Robert Weil Kiedrich Grafenberg Riesling Auslese 2020
The 2020 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Auslese is impressively deep, precise and refined on the nose, with fine slate and highly precise fruit aromas. 2. Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Krone Trocken 2020
Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Krone Trocken 2020
Anyone who doubts the greatness of the best wines from the 2020 vintage in Germany should taste this extremely complex and pristine dry riesling. Enormous minerality and structure, in spite of only being medium-bodied. So finely nuanced. Very long finish, in which slatey and chalky elements are beautifully interwoven with the white-peach and Amalfi-lemon aromas. Enormous aging potential. From organically grown grapes. JAMES SUCKLING, jamessuckling.com

...opens with an intense and complex, very elegant and chalky-fresh bouquet of perfectly ripe Riesling grapes. Lush and silky as well as crystalline on the palate, this is a dense, very complex, finessed and grippy-mineral Krone with a firm, persistently salty and mineral finish. This is an impressive dry Riesling from predominantly 60- to 70+-year-old vines rooting deep in slate soils covering limestone sub-soils. Drink it from a Burgundy glass, in which the wine sits like an open book revealing all about Riesling, chalk and slate. A gorgeous wine with very fine tannins, lingering salinity and dense and juicy, lemony fruit. STEPHAN REINHARDT, wineadvocate.com

  3. Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Trocken 2021
Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Trocken 2021

This is a blend from several western and central Rheingau sites, including Lorch, Eltville, Hattenheim and Kiedrich, most of which reside on loess, clay, slate and quartzite. The vines are between 15 and 20 years of age.
The 2021 Rheingau is a pure Riesling trocken with bright, ripe fruit and fine mineral stone as well as herbal aromas-pretty complex for a generic Rheingau Riesling from Kiedrich, Eltville, Erbach and Lorch. Lush and round but elegant, this is a fruity, juicy and very aromatic Riesling with mouth-filling texture and fine mineral grip on the finish. This is a serious wine with a good, structured and stimulatingly saline finish. 12% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. STEPHAN REINHARDT, vinous.com

Pale greenish gold colour. Light, very fresh and delicate nose. Lifted and ethereal even if without enormous complexity or extract. Just a little chalky-textured on the finish. The finish is pretty persistent. Impressive for an entry-level wine! And because of its light astringency at this point, I'd wait until next year before drinking this wine with a clear Eva Fricke signature. JULIA HARDING MW, jancisrobinson.com

  4. Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling Trocken 2021
Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling Trocken 2021
Enticing spring blossom, white peach and Amalfi lemon aromas with a touch of herbal freshness. Elegant and racy with a tight core of wet stone minerality and fine tannins. Very crisp and bright finish. For a basic dry riesling this should age extremely well. Drink or hold. Screw cap. JAMES SUCKLING

The 2021 Rheingau Riesling Trocken is clear and fresh but a little bit dull on the nose, as if there were a layer of paper between the fruit and nose. Round and lush on the palate, this is a quite rich and juicy estate Riesling with vibrant mineral acidity and a well-structured, persistent finish. Excellent. 12% stated alcohol. Screw cap. 5. Robert Weil Kiedricher Riesling Trocken 2021
Robert Weil Kiedricher Riesling Trocken 2021
Still youthful, but with plenty of ripe pear and white peach aromas. Sleek body with a compact structure and good concentration for this category, but still a little bit shy on the palate. Plenty of lemon zest and some baking spice at the long, firm finish. Two thirds of the cuvee was vinified in stainless steel and one third in large neutral wood. Drink or hold. Screw cap. JAMES SUCKLING

From the higher vineyards in Kiedrich, especially Wasseros but also younger vines from Klosterberg, Turmberg and Gräfenberg, the 2021 Kiedricher Riesling Trocken offers a clear and coolish bouquet of white and yellow-fleshed fruits. Vinified two-thirds in stainless steel and one-third in large oak, this is a round and lush, pretty generous but vivacious and piquant Riesling with intense and elegant fruit, good density and a long, saline and finely grippy finish. Still young and edgy but promising. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted in July 2022. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate

  6. Robert Weil Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken 2021
Robert Weil Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken 2021
The 2021 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken is pure and coolish on the intense and concentrated nose. From phyllite slate soils, this is a full-bodied, intense and salty-piquant, highly stimulating Riesling with lots of energy, phenolic grip and mineral tension. With fine tannin structure, the massive and concentrated body and fruit lead to a long and intense, aromatic finish. Long but still shy and still somewhat coated. Bottled at the end of June. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2022. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate

Extremely racy and extremely nuanced, this is a stunning example of the diamond-bright brilliance of the top 2021 vintage German dry rieslings! Crystalline clarity and purity. Only white fruits, but so many shades of pale. And the freshness at the finish reminds me of a shaded waterfall surrounded by ferns. Excellent aging potential. Drink or hold. JAMES SUCKLING

