The 2021 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga from Mauro Veglio is a stunner, starting with its enticing scents of rose, hay, botanical herb, camphor and forest berry. It's youthfully austere but backed up by great fruit, delivering flavors of succulent red cherry, cranberry, blood orange, sage and a hint of almond liqueur framed in firm, close-grained tannins. Vibrant acidity keeps it balanced and provides great racy tension while a hint of salty mineral lingers on the close. A gorgeous wine. (96) KERIN O'KEEFE

The 2021 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is once again is seriously impressive. Dark and ample on the palate, the 2021 captures all the brooding intensity of Serralunga in its dark fruit and imposing structure. Black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice are all dialed up to the maximum. What a gorgeous wine this is. The Serralunga Barolo is the hidden gem in this lineup. ANTONIO GALLONI

The Mauro Veglio 2021 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba (with 6,500 bottles made) shows the specific characteristics that are linked to this village. It is powerful, rich and vertical. The delivery is taut and firm, and you get dark fruits with grilled herb and a hint of something rusty or metallic. With 24 months of aging in 25-hectoliter casks, the wine is powerful, pushing from behind with firm, powdery tannins. MONICA LARNER
