A splash of malbec makes its way into this wine. The palate rolls similarly, supple and bright in texture, medium to fuller weight but lively and energetic with each mouthful. They've succeeded in producing a range that is emblematic of the best of what the region has to offer and packaged it up with some of the besta value coming out of the region.
Unbelievable value again this year. A bit of white pepper and sour cherry fruit that opens into a slight darker fruit profile in the glass. Same goes on the palate with a little more dark plumb and morello cherry here than in other years. Plushly fruited but all held together with nice savoury tannins and a splash of leathery spice.

Cherry, almond, aniseed, a smattering of dried herbs, maybe lavender. It’s medium-bodied, kind of juicy, kind of savoury, there’s some strawberry in with cherry, some grainy grip to tannin, slightly ferrous, gently bitter with amaro, and the finish is fresh and pretty long. It’s maybe a little more crunchy and herbal than some vintages, and yet, it still lays on the charm. Nice. I do like a wine that doesn’t try too hard to be anything other than a great drink. It’s pushing into full-bodied, but gee, there’s a rich swell of dark fruit here, and it’s also kind of ferrous/earthy, but fresh and vibrant with it, some dried raspberry, firm and grainy tactile tannin grip, sporting excellent length, and there’s maybe a bit of iodine to close. Le Cinciole Cinciorosso 2020From the fanatical attention to his biodynamic principals (which pre-date most in the area) to his commitment to all things sustainable - a solar farm here, a passive house there. He doesn't offer any of this information with bombastic bluster, he and his partner Valeria Vigano, mention them in passing with understatement and humility. All this is starting to get me itchy to taste the wines because, there's lots of sustainably run estates in the world these days who make mediocre juice, so I'm hoping Le Cinciole the excitement from the vineyard translates to the wines. They certainly do, they are brilliant!!
Sangiovese (70%), Merlot and Syrah. Ripe, crunchy fruit, red currants a touch of black cherry, red plums and a little white pepper spice sprinkled throughout. Lush fruits lead you in with their sweet embrace while the whole thing stays super fresh. Soft, supple tannins add real interest and give it a lovely backbone. 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino. Temperature controlled (maximum 26° C) cofermentation in open tanks with selected indigenous yeasts takes place over 20 days. Aged for 12 months, primarily in cement vats with a small proportion in old oak casks. I think you could say that this wine really displays the freshness and brightness of the estate’s northerly site while offering genuine Classico depth an character. Cherry, blueberry and raspberry fruit is prominent on the bouquet, with a touch of floral perfume in the background. Very lively on the palate, the redfruited flavours are well balanced with the silky but persistent and lingering tannin astringency. Very good drinking now, but a little more bottle age will definitely add some extra depth and dimension. Currently one of my favourites in the portfolio

Both Gioia and Filippo feel this northern section of the Colli Senesi DOCG far outshines the two southern sections as far as depth and intensity of flavour and structure are concerned. This wine is medium to dark in colour, with a fresh bouquet of spicy plums and violets. Y.amirault Amirault Bourgueil Cote 50 2022The old La Coudraye, which changed to La Côte back in the 2018 vintage to reflect the variety of origins for the fruit. This is a sample drawn before bottling. A vibrant hue in the glass, and a beautifully pure and eager nose of black cherry, blackcurrant and damson fruits. The palate remains true to the nose, with that same sense of purity and an underbelly of soft chalk, before a sappy cherry-skin character at the end. Modestly extracted tannins, firm but not over done, with nice acidity for this warmer vintage, this should evolve nicely for some years, but should be ready to go within a year or two. Te Mata Awatea Cabernet Merlot 2022Here’s we have 44% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 14% Cabernet Franc. I asked which Merlot clone they have in the ground at Te Mata, and it’s Entav, which is one of the better ones.
Boysenberry, dusty spice, floral aromatics, tobacco, leaf and mint. Medium-bodied, powdery tannin, very ‘mineral’ acidity, bright but sitting in the wine well, raspberry and plum, complex and chalky firm on a long finish, a little seaweed in the mix. Crisp.
