  1. Handpicked Highbow Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Handpicked Highbow Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
This wine is from a single high-performing block that has had a number of excellent vintages over the past 15 years. It is a monoclonal wine of G9V3 Cabernet Sauvignon, an unfashionable clone in some circles, but in this vineyard, on this hill, a stunning example of the  variety. The fruit was hand harvest in late-March and yields were low but of excellent concentration and character. The must was fermented in static red fermenters and the wine was aged in French oak barriques, 40 per cent new, for 15 months.

This is a superbly elegant Cabernet wine. This special wine, our very first Highbow Hill Cabernet, has superb perfume and purity of fruit. It is an elegant Cabernet Sauvignon that will age well over 20 years, but is ready for theenthusiast now. GARY BALDWIN

  2. Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque 2013
Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque 2013

According to the Guigal's, the 2013 Cote Rotie La Turque has a similar level of dry extract to the 2010 (after that, the 2012, followed by the 2011). Inky purple in color, with masculine notes of crushed rock, cracked pepper, bacon fat, scorched earth and concentrated dark fruits, it has a stacked mid-palate, but is certainly holding things closer to the vest than either the 2011 or 2012. It has a classic style and I suspect will require a decade of cellaring to become approachable. (98) JEB DUNNUCK

  3. Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage 2013
Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage 2013
Disgorged with five grams per liter dosage, Moët's 2013 Extra Brut Grand Vintage is a real success, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, fresh bread, Meyer lemon, nougat and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, chiseled and fine-boned, with an enveloping core of bright, vibrant fruit and a pretty pinpoint mousse, it concludes with a precise, penetrating finish. Incisive but not austere, it's an impressive effort, reflecting good levels of maturity in this cool, late harvest. It's as fine a rendition of this cuvée as I can remember tasting. 4. Domaine Terrebrune Bandol Rose 2020
    Domaine Terrebrune Bandol Rose 2020

Limpid orange. Mineral-accented blood orange, strawberry, floral and succulent herb scents show fine definition and pick up a spicy nuance with air. Chewy and densely packed yet energetic and sharply focused on the palate, offering vibrant red berry, bitter cherry, citrus pith and honeysuckle flavors and a deeper peach pit flourish. The mineral and floral notes return on the very long, precise finish. JOSH RAYNOLDS, vinous.com

  5. Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin 2013
Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin 2013
The same can be said for the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin, as this insanely impressive barrel sample transcends the vintage. Full-bodied, decadent and layered, with massive concentration and purity, it’s loaded with black and blue fruits, violets, truffle, licorice and assorted floral notes. This cuvee always shows fabulous fruit in its youth, and it doesn’t start to gain its hallmark gaminess until after a few years in bottle. In addition, this cooler vintage, with its ample moisture and autumn summer, produced Mourvedre with off-the-charts aromatic purity and perfect ripeness. It will clearly be in the top 1-2 wines and will have 3-4 decades of longevity (100) JEB DUNNUCK, Wine Advocate

Extremely aromatic with blueberries, blackberries, and flowers. Full- bodied, dense, and rich yet agile and exciting. The tannins are seamless and beautiful. The finish shows stones and spices. The ancient mourvedre in the blend gives this wine elegance. Incredible depth. So drinkable now but goes on for minutes. Fantastic Hommage... (98) JAMES SUCKLING

  6. Yeringberg Shiraz 2013
    Yeringberg Shiraz 2013
It's a curious release/place this wine is in right now. Perfume is glorious, a true perfume that wafts with sweet fruit, clove and cardamom spice, faint briary notes, light mahogany. The palate however is strict, opposite to the vivacity of the perfume, and though sees good architecture from ribbons of fine tannin, reveals little aside a barely-there succulence of faint berry fruit meshed to lean twiggy oak flavour. The finish is grippy, and a touch coarse, then has a light lemony zing. Time mellows the wine, and there's potential for a wine of beauty in future, but it's in an awkward phase right now. 7. Quinta da Muradella Gorvia Blanco 2018
Quinta da Muradella Gorvia Blanco 2018
Vintages don't necessarily follow in chronological order here, so from the 2014 I tasted last year (which is just being released now!), we jump to the 2018 Gorvia Blanco. This plot had normal yields in 2018, as the development was quite early and the fruit setting was before the problems showed up. This is the first year that has a little Godello, as Mateo replaced the dead vines and regrafted some rows with Godello, so it has a very small percentage (perhaps 5%). This is sharp, austere, mineral and incredibly young, and it finishes with a clean, sharp and precise salty note. This follows the textural direction of the Fisterra, or the wine he bottled for Matador. This should develop in bottle for a long time. He thinks 2014 is starting to show well now, almost six years after the harvest. I think this wine can be enjoyed young, but it will improve and develop a lot in bottle. 8. Dom Perignon 2013
    Dom Perignon 2013
A driven and serious DP with aromas of chalk, biscuits, apricot stones and lemons. Some spice and dried flowers, too. So sleek and sophisticated. Elegant. Yet, it’s long and powerful, with a sharp minerality. Tight and precise. Reminds me of bottles from the 1980s, such as 1988. It really takes off. Disgorged October 2021. Drinkable on release in January 2023, but better in a couple of years. A DP for the cellar. JAMES SUCKLING

