This single-vineyard bottling comes from a small parcel that most impressively showcases the site's rocky, volcanic terroir and the elegant, minerally structure it's capable of.
Ripe, bright, and elegant fruit notes are nuanced with espresso bean and violets, all delivered with a tight, compact profile. The wine features crunchy apple-skin tannins and gorgeous blood orange acidity, framed by fine graphite and subtle hints of new cedarwood. Youthful and coiled, this wine holds great potential with time. Decant for a couple of hours if opened in its youth, but for those who wait eight years, it promises to astonish. For "Dead Fred," the wine is fermented in 25% new Taransaud barrels and second-year Stockinger foudres, then aged 20 months before bottling-a beautifully structured and age-worthy wine.
