This wine has dropped the Bozeto styling and is now simply called Exopto. New name, same vibrant, great-value Rioja. This pan-regional expression of Rioja’s three principal grape varieties is conceived as a lively, easy-drinking introduction to the range. Most entry-level wines from this region are based on Tempranillo (a variety easier and more profitable to grow), yet here Garnacha represents 65% of the blend. This Garnacha hails from very old vines in the sandy, river-stone terroirs of El Agudo and Al Casillón at Alfaro (Rioja Oriental). The Tempranillo is drawn from a selection of mature vines in Ábalos (high-county Rioja Alta), and some Ábalos Graciano adds freshness and finesse.

The wine ferments in a combination of concrete and steel tank, then ages for six months in concrete and 5,000-litre oak vats. These days, Tom includes a measure of semi-carbonic maceration for extra buoyancy. Opening with perfumes of dusky berries and well-judged spice, this is a wonderfully aromatic, restaurant-friendly wine. It’s a wine that impresses with its precision rather than power. Even so, the warmer year gives an open, juicy wine and a great deal of drinking pleasure: spice, vibrancy and velvety flow flecked with notes of espresso, dried flowers and wild woody herbiness to go with its smoky blackberry fruit. If you’re looking for a bright, succulent grower Rioja, few will deliver better value than this.

Made from pinot noir grown in the Geelong, Ballarat and Henty regions of Victoria.

You have to admire the complexity on offer here. It’s cohesive but it’s all happening. It tastes of chicory, twigs, orange peel, black cherries and foresty, mint-like notes, the finish and the tannin then infused with peppercorns and more. You get more than your money’s worth. Fruit is 60/35/5% Ballarat/Geelong/Henty. Matured in French barriques and puncheons (10% new). Medium crimson red, this is an excellent introduction to Provenance's range of 2022 pinots. About 50% whole bunches and 50% new French barriques. Bright crimson. A little more complex than the also very good 2022, which is on release too. Red fruits and rose petals together with a touch of reduction, which adds to the wine, giving it sapidity. Savoury and structured and with lots of energy. Needs time and food. An excellent showing. Sourced from four single vineyards in Geelong, two in the Moorabool Valley (Hillside Haven & Springbank) and two from the Bellarine (Hat Rock & Suma Park)

Each parcel was treated the same; wild yeast fermented with around 50% whole bunches. The wine was then matured for 10 months in 35% new French oak barriques. Malolactic conversion finished in spring with only minimal sulfur additions.

This is a Pinot that attracts first with its aroma of mushroom, and earth, enticing with some exotic dark cherry, wet leaves and a hint of jasmine. Following the scent, there is the anticipation of taste, and if you have chosen well, expect some flavours of dark cherry with undercurrents of earth and spice. Texture-wise, this Pinot has a smooth and silky mouthfeel. Flavour, body, and finish built to drink on release or age.

Pomarina takes its name from the Latin word for apple; Poma. In autumn, organically-grown apples are carefully selected and harvested from El Gaitero's own orchards and local growers, which are regulated under the PDO Sidra de Asturias

Golden with straw/yellow hue. It's floral, skinsy, deep and open in style. There are sweet, nutty, savoury and bitter elements. Abundant small bubbles add to the skin richness, mouthfeel and weight. The freshness of air-dried-apple granola in the cool of morning jostles with the perfume heft of a muggy wheat field after rain. Skins, then seeds and later, a touch of apple core bitterness gives rim to a mouthfeel of brilliant balance, which holds beautifully and releases with a delicate acetic rinse. Apple poetry!

SPECIAL VALUE. A four-vineyard, six-clone blend; 20% wholes bunches, 15% new oak. A bright crimson red. A lifted bouquet redolent of summer red fruits, poached rhubarb, rose bush and white pepper. The energetic palate is light to medium bodied with the wine's fine-grained tannins and bright acidity making for a delicious and refreshing mouthful. Gosh this is an attractive wine. So many violets and indeed so redolent generally of a garden in bloom. Blue and red berried fruit flavours come melted with potpourri, sweet spice, leaf matter and twigs. Fruit and florals are the drivers but then the extras are tucked within. Mint and blood orange characters are here too, along with a decent crack of tannin. This is obviously meant to be consumed in its youth but even so, a quick double-decant does it a world of good. Mulline Wines is the project of Ben Mullen and Ben Hine, crafting small-batch, site-focused wines from Geelong’s cool-climate vineyards. With a hands-off approach and a focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Mulline delivers vibrant, elegant wines that capture the purity and character of the region.