  9. Giuseppe Cortese Barbaresco Rabaja Riserva 2013
Giuseppe Cortese Barbaresco Rabaja Riserva 2013
Medium-bodied, but deep and sinewy, ripe cherry fruit, intense minerally tightly packed black tea tannin, and despite its darkness and backwards nature, has an alluring mouth-perfume and repressed juiciness throughout; a sure signpost to the direction it will take in the future. And it's long. A classic. 96 Points, GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

Readers should expect a muscular, full-throttle Barbaresco of breadth and pure power. A super classic wine in the making, the 2013 is captivating, even in the early going. 95+ Points ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

The Giuseppe Cortese Riserva is from 1ha of the oldest vines in Rabaja with an average age of 70 years and matured in 1,700L Slovanian oak for 40 months. The wines then spend a further 3 years in bottle prior to release. The first Rabaja Riserva was produced in 1996 and since then has been made in 1999, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2016 (released mid 2023).

  10. Trimbach Riesling Frederic Emile 2016 375ml
Trimbach Riesling Frederic Emile 2016 375ml
Luminous straw-yellow. Complex, mint-accented aromas of nectarine, tangerine and powdered stone, plus a hint of licorice. Then bright, juicy and dense, showing outstanding acid-sugar balance and a penetrating juiciness to the stone fruit and herbal flavors. Finishes multilayered and very long, displaying noteworthy clarity and limy cut on the saline finish. Wine lovers everywhere know just how great Frédéric Emile Rieslings can be, but this looks to be a real knockout in the making; I absolutely love this wine's mineral drive and precision. It pulls off the neat trick of being both very ageworthy and also lovely to drink right now. I was happy to know that my palate was still working after an extremely long day of tasting when I told Pierre that in this vintage of Frédéric Emile I found more of the Geisberg than the Osterberg (in most vintages, the wine is a blend of 60/40 Osterberg-Geisberg, at times even 70/30, but this year it's more like 55/45). (97+) IAN D'AGATA, Vinous Media

The lemon-sherbet note here is really beautiful. Then comes a wealth of herbs, ranging from thyme to parsley, with a touch of sea salt, before turning to more floral nuances, such as cherries and almond blossom. The powerful acidity seems to surround the whole mouth and makes this almost like licking a lemon; the unmistakable dryness is all the more enjoyable because of it. Long and very elegant on the finish. STUART PIGOTT

  11. David Duband Vosne Romanee 2013
    David Duband Vosne Romanee 2013

While this is also notably floral there is a much broader range of spice elements present on the elegant nose of raspberry, violet and pomegranate aromas. The suave, round and succulent medium weight flavors possess plenty of mid-palate stuffing before terminating in a rich if ever-so-mildly austere and firm finish that delivers excellent length for a villages level wine. Recommended. BURGHOUND

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée stands out for its distinctly stony minerality and vertical sense of structure. Cherry pit, smoke, tobacco, spice and cedar notes are pushed forward, with an extra kick of brightness from the cool growing season. The tannins and acidity are both quite present today, but the elements should fuse together as the wine completes its aging in barrel. Most of this fruit comes from Les Barreaux, which sits just above Cros Parantoux. ANTONIO GALLONI

Bereche & Fils Premier Cru Le Cran 2015
The 2015 Extra-Brut Le Cran is one of the stars in this range. The blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay works so well. Apricot, yellow flowers, tropical fruit, chamomile and spice are all amplified in this large-scaled, ample Champagne. There's a tropical, exuberant quality to the 2015 that is notable. Chardonnay was picked at 10.5% and the Pinot was a bit riper, at 10.8%. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous.com

