  1. Domaine Olivier Merlin Macon La Roche Vineuse Vieilles Vignes 2020
Domaine Olivier Merlin Macon La Roche Vineuse Vieilles Vignes 2020
The 2020 Mâcon La Roche Vineuse Vieilles Vignes, from 50 to 60-year old vines, was the first cuvée to be bottled this year. The nose has superior definition to the regular cuvée with green apple and granite. The palate is well balanced, very elegant with hints of ginger and blackberry leaf on the slightly honeyed finish. Lovely. NEAL MARTIN

Here too there is a suggestion of wood lurking in the background of the slightly riper if less exotic aromas of pear, apple and lemon zest. The old vines are in evidence as the medium weight and opulent flavors possess both better concentration and volume, all wrapped in an intense, sneaky long and sappy finish. This refreshing effort should also drink well young BURGHOUND

  2. Domaine Olivier Merlin Pouilly Fuisse Vieilles Vignes 2020
Domaine Olivier Merlin Pouilly Fuisse Vieilles Vignes 2020
Merlin told me that his 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes comes from the oldest vines not Premier Cru, up to 91 years old. This has a fragrant, quite mineral-driven bouquet with touches of dried yellow flowers and Vervane. The palate is well balanced with a slightly honeyed entry, fine acidity, nicely focused with hints of passion fruit and lychee conveying the warmth of that year's summer on the finish. Very fine. 3. Alexis de Benoist Macon Villages 2021
Alexis de Benoist Macon Villages 2021
Golden colour. Deep and honeyed, grilled cashew and white flower aromatic. Fruit spectrum dances around the orchard and something slightly more exotic with a puff of white smoke putting a complexing note into the conversation. The palate follows suits with a lovely attack of sweet citrus and melon fruits spreading across the palate before a blast of limestone-linked austerity and tension pulls everything back into line. It's a wine I just loved drinking. you get Macon generosity and enjoyment alongside enough tension on the backend to keep you wanting another glass. This guys is a "watch-this-space" producer. MICHAEL MCNAMARA, PWS
