Shelter Winery, led by Hans-Bert Espe & Silke Wolf, is a small, hands-on operation in Baden, a region more commonly dominated by large co-ops. Organic farming just a few hectares, their focus is firmly on precision, vineyard detail and drinkability over power. Located just north of the Kaiserstuhl and influenced by the nearby Black Forest, they benefit from a cooler microclimate. Combined with limestone and loess soils (rather than the region's typical volcanic base), this delivers wines with lower alcohol, brighter acidity and more finesse.

Some may remember that we offered the 2022 a couple of years ago and we were absolutely stoked to be able to source German pinot that delivered such quliaty. They are often absurdly expensive so, looking at the recent release a sense of relief filled us because this looks like it has delivered once again.

Sour cherry, cranberry, mulberry, subtle smoke, light herbal edge. Bright red fruit, fine tannins, energetic acidity. There is a very linear pull to the wine that delivers pristine fruit fruit in a tension-driven, leans cool-climate style. There is peppery, mineral flourish on the finish that adds extra interest and complexity. Another great rendition here with plenty of drinkability.
