Aromas of ripe black plum, black-skinned berry and a whiff of violet lead the nose on this irresistibly delicious wine. On the soft, juicy palate, pliant tannins wrap around layers of fleshy black raspberry, succulent Marasca cherry, orange zest and a hint of baking spice. One bottle may not be enough. The 2016 Barbera d'Alba shows nice intensity, with dark fruit nuances, smoky layers and loosely knit texture. The alcohol content is 14%, and you feel that power. This Barbera would pair nicely with fatty foods such as salami or other cold cuts. MONICA LARNER, Wine Advocate
