Casa Rojo Ribera del Duero Clon 98 2020100% Tinto Fino, from the area of Castrillo de la Vega, located at an average altitude of 800 meters, in the province of Burgos. The grapes come from old vineyards between 26 and 50 years old, all owned by viticulturists in the area. Fermented and aged (12 months) in concrete tanks.
Heading towards a more black fruit profile with a black currant, creme de mure thing going on and a hint bitcumen and turned earth. Mid-weight in style with nice concentration and push from the darker fruit profile. It delivers plenty of concentrated fruit but does it all with bounce and vibrancy at the same time.

Benanti Etna Bianco 2023Etna in north-east Sicily is better known for its reds than whites, but the best examples of the latter, made from the local grape Carricante, can be spectacular, somewhere between a Burgundian Aligoté and a top Soave in style. This is totally unoaked, but draws richness from six months of lees' ageing. Stony and intense, with notes of lime, fennel and lemon juice, steely, palate-cleansing acidity and a mineral tang. Best drunk with the Mediterranean sun on your face, but it'll cheer you up in winter too. TIM ATKIN MW
Benantis Etna Bianco from 100% Carricante is a delicately perfumed expression of Carricante with gentle mineral notes, white flowers and light flavours of peach or nectarine. The true protagonist, however, are the carefully dosed volcanic tones of ash and smoke. The bouquet will become even more refined with a year or more of ageing in the bottle. Sierra de Tolono La Dula Rioja Garnacha 2022I've always had a soft spot for her Garnacha, and the 2021 La Dula, with its floral, perfumed and expressive nose could be the finest vintage of this wine. It was produced with grapes from small ancient plots in Rivas de Tereso and matured in amphora and foudre for eight months. It's open, showy and terribly elegant, super young and fruit-driven, reminiscent of fresh grapes, not terribly complex but very pleasant and easy to drink. It has a medium-bodied palate with 13.5% alcohol and a serious and chalky texture. It should develop more complexity with time in bottle. 6,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2024. It's nutty and has notes of peach skin, aromatic, and it's velvety and warm, with notes of oak, spicy and smoky, with balance and elegance. This is a recent bottling, but there are no clues about it on the labels; but they mention En Rama, bottled unfiltered. Dark Matter Spiced Rum (700ml)This is far from your average Rum. Firstly, it is Scotland's first and only Rum, made in a purpose built distillery in Banchory, between the Cairngorms and Aberdeen. Two brothers, Jim and John Ewan are behind the project and brought in Cory Mason - ex-Rum distiller at New York State's Berkshire Mountain Distillers (to name one of his many exploits) - to help them set things up. The result is a remarkable spiced rum made with only the finest, fresh ingredients and an attention to detail that the big boys can only dream about.
Dark Matter's infusion takes in a swathe of hand sliced fresh ginger, fresh green peppercorns (plucked by hand from their stalks), hand crushed, allspice berries, and Indian long pepper (a close relative of black pepper with a similar but spicier personality). Finally, to impart the ideal balance of sweet and spice, 60 g/l molasses is added. It is from this latter addition, and the spice infusion, Dark Matter takes its colour - no caramel colour is added. The quality and freshness of the ingredients creates a huge whack of intense ginger and spice and the class of the molasses creates a texture and a class that is unique in this style of rum, in our experience.