The philosophy is all about precision, freshness, and purity. Mulline sources fruit from carefully selected vineyards, many of which are farmed sustainably or organically, and crafts wines with a light touch.

Delamere Vineyards were planted in 1982 in the Pipers River region in northeast Tasmania making it one of the oldest plantings not only in the region but in Tasmania. They have 6.5ha under vine and its age makes it a rare resource in Tasmania. The ironstone rich soils are perfectly suited to the cultivars of pinot noir and chardonnay, and was established in the traditional French design used in Burgundy and Champagne.

The low yield per vine and the reflective heat from the ground produces wines with superior depth of flavour and ripe well-developed tannins. Vine age and subsequent natural balance are key factors in the consistent production of wines with great structure and harmony.

Perfumed and pretty on the nose but then racy on the palate. It feels like a low-dosage style. Strawberries, lime blossom, grapefruit and lemon rind. It all sizzles out through the finish, with length to burn. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, the winefront 

The 2016 Xerico that we are offering today is an ode to the wines that Roberto's ancestors drank - Rioja without oak maturation. In place of the oak is cement and chestnut foudre's. The other connection with the past is that the wine contains 15% of the white grape Viura whilst the balance is Tempranillo.

Xerico is the name of the soil 'Xeric Torriothent'! This is a carlcareous marl soil from the Tertiary era on eroded slopes.

This wine is from three plots - El Pedrón, La Entrada and La Fuente Colas. The age of the vines range from 15 to 50 years old.

Fermentation is completed with natural yeasts in stainless steel and cement vats to retain freshness and minerality. As I mentioned above this wine doesn't see any oak and is aged for five months in cement vats and chestnut foudres.

Don't think of this as Joven style - it is much more serious.

Comprising of almost all Mencía with just a dash of Tempranillo and Sousón, this expressive, light bodied wine captures the very essence of Ribeira Sacra, grown on slopes above the River Sil so vertiginous they can only be worked by hand. A mix of vineyards and clones from the Lusatia Park vineyard in Woori Yallock. Bright cherry red. An immediately appealing wine with its dark cherry fruit, lavender and incense. This has good weight and depth without being heavy. A touch savoury, too, and the tannins are silky and long. Already a joy to drink, this will still be looking good four to six years from now. Claríto is a tribute to the deep traditions of Rioja, updated perhaps. ‘Back in the day’ such wines were the epitome of a Village Rioja. In little towns, a small amount of Viura would trickle in, but it would take days to fill a press, so it was ‘little-by-little’ adding whatever correctly-picked fruit came in until a batch was ready, first white then later some red.

In 2022, the Viura was picked (September 14th), de-stemmed and macerated for 3 days or so until the red was ready to pick. This was added as 100% whole bunch Garnacha atop the white. After a couple of days co-maceration, it was gently pressed to a yield of just 65%. The young Clarete must was then left to ferment spontaneously in combination of a 3,200L raw concrete vat and a 2,000L stainless tank. Working with lots of skins, the fermentation started easily and was done in 8 days. The young wine and its fine lees were then aged in gorgeous raw concrete cubes for 8 months (a portion aged in a single old 1,000 litre foudre), stirred occasionally to protect from reduction During this time, natural malolactic conversion happens to create balance and palate structure. No sulphur additions are made to the wine.

The subtle orange look of Claríto ‘22 is matched on the nose with a line of tangerine skin. This fragrance plays beautifully around an air of ‘dust in a Rioja vineyard’, along with faded roses. Dried silage (including a hint of pickle) and sea shell smells tell of Viura grown in chalk. The nose is deep, bell-clear, like smelling the water in a well, many feet down, below the dust, the heat, the haze. Cool and still. The throat develops a deep compulsive tickle of desire to swallow. One is drawn in. In the mouth, there’s savoury roundness backlit citric with orange and golden persimmon, crabapples, brushed steel earthiness, faded florals. Steel magnolias and cherry skins in short. It’s edged by deep chalky minerality and run through with tangible energy … a circle with a line through it. Plenty of skinsy-tannin mouthfeel gives ungrippy grip, presence without tension.

Crianza red wine made from the varieties Tempranillo (90%), Garnacha (5%) and a small percentage of other native varietals, sourced exclusively from vineyards located in Rioja Alavesa. After a manual picking, all the grapes are hand-selected using vibration and selection tables. Long macerations and intracellular fermentations with indigenous yeasts in conic stainless-steel tanks. Natural extraction by gravity. 14 month ageing in French and American oak barrels.

Intense cherry color of upper middle layer. Aromas of black fruit and compote, spaces and dairy stand out. The palate is elegant, fresh and silky and shows a long aftertaste.
