Marsilea Premier Bobal 2018A family-owned winery and cellar; 60 hectares of vineyards around the small village of Sinarcas, on an 800-metre high plateau inland from Valencia and close to the border with Castilla-La Mancha, surrounded by a pine forest. Sebastian Mancebo makes terrific organic wines mostly from native Bobal, alongside alternatives like Gewürztraminer.
Vines are typically more than 40 years old and planted at altitudes of 900 meters. The grapes are hand-sorted before the fermentation and the partially crushed grapes are then subjected to low temperature for the extraction of primary, fruit aromas. The fermentation is done at low temperatures (18ºC) in temperature with no oak.
A brilliant cherry-red colour, of medium intensity and purplish highlights. It has a bouquet of wild flowers and a salty minerality, typical of the regions' soils. Forceful yet velvety on the palate. Fruity with notes of blackberries, it hides a slight bitterness that balances the fruit, with a persistent and long finish. PWS

Greenstone Heathcote Gusto Rose 2021These days, it’s getting quite hard for me to read white font on peach coloured background. I don’t wear glasses mind you, so that may be the problem.

This sparkling is just the thing to keep on hand for one of those unexpected celebrations. The Brut Etoile is produced much like Champagne, and spends a year of its life aging in the winery's 15 km of underground tunnels which are the remains of an ancient stone quarry. Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay 2024Juicy white fruit, grapefruit, aniseed, a little struck match, almond paste, cinnamon and clove spice. It’s packed with flavour, white nectarine and nutty spicy characters, a flinty grip to texture, quite some intensity and power here, and in some respects it seems more Beechworth than Yarra, or so I think. Pear and citrus, lime rind, with excellent length of flavour. It’s elemental as at now, and a little raw, though I reckon it will deliver with a couple of years in bottle. It’s a cracking release. Holm Oak Protege Pinot Noir 2024like this style of pinot. Built for drinkin' not thinkin' and one which will take a chill in the fridge should the mercury dictate such an action. First Drop Mothers Milk Shiraz 20212021 was a fine vintage in the Barossa. There is no doubt that this wine will improve but damn it's delicious now. Deep plum and cherry fruits, plenty of spicy depth with hints of licorice, dark chocolate and earth. It’s been a while between milks here at TWF, the last one reviewed was the 2017.Dark cherry, blackberry and blueberry, kind of like a pie of those fruits, with a little spicy crust, and gentle tarry earthiness. This is really good Barossa shiraz. It has all that Barossa charm with satsuma plumb, sweet blackberry conserve and hints of maraschino cherry too, while staying vibrant and lifted. Plenty of depth and concentration on the pallet and it doesn't shy away from its origins but it does it deftly by remaining light on its feet, cut with fine tannin and that fans out gently into subtle, chocalaty, framing oak. Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2020Rive Droite Rive Gauche simply means right bank, left bank and the name derives from fruit for the wine being sourced from both sides of the river - the grenache coming mainly from the left (gauche) and the Syrah from the village of Daumazan (on the rive droite), near Tavel. It is also a French film starring the rotund wine-nut actor Gerard Depardieu - fun fact!This is a lovely fresh and crunchy styled Rhone from our friends at Rive Droite. There is touch of thyme and bay over red spiced fruits, layered with a little bit of red liquorice. This is a medium bodied rendition with a pure core of raspberry, wild strawberry and splash of black berry fruit in the mix. Its lithe with a lovely fresh cut to the sweet fruits that makes this look wonderfully elegant and damn easy to like.

