Cristom Mount Jefferson Pinot Noir 2021Visiting Willamette valley with Roscoe last year was great - but it was the wines from Cristom that really stole the show on this trip, there is a density and complexity to these wines that is hard to find outside of Burgundy. This Mt Jefferson Pinot Noir 2021 is a great introduction to the style - refined powerful and yet supper delicious right now. I’m incredibly impressed with the 2021s coming from the Cristom Estate, and this one is a perfect example of the phenomenal wines from the vintage. The Mt. Jefferson Estate Pinot Noir was just recently released, but it feels ready to drink now with impeccable balance, structure, and length. Notes of wild huckleberry, toasted anise, perfumed flowers, spiced red plum, and a hint of tangerine zest combine beautifully on the tongue. Delivering perfect balance, mouthwatering acidity, and rounded tannins, this will be a fun wine to watch over the next ten years to see how it evolves with age. Elk Cove Goodrich Pinot Noir 2021Subtle spice and wood is evident but in no means detracts from the rather enticing aromatics. Smoky, incense and deeply pitched, upfront fruit but overall the style is mid weight and fragrant with a bitter cherry clip that carries the fruit along a fine and detailed palate. Long and precise wine with ample grip and muscle, those bunchy elements help to contour and shape things while little bursts of minerality pique the interest.
