This little beauty is crafted by Potel's partner in crime Stephane Aviron who brings his consdiderable talents to the table. there is an elegance and purity to the wine with underlying terroir drive that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who tried Nicola or Stephane's wines.
Wafts of raspberries, black plums and sweet spices lure you in. The core is a vibrant and buoyant mass of black and red berries, wrapped in an elegant framework. Delas Cote du Rhone 2022 375mlA serious Cotes-du-Rhone. Full forest berry fruit with delicate spice, bitter chocolate and licorice notes. Impressive depth and some real structure on the full-bodied palate. I love the way the generous, rather fine tannins carry the long, spicy and fresh finish. Paisley Wines Boombox Shiraz 2021If you’re old enough, you’d remember making mix tapes to give to friends or slip into the cassette player in your car, or whatever. My tape of choice, if I was feeling flush was a TDK SA-X (chrome), or even an MA-X (metal setting), and if poor, maybe a TDK AD or a lowly D. All very nice. But thank heavens for Spotify.
A big juicy dark hit of flavour here, along with raspberry juice, mint, a bit of earthy coal-like stuff, some chewy chalk-like grip, and a warm and generous finish of good length. Delas Cote du Rhone Saint Esprit 2021One of our favourite rhone reds year-in and year-out. There may be nothing quite as satisfying as a good value Rhone red and this one always delivers. Delas Freres is based in the beautiful northern Rhone with a large holding of their own vineyards supplemented by long-term relationships with quality growers all over the rhone. How they manage to put so much goodness into a bottle at this price is an astonishing feat to say the least.
While this indulgent red reflects the north’s regional dominance of Shiraz over Grenache, it reflects the darker fruits and a spicy earthiness often found in the southern Rhone, where this wine hails from. Silky rather than heavy, it still feels concentrated with bright, bubbly raspberry fruits complimented by a little dollop of wild, blackberry fruit. A waft of violets and pastille fruit just add to its appeal.

First Drop Mothers Milk Shiraz 20212021 was a fine vintage in the Barossa. There is no doubt that this wine will improve but damn it's delicious now. Deep plum and cherry fruits, plenty of spicy depth with hints of licorice, dark chocolate and earth. This is really good Barossa shiraz. It has all that Barossa charm with satsuma plumb, sweet blackberry conserve and hints of maraschino cherry too, while staying vibrant and lifted. Tomfoolery Young Blood Shiraz 2023Inspired by the new wave ‘Vino Joven’ wines of the old world, Young Blood Shiraz is released as a cheeky youngster with just a brief barrel maturation to showcase structure and varietal character, while retaining freshness and finesse. The fruit is open fermented utilising native yeasts, with 30% whole bunch in the mix. After 7 days maceration post-ferment, the wine is gently basket pressed and racked to stainless vats (50%) and old French oak hogsheads (50%) for 6 months maturation. Young Blood Shiraz is pure, uncomplicated enjoyment.
Deep ruby colour with the vibrant pink rim of a fresh young wine. Spicy bramble and black cherry nose with fresh raspberry top notes. Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2020Rive Droite Rive Gauche simply means right bank, left bank and the name derives from fruit for the wine being sourced from both sides of the river - the grenache coming mainly from the left (gauche) and the Syrah from the village of Daumazan (on the rive droite), near Tavel. It is also a French film starring the rotund wine-nut actor Gerard Depardieu - fun fact!This is a lovely fresh and crunchy styled Rhone from our friends at Rive Droite. There is touch of thyme and bay over red spiced fruits, layered with a little bit of red liquorice. This is a medium bodied rendition with a pure core of raspberry, wild strawberry and splash of black berry fruit in the mix. Its lithe with a lovely fresh cut to the sweet fruits that makes this look wonderfully elegant and damn easy to like.

Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2021Savoury tannins and ripe black cherries with a note of liquorice prevail in this blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre and the ABV is relatively high, but the wine has balance with a fresh, lifted finish. I'd decant this for lamb chops spiked with rosemary and garlic slices, barbecued if the weather allows. Its name tells us the grapes were sourced from both banks of the Rhône River. Nick Spencer Gundagai Light Dry Red Blend 2021No, this is not just another "Light Dry Red" playing to the recent fads but a serious nod to the 'Burgundies' of the 50's 60's and 70's which Nick Spencer is paying homage to. These were classic light-bodied Shiraz and Shiraz/ Pinot blends that emerged from the Hunter and are highly sort after now. They are back in fashion and tasting this it's not hard to understand why.
The style can be a little hit or miss and getting that combo of pinot and shiraz just right is critical, which Nick has done a brilliant job of here. A touch of sour cherry, cranberry and strawberries that plays off broodier black currant and blackberry fruit swirling around in the background. It's served on a palate that is crunchy and vibrant with lovely fine structure and soft melting tannins. Great poise between the fruit and other elements and while this is wonderfully easy to enjoy there is a plenty going on here that belies the seriousness of the wine.
While its ready to go now and easy to love if you put a couple of bottles away for just a couple of years or so I think you would be a very happy camper!

Beyond the Pines “Viceroy” Syrah 2021This is the 2nd release of the 'Viceroy' Syrah for young winemaker Matt Keoghan who has worked extensively locally and abroad to try and hone in his craft from places such as Hermitage, Barolo and ChateauNeuf Du Pape.
The vineyard from which these wines are made from are on the GI border of Mclarenvale (Clarendon) and Adelaide Hills from the Wind River Vineyard which is family owned and farmed. The soils are Buck Shot ironstones and quartz through Sandy loams on a light orange and red clay base. This leads to leaner alcohol wine and some slight reduction but almost pithy tannin and slurpee acidity.
The wines are more savoury than what is usually seen from the Adelaide Hills with great structural framing around a blue/black fruited palate. The lift from the hallmark whole bunch kiss, an almost mineral fresh finish, this wine is really letting the fruit speak rather than the winemaking, with elevage in neutral Hogs Heads and all Natural fermentation and minimal sulphur added prior to bottling.

Sven Joschke ‘V.S.V.P’ Fortified Syrah 2022Taking a little inspiration from our Portuguese friends, here’s our Barossa Vintage P@rt. A.K.A Very.Special.Vintage.P@ort . Early picked Syrah spread over three nally bins, foot stomped twice a day to extract maximum colour and tannin. Whilst we didn’t adopt the tradtional lagar approach, Motely Crue accompanied us on this stomping journey. Aged Brandy Spirit added at a mild baume of 3 arrested the ferment at 52gms residual. Must was immediately pressed to tank, settled and bottled shortly after with zero fining or filtration and no oak. Made from 100% Malbec including fruit grown by local producers that Pascal consults to. About 70% is lighter and finer material from the limestone plateau (the causses) and 30% richer and denser fruit from the iron-rich gravelly terraces of the Lot River valley. The vines average 25-30 years and about 85% of the fruit is currently certified organic, with one grower at year 2 in conversion.
Fermented for a total of 20 days, with regular punch-downs for the first 3 or 4 days only.
