The 2022 Pinot Noir Jessie Vineyard Mt. Jefferson Cuvee is gorgeous out of the gate, offering a floral and fresh profile revealing notes of incense and ripe wild raspberries. Medium-bodied and elegant but structured, it has a mouth-filling, rich texture, with ripe tannins and great energy. The acidity is even and ripe, but there's still vibrant energy to it. JEB DUNNUCK

Clouet's rose epitomises elegance and focus, while flamboyantly celebrating the generous red cherry, strawberry, watermelon and pink pepper fruit of Bouzy.  It encapsulates that wonderful talent of pinot noir to build and rise on the finish, all the while retaining graceful precision as delicate as rose petal perfume.  Structure is fine and elegant, driven both by chalk minerality of the village and a very finely executed tannin presence.  It finishes with great length and poise of exquisite red cherry fruit.  A pristine and enticingly priced rose. The NV Brut Rosé No 3 Grand Cru is a pure Bouzy Pinot Noir that gets its beautiful intense onion-skin color from the addition of 8% red wine. The nose is rich and complex but at the same time pure and refined, with a nice chalky layer and vinous fruit intensity. Round and rich but fresh and vital on the pure and elegant palate, this is a full-bodied, pretty intense and persistent rosé to be served with main courses. Wow, what a lovely aroma of raspberry and dark cherry fruit laid over a faintly stoney backbeat and gorgeous blue florals of violets. The palate is full and ripe but nuanced and full of energy. Intensity of flavour without heft. I love the limestone drying quality in this wine and the mouth aromas that mark it as a Volnay through and through. Ripe aromas of both red and dark berry fruit enjoy pretty floral top notes. There is again very good energy to the solidly dense and voluminous flavors that are at once generous yet grippy and rustic on the firm finish. While better balanced than the St. Romain, I suspect that this will always have a bit of a tannic edge to it. BURGHOUND

Extremely perfumed with a pretty ripeness and clarity, offering plums and al-dente strawberries. Some cantaloupe, too. It's medium- to full-bodied with juicy fruit that's lovely and open. You want to drink it now. And do. Crunchy yet velvety and caressing in the mouth-feel from the lovely, open tannins. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. The 2020 Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir is restrained on the nose, with an earthy (i.e., of the earth, gray rocks, etc.) countenance that I find highly engaging. In the mouth, the fruit comes alive with cherry and cranberry, pomegranate pearls, graphite and pencil lead, layers of black tea, coal dust and brine. This is dark without being heavy or dense, and it’s very fine. The silty tannins linger through the finish and seem to settle on the palate, which is pleasurable. A gorgeously bright and savoury Pinot Noir from this 24-ha parcel in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA is done at 50% whole cluster. It's got pretty aromatics of savoury dried herbs, fresh mint, evergreen tips and early-season strawberries. The palate flashes a real depth of fruit with rich brambleberries, brightened by pine sap, smoked sea salt and sumac notes. A delicious coming together of the wine's rich fruit and mineral complexity. CLIVE PURSEHOUSE, Decanter

The 2022 Pinot Noir Goodrich comes from marine sedimentary soils and was crafted with around 40% whole clusters. It has powerful, broody scents of red and black cherries, iron, mushroom powder and violet. Deliciously ripe, the Mount Richmond site is secluded, sitting at the western end of the Willamette Valley with south-east-facing slopes. It's generously aromatic with Christmas spice and clove that lead to black and red berry fruits. From a hillside vineyard, Clay Court is on top of Parrett Mountain comes a beautifully balanced Pinot Noir. Ruby red-hued with great floral elegance, showy notes of dusty red berries, and a gravelly minerality. The palate is fleshy, red-fruited and delicious; a squeeze of blood orange brightens the affair; it's followed on by tart cranberries, green tea leaves and an array of savoury dried herbs, finishing with tart cherries and a hint of minerality. The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills has a medium ruby color and pretty scents of cinnamon stick, aniseed, iron, underbrush and charcuterie with a core of red cherries and cranberries. Medium-bodied yet very concentrated, it has a powdery frame, sparks of refreshing acidity and a very long, graphite-driven finish. This is impeccably composed and seductively expressed, showing dark cherry, clove, thyme and cedar characters on the nose with a gorgeous floral overtone. The 2021 Pinot Noir definitely reflects vintage. Its good colour and abundance of gravelly tannins display the smaller berried, smaller vintage. Its bright fruit, intense concentration and plentiful acidity accompany primary red fruit flavour, with an impressive show of ample black tea leaf-like tannins. Lively and vibrant red fruits of wild strawberries and red cherries followed by rose hips, ground spices and a touch of citrus zest. Medium-bodied, finely grained velvety tannins with a delightful acid backbone. Zesty and layered wine with beautiful balance and complexity. It's already enjoyable but will age gracefully. The 2021 Pinot Noir is vibrant on the nose and totally precise and focused. The acid spools right from the front of the palate and has a mobile, agile way about it. The season may have had it's challenges, but the wine is effortless, natural and shapely. It's great. The 40% whole bunch here sits well within the red fruit and creates a capacious mid-palate without an impact of stalky flavour. Superb. A real pleasure to drink. ERIN LARKIN, Wine Advocate

