The G.D. Vajra 2022 Ravera this is another impressive effort for the family's 2022 Barolos. It opens with aromas recalling grilled herb, new leather, camphor and forest floor that on the full-bodied palate transform into dried cherry, raspberry tart, bitter orange and licorice. Notes of dried sage and thyme linger on the finish alongside firm, close-grained tannins that jump in and leave a good grip. Drink 2028-2034. KERIN O'KEEFE

Among the first of the bottled wines I tried from 2022, this Ravera surprised me with captivating fragrances that I didn't expect from the vintage. Wild strawberry, liquorice, porcini and forest roots infiltrate the nose. It is somewhat denser and fleshier than Bricco delle Viole, though certainly not rich. Tangy acidity harmonises with small woodland berries, and long, earthy tannins bolster the wine. There is wonderful purity of place and fruit, and to preserve freshness, all GD Vajra's Barolo saw slightly less time in barrel. MICHAELA MORRIS, decanter.com

Tea, hibiscus, orange rind, sandalwood and dried flowers. Really aromatic and absorbing. Medium-bodied, with a transparent, ethereal sense of fruit and a backbone of tannins that gives definition all the way to the end. Unique balance, from the famed vineyard in Novello.