The 2017 Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs Mailly Grand Cru is racy, exuberant and full of character. Intense Pinot notes scream out of the glass in this exotic yet beautifully balanced Champagne. Red berry fruit, spice, kirsch, mint, dried flowers and anise build effortlessly. The purity of the flavors is quite striking. This is a fabulous showing... Bereche & Fils Cramant Grand Cru 2017
The 2017 Extra-Brut Cramant Grand Cru is a rich, textured wine. Lemon confit, marzipan, spice and a whole range of tropical accents are dialed up in this exuberant, open-knit Champagne. This is an especially flamboyant style, but it works nicely. The mousse is especially fine, giving the Cramant a decidedly vinous feel. This is tremendous showing in a very hard year that was better in the Côtes des Blancs than in the Marne Valley, where rot was especially problematic. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. 15. Eminence 'Cute Brut' Zero Dosage Rose NV
Eminence 'Cute Brut' Zero Dosage Rose NV
The fruit for this was handpicked and gently whole bunch pressed, before being transferred to old French oak for fermentation. No yeast, enzyme or nutrient was added and the ferment was kept at around 15 degrees to preserve aromatics. After primary ferment, the barrels had a small sulphur addition before resting over winter on the yeast lees. 11 months later, we assembled a blend of 38% pinot noir (white base wine), 2% pinot noir red wine (for that lovely colour), 30% chardonnay and 30% pinot meunier. The chardonnay was a blend of vintages, but the pinots were 2019 base wine - so this wine must be labelled NV.  After fermenting again (creating the bubbles!) It was then aged on lees for 30 months before being disgorged with zero dosage.

Leo Buring Leonay Eden Valley Maturation Release Riesling 2017

One of the best Leonays for some years. Not every maker got the acidity right in this vintage, wonderful quality awaiting those who did, as you'll find here. Its lime leaf aromas and tinkling acidity are the marks of a wine with a great future. JAMES HALLIDAY

Enchantingly ripe on the nose with evolved aromas of ripe lemon, freshly struck match, tropical fruit and Oriental spice. Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline 2013

The 2013 Cote Rotie la Mouline plays beautifully in the vintage and should wind up being in the top handful of wines made that year. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it shows the higher acidity of the vintage, yet possesses terrific ripeness in its black fruits, vanilla bean, violets and black peppery-laced bouquet. As always, it incorporates a massive 11% Viognier and will spend a full four years in oak before bottling. (98) JEB DUNNUCK, The Wine Advocate

  18. Burklin Wolf Wachenheimer Riesling 2022
    Burklin Wolf Wachenheimer Riesling 2022
From downgraded premier crus and 80% vinified in large oak casks, the 2022 Wachenheim Riesling Trocken Village is clear and intense but also subtle on the distinctive nose and clearly characterized by the red sandstone soils. This Riesling trocken shows perfectly ripe, very noble and finely flinty fruit intermingled with laurel and celery aromas. Lush and refined on the palate, with lingering salinity and crystalline acidity, this is a very elegant, lush and balanced Wachenheimer with a fine and lively but rested character and a fine, saline finish. 12% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate

The nose blends flinty, reductive verve with apple juiciness before verging into lemony verve. The palate has the same juiciness, with a slight inflection of yeast on the plate, partly pithy, partly zesty, but very fresh. There's tension and creaminess simultaneously, bone-dry and properly mouth-watering. Lovely echo. (Bone-dry) ANNE KREBIEHL MW, Vinous

Benefiting from de-classification of several of Burklin-Wolf's most prestigious G.C. + P.C. vineyards including young vines from GC Goldbachel, this is a classic Pfalz Riesling with depth of flavor, aromatic spice and a soft, voluptuous dry finish. This is always one of the best value rieslings in the range and given its provenence a pretty sure bet.

  19. Yeringberg Shiraz 2014 Museum Release
    Yeringberg Shiraz 2014 Museum Release

Shiraz from one of Australia’s greatest estates.

You name it, it’s here. This is the antithesis of a simple red. Every time you sip you find something different. It runs with redcurrant but from there come breakouts of meat, violets, black pepper, jellied liquorice, stems and mint. Tannin is grunty, almost grainy, with cloves and peppers studded through. The texture generally is quite silken but the wine as a whole does not go quietly, as indeed it shouldn’t. Beyond a certain price point we want more than mere fruit; the brief is met here. Excellent wine. For the dinner table, we sail. 93+ points. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, The Wine Front

Quinta da Muradella Gorvia Blanco 2013

Limpid, yellow-gold. A highly complex, mineral-laced bouquet evokes fresh citrus and orchard fruits, chalky minerals, sweet butter and white flowers. A hint of anise emerges with air. Shows noteworthy depth and sharp delineation in the mouth, offering vibrant orange zest, pear nectar, buttered toast and succulent herb flavors that tighten up slowly on the back half. Powerful, yet graceful in character, displaying superb focus and mineral thrust on an impressively long finish that features lingering floral and orchard fruit flourishes. It has only 12.5% alcohol and an expressive nose of herbs and flowers, and it is balanced, harmonious and elegant and finishes dry and long with a tasty and salty twist.
