  1. Wynns Davis Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Wynns Davis Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

The last bottling of wine from the Davis vineyard was in 2008. The aromas here are impossibly bright and deep. Blackberry and raspberry, blood and ferrous, creamy blackberry pie – crust as well. The acidity is saline and fresh. This is astoundingly beautiful. Driven by fruit and powered by a thundering undercurrent of soft tannin, this will surely live into its 3rd decade with ease, and likely still retain some of the vibrancy. Inchoate though it is, a star is on the rise. The last bottling of wine from the Davis vineyard was in 2008. The aromas here are impossibly bright and deep. Coonawarra and cabernet. What a combination. This is a wonderful cabernet, fine and fruity yet tannic too, all the flavours and components then lingering as it draws out through the finish. Boysenberry, blackcurrant, a touch of iodine, purple flowers and a lick of smoky, cedarwood oak. You have to love the tannin structure here; it’s an assertive murmur, somehow, controlling the shape of the wine in a nudging kind of way. This is a ‘Claret++ style’ of cabernet, with emphasis on the ++. It’s going to mature majestically. CAMPBELL MATTINSON
