pepper fruit of Bouzy.  It encapsulates that wonderful talent of pinot noir to build and rise on the finish, all the while retaining graceful precision as delicate as rose petal perfume.  Structure is fine and elegant, driven both by chalk minerality of the village and a very finely executed tannin presence.  It finishes with great length and poise of exquisite red cherry fruit.  A pristine and enticingly priced rose. The NV Brut Rosé No 3 Grand Cru is a pure Bouzy Pinot Noir that gets its beautiful intense onion-skin color from the addition of 8% red wine. The nose is rich and complex but at the same time pure and refined, with a nice chalky layer and vinous fruit intensity. Round and rich but fresh and vital on the pure and elegant palate, this is a full-bodied, pretty intense and persistent rosé to be served with main courses. Wow, what a lovely aroma of raspberry and dark cherry fruit laid over a faintly stoney backbeat and gorgeous blue florals of violets. The palate is full and ripe but nuanced and full of energy. Intensity of flavour without heft. I love the limestone drying quality in this wine and the mouth aromas that mark it as a Volnay through and through. Ripe aromas of both red and dark berry fruit enjoy pretty floral top notes. There is again very good energy to the solidly dense and voluminous flavors that are at once generous yet grippy and rustic on the firm finish. While better balanced than the St. Romain, I suspect that this will always have a bit of a tannic edge to it. BURGHOUND

Extremely perfumed with a pretty ripeness and clarity, offering plums and al-dente strawberries. Some cantaloupe, too. It's medium- to full-bodied with juicy fruit that's lovely and open. You want to drink it now. And do. Crunchy yet velvety and caressing in the mouth-feel from the lovely, open tannins. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. The 2020 Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir is restrained on the nose, with an earthy (i.e., of the earth, gray rocks, etc.) countenance that I find highly engaging. In the mouth, the fruit comes alive with cherry and cranberry, pomegranate pearls, graphite and pencil lead, layers of black tea, coal dust and brine. This is dark without being heavy or dense, and it’s very fine. The silty tannins linger through the finish and seem to settle on the palate, which is pleasurable. The 2020 Barolo San Giovanni is fabulous. In fact, the 2020 is one of the best editions I can remember tasting. Dark cherry, cedar, new leather, incense, mocha and dried herbs all open in the glass. The 2020 is rich and deep, but with greater finesse than in the past. Intense savory, balsamic and mineral notes resonate on the super-classic finish. A gorgeously bright and savoury Pinot Noir from this 24-ha parcel in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA is done at 50% whole cluster. It's got pretty aromatics of savoury dried herbs, fresh mint, evergreen tips and early-season strawberries. The palate flashes a real depth of fruit with rich brambleberries, brightened by pine sap, smoked sea salt and sumac notes. It has powerful, broody scents of red and black cherries, iron, mushroom powder and violet. From a hillside vineyard, Clay Court is on top of Parrett Mountain comes a beautifully balanced Pinot Noir. The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills has a medium ruby color and pretty scents of cinnamon stick, aniseed, iron, underbrush and charcuterie with a core of red cherries and cranberries. Medium-bodied yet very concentrated, it has a powdery frame, sparks of refreshing acidity and a very long, graphite-driven finish. This is impeccably composed and seductively expressed, showing dark cherry, clove, thyme and cedar characters on the nose with a gorgeous floral overtone. The 2021 Pinot Noir definitely reflects vintage. Its good colour and abundance of gravelly tannins display the smaller berried, smaller vintage. Its bright fruit, intense concentration and plentiful acidity accompany primary red fruit flavour, with an impressive show of ample black tea leaf-like tannins. The 2021 Pinot Noir is vibrant on the nose and totally precise and focused. The acid spools right from the front of the palate and has a mobile, agile way about it. The season may have had it's challenges, but the wine is effortless, natural and shapely. It's great. The 40% whole bunch here sits well within the red fruit and creates a capacious mid-palate without an impact of stalky flavour. Superb. A real pleasure to drink. ERIN LARKIN, Wine Advocate

Discreet but not invisible wood frames ripe but reasonably fresh aromas of various dark berries, pretty floral nuances and Savigny style earth. The succulent, palate coating and energetic middle weight flavors conclude in a dusty, youthfully austere and nicely persistent finale. BURGHOUND

Love this wine. Has the early supple appeal of Savigny but it's not simple. Red fruits, brown spice and lingering florals plus a dusting of background wood characterise the nose. The palate is immediately red fruited and eveloping with a supple texture that again has some drying limestone dusty quality. It's easier than the Nuits and a more immediate proposition but it will stand cellaring for at least 5-8 years. MICHAEL MCNAMARA, PWS

Our top New Zealand wine of 2022 is the Ata Rangi Pinot Noir Martinborough 2020. It is textural, deep and seamlessly balanced, as well as supremely perfumed and vibrant. Made from the estate's oldest parcels planted 42 years ago, it demonstrates the power of pinot noir coming out of Martinborough. (98) JAMES SUCKLING

The big one, made from 39 year-old Abel clone vines. Doesn't sound like much but in New Zealand terms this spans the country's development as a serious, wine-producing nation. Very aromatic, but into the spectrum of dried herbs, chamomile, and cedar box. An impressive, very plush, palate - big, with an incredible "structure" on the finish: it's expansive and velvety but it ends, running on with the acid and the fine, fine tannin. An umami, lush, structured, beautiful wine. (98) OLLY STYLES

The 2020 Pinot Noir reminds me of walking into a cathedral - that quiet, cool hush that falls as you walk through its doors. This is harmonious, supple, unshowy and unforced. Hailing from old vines and delicately textured despite the abundance of fruit concentration. Refined tannins with the finest of gravelly textures, akin to licking a stone. Scented yet restrained, with a fragrance of sweet red fruit, tea leaf and cedar spices with persistent acidity that carries it. Very complete and already approachable. (96) REBECCA GIBB MW
