Bright black cherries, leather, sappy garrigue, and peppery, sandalwood-like notes all shine in the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape, an impressively concentrated, medium-bodied, nicely structured 2023 that has good mid-palate density, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. This cuvée is based on 99% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Terret Noir, and Counoise from a mix of the La Crau, Cristia, Guigasse, Pointu, and Saint Georges lieux-dits, and it’s still resting all in concrete tanks.