That smoky things continues on the palate with combo of black and red forest fruits to the fore and a little garrigue like finish that close it out. Coriole Sangiovese 2023Always a very nice wine, and great value too.
Cherry, almond, aniseed, a smattering of dried herbs, maybe lavender. It’s medium-bodied, kind of juicy, kind of savoury, there’s some strawberry in with cherry, some grainy grip to tannin, slightly ferrous, gently bitter with amaro, and the finish is fresh and pretty long. It’s maybe a little more crunchy and herbal than some vintages, and yet, it still lays on the charm. Nice. I do like a wine that doesn’t try too hard to be anything other than a great drink. Toma Tinto Tempranillo Grenache 2021The Toma Tinto is made by the legends at Bodegas Nekeas. While they are kinda Garnacha experts they are also bloody good at making wine. So good that importer Will Dyer of La Carta wines asked them if they could make him something special just for the Aussie markers and something special they did.
So, they didn't break too far from what they know best with this 50/50 garnacha tempranillo blend and they delivered a thirst quenching, showstopping bbq stunner here. Incredibly the winery have sourced fruit from several high altitude vineyards in Navarra exposed to the cooling reaches of the Pyreneese mountains and breezes of the Atlantic ocean.
Black raspberry, bing cherry, some red licorice a little sweet spice and a menagerie of amaro like spices and herbs. There is a lovely waft of charry earth that sets of the sweet fruited nose and gives it real interest. A lovely combo dark, dry herbs, crushed berries and an earthy note that trails off on the close. Looks a good chunk more serious than the label might suggest. Great stuff

Silky fruit profile, packed with fruit, cut with some crunchy tannin too to keep it all humming along. We have stocked almost every vintage of this wine since it started coming into the country and there is a reason why... its delicious!
A 50/50 blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha grown on the north-facing slopes of Valdizarbe in DO Navarra. The two varieties are made separately with cold maceration for about 5 days, followed by at least 10 more at fermentation temperature, which never exceeds 28ºC. A bright 'Joven' style wine, Toma Tinto marries the cherry of Tempranillo and the purple vibrancy of Garnacha. Its aromatic profile is all about bell peppers, squishy red fruits and spice while the palate is rounded and succulent. Solis Cotes de Provence Rose 2023Solis Rose. This is the summer wine we have been waiting for. This is one of the best value Provence rose we have seen in some time and that is saying something given how much good pink is in the market at the moment.
This is pretty classic stuff in all the best ways. A touch of fresh strawberry, snappy red currants, white pepper, a touch of fairy-floss lift and oh-so-inviting sweetly floral nose. It follows with that same wild strawberry and red berry fruit all fleshy and bright with a rim of citrus peel and quartzy-like minerality edging. It punches way above its weight here and while it will go down a treat on a warms summers day its equally at home paired with any BBQ fair you might want to throw at it.

Santadi Vermentino Villa Solais 2023Cantina Santadi, from Sardinia’s southwestern coastal region known as Sulcis, was founded in 1960 as a cooperative of local growers. Under the guidance of Antonello Pilloni, Santadi has become one of Sardinia’s, and Italy’s, finest wineries, with more than 200 growers farming 600 hectares.
The Sulcis peninsula is, geographically, Sardinia’s most ancient area, rich in archaeological sites, and offers an astonishing palette of variations and contrasts, with coastal sand dunes, gentle hills and inlets, narrow strips of flatland and inland mountains, rugged cliffs overhanging the seas interspersed with silky-smooth white beaches, pine trees, junipers and vineyards. In these sandy soils, pre-phylloxera vines continue to survive and thrive.
Made with 10% Nuragus, another local variety, this spends a few months maturation on lees, in stainless steel, to give the wine an extra dimension of flavour and texture. Citrus notes and hints of tropical fruit, the palate is minerally and refreshing.

The vines are all biodynamically reared and the grapes hand-harvested. Imagine our surprise when he bought in a selection of wines made from his home turf in the beautiful surrounds of Adelaide.
These are deftly crafted wines that speak gently of place with an easy going attitude that belies their subtle complexity. They are crafted beautifully allowing wine making elements to blend seamlessly with pure fruits and wonderful balance. These really over-deliver in every way.
The 2023 Chardonnay, sourced from the Adelaide Hills region, is aged in 50% new oak for 9 months, then bottle aged for a similar length, this wine boasts bold butterscotch flavours, with notes of green apple to give the wine great balance. It's a lovely combo of old-school richness and modern freshness. That's not easy to pull off but they have done it here without losing any of the positives either style. Eric Bordelet Sydre Brut Tendre Apple Cider NVThe biodynamic orchards are comprised of trees upto 50+ years old containing 40-50 varieties of heirloom apples. The hand-harvested fruit is dehydrated for 4-5 weeks and simply ground and pressed then settled for clarification before fermenting naturally, originating in tank and finishing in bottle. Bubbles develop within two weeks of bottling. It has lovely aromatics of graham and baked apple, followed by elegant bubbles and an off-dry profile on the palate.