Discreet but not invisible wood frames ripe but reasonably fresh aromas of various dark berries, pretty floral nuances and Savigny style earth. The succulent, palate coating and energetic middle weight flavors conclude in a dusty, youthfully austere and nicely persistent finale. BURGHOUND

Cask sample. Deep purplish crimson. Intensely aromatic. Elderberry notes. Juicy fruit dominates the light structure. Pleasing and relatively early developed. JANCIS ROBINSON

Love this wine. Has the early supple appeal of Savigny but it's not simple. Red fruits, brown spice and lingering florals plus a dusting of background wood characterise the nose. The palate is immediately red fruited and eveloping with a supple texture that again has some drying limestone dusty quality. It's easier than the Nuits and a more immediate proposition but it will stand cellaring for at least 5-8 years. MICHAEL MCNAMARA, PWS

Our top New Zealand wine of 2022 is the Ata Rangi Pinot Noir Martinborough 2020. It is textural, deep and seamlessly balanced, as well as supremely perfumed and vibrant. Made from the estate's oldest parcels planted 42 years ago, it demonstrates the power of pinot noir coming out of Martinborough. (98) JAMES SUCKLING

The big one, made from 39 year-old Abel clone vines. Doesn't sound like much but in New Zealand terms this spans the country's development as a serious, wine-producing nation. Very aromatic, but into the spectrum of dried herbs, chamomile, and cedar box. An impressive, very plush, palate - big, with an incredible "structure" on the finish: it's expansive and velvety but it ends, running on with the acid and the fine, fine tannin. An umami, lush, structured, beautiful wine. (98) OLLY STYLES

The 2020 Pinot Noir reminds me of walking into a cathedral - that quiet, cool hush that falls as you walk through its doors. This is harmonious, supple, unshowy and unforced. Hailing from old vines and delicately textured despite the abundance of fruit concentration. Refined tannins with the finest of gravelly textures, akin to licking a stone. Scented yet restrained, with a fragrance of sweet red fruit, tea leaf and cedar spices with persistent acidity that carries it. Very complete and already approachable. (96) REBECCA GIBB MW

A very Nuits like nose offers up notes of forest floor, the savage, purple fruit and an herbal tea top note. There is excellent intensity and precision to the solidly voluminous medium bodied flavors that conclude in a robust, rustic and powerful finish. This too could use more depth, but it has the stuffing to develop it. BURGHOUND

A fresh and airy nose is comprised by notes of red and dark berries along with plenty of newly turned earth character. The caressing, delicious and vibrant flavors possess very good volume before terminating in a mildly austere and sneaky long finish. This too possesses fine development potential and overall, it is a Volnay villages to consider.  BURGHOUND

Aromas of cherries, sweet berries and plums introduce Bouley's 2022 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate with a sweet core of fruit, powdery tannins and an expansive finish. From the part of this climat classified in premier cru, where the vines are also older and the soils shallower, Rapet's 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fourneaux exhibits aromas of dark berries, cherries, orange zest and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety palate that's suave and lively. The same name but not the same soil, very stony here. A fine fresh mid purple. Altogether finer than the village wine with a racy quality through the middle of the raspberry fruit, the limestone seems much closer here. Medium length in the classy finish. JASPER MORRIS MW

The 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses 1er Cru has a notably perfumed bouquet with redcurrant and raspberry fruit, wild heather and touches of potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied and very harmonious, with a fine bead of acidity and a degree of precision on the finish that does the appellation proud. Quality winemaking here—this comes highly recommended. NEAL MARTIN

A little iron in the soil here. North-east of the appellation, near Clos Myglands and La Framboisière. Plain south-facing, the soil a little red from the iron.
Ooh - now that's a beauty - a more sophisticated width of complex and attractive flavour. In the mouth - fresh and energetic - really complex - a little more blocky from the tannin today - this will also benefit from your patience but the finishing flavour, working its way through the tannin is completely delicious. Really a personality here. Very good but with much potential to improve. BILL NANSON

Certified biodynamic. Light to mid crimson. Smells of little wild cherries, open and expressive. Firm and chewy texture holds all this lovely fruit in shape. Complete, satisfying and full in the mouth yet still very fresh. Needs time. JULIA HARDING

A notably more floral-suffused nose features distinctly earthy and ripe aromas of various dark berries, especially cherry, along with hints of kirsch and the sauvage. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the beautifully textured, if not particularly dense, medium-bodied flavors that exhibit moderate warmth and rusticity.