  7. Robert Weil Kiedrich Grafenberg Riesling Spatlese 2021
Robert Weil Kiedrich Grafenberg Riesling Spatlese 2021
Very ripe yellow peach, mango and mandarin orange aromas with notes of floral honey and fresh basil. Ripe, substantial and well-structured, the fresh acidity give this precise contours. Seriously creamy on the mid-palate, but the finish is super clean. Made for the long-term. Drink or hold. JAMES SUCKLING

The 2021 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Spätlese offers an intense, almost raisiny but also fresh and flinty bouquet with concentrated and candied fruit aromas. Rich and lush on the palate, with stimulating salinity and piquancy, this is a highly stimulating Riesling with lush, sweet and concentrated fruit. Very long and very complex, this is a fabulous Spätlese from the Gräfenberg grand cru. 9% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2022. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate

  8. Robert Weil Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Auslese 2021 375ml
Robert Weil Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Auslese 2021 375ml
A lacy layer of floral honey lies over the very ripe white fruit aromas of this very elegant Auslese. In spite of the impressive concentration and succulence, this riesling Auslese is still really fine, even filigree. What a great vibrancy this also has at the dense finish! Enormous aging potential. Limited production. Drink or hold. JAMES SUCKLING

The 2021 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Auslese is precise, fresh and flinty on the nose yet pretty sweet on the palate. This is an elegant and refined, dense and saline, seriously grippy and stimulating Auslese with enormous aging potential. Very long but very sweet as well. 8.5% stated alcohol plus 110 grams per liter of residual sugar. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2022. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate

  9. Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Trocken 2022
Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Trocken 2022

… this really benefits from aeration, releasing aromas of white tree fruit, fresh garden herbs, citrus and spring flowers. Remarkable structure and energy for an entry-level wine, the medium-bodied palate creamy and racy. Impressively long finish with notes of preserved lemons and rhubarb. Vegan. Drink or hold. Screw cap. STUART PIGGOT

The 2022 Riesling Rheingau is mostly harvested in the upper Rheingau, meaning Kiedrich and Eltville. The nose combines a touch of nettle with lemon hints. The palate is light and dry, taut and bright, beautifully clean-cut with a pithy, zesty texture that underlines its lemony, citric presence even more. Balanced, fresh, dry. (Dry) ANNE KREBIEHL MW

  10. Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Kiedrich Trocken 2022
Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Kiedrich Trocken 2022

The 2022 Riesling Kiedrich is restrained on the nose, giving little away. The palate shows tender notes of green apple, lemon and juicy, tart fruit on a light, equally juicy body. Dry and totally mouthwatering, this comes across as more svelte than it is, but convincing with a super-clean lemony verve. The 2022 is taut and bright with just a hit of spice on the zesty finish. (Bone-dry) ANNE KREBIEHL MW

The 2022 Kiedrich is deep, pure and flinty on the coolish, spicy, lemony and flinty nose. Medium to full-bodied, this is a lush, round and mouth-filling yet not bone-dry Riesling with a saline, savory and finely grippy finish with some phenols. 12% stated alcohol. Screw cap. STEPHAN REINHARDT

  11. Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Lorch Schlossberg 2022
Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Lorch Schlossberg 2022

How can you resist this barely off-dry riesling beauty? It's brimming with peach, nectarine and spring blossoms, plus a hint of fresh baguette yeastiness. Wonderfully juicy, thanks to the cornucopia of fruit, and extremely vibrant ,thanks to the racy acidity on the medium-bodied palate. Extremely long finish with a super abundance of peach-skin and wet-stone character. Enormous aging potential. (98) STUART PIGGOT

The 2022 Riesling Lorcher Schlossberg is right next to the Krone, but underneath the slate, there is quartzite. There's a flicker of reduction combined with fresh, ripe, juicy apple flesh on the nose. The palate reprises the theme but in a more juicy, open fashion. Concentration and juiciness characterize the palate, enhanced by subtle sweetness, which is well accommodated by inherent zestiness. The finish is long, medium-sweet and serene. ANNE KREBIEHL MW

  12. Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Lorchhäuser Seligmacher QBA 2022
Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Lorchhäuser Seligmacher QBA 2022

What an extraordinary nose of pink grapefruit, Thai basil and flint. This medium-bodied dry riesling is extremely focused and racy, but also wonderfully juicy, and the interplay of these two sides is like ying and yang. Electric energy powers the extremely long, stony and spicy finish. Great aging potential! From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink or hold. (97) STUART PIGGOT

Riesling Lorcher Seligmacher has a gentle nose of Navel orange flesh, fresh, fruity and ripe. More air gives a sense of ripe, sweet apple flesh. The palate is juicy and bright. The concentration drives home a sense of zestiness, but there is a fill of orange flesh juiciness. The finish is dry, but this is richer, rounder, beautifully juicy and serene. It finishes just about off-dry with more of those lovely ripe citrus notes. (Off-dry) ANNE KREBIEHL MW
