Old-vine Grenache, made by Steve Pannell, what could possibly go wrong? As it turns out, nothing! Leading with a gorgeous aromatic of raspberry, thyme, a hint of lavender, maybe some licorice root and a backbeat of iron minerality. It glides onto the palate with sweet, pure berry fruit and purple flower mouth aromas. Texturally it's the fluidity and slippery quality that hits first before structure builds in the background, buffering the natural exuberance of fruit with composed tannins. It's a grenache that gives you the best of the variety's natural effusiveness but also dials in structure that elevates that whole package into something far more serious and ultimately more enjoyable. One of the best grenache's we've seen in some time. PWS
