Patient Wolf Premium Dry Gin (700ml)If you haven’t noticed the explosion in the craft gin scene in Australia then you must be living under a rock. As a Gin fanatic that has been pretty exciting for me in the last few years watching this category re-energised. Matt and Dave from Patient wolf are one of the newest kids on the block and they have done a fantastic job with their super locally crafted Patient Wolf gin. Yes - I know its not wine!
With the help of their 230L Muller copper still, custom built in Germany they have made what is one of my favorite Aussie Gins to date - and there are a lot of them! Grapefruity-Citrus opens on the nose that breaks and revels a lovely savoury, earthy bent to this gin that I absolutely love. Orris root and peppry corriander compliment the underlying juniper drive. There is an almost forest floor like edge to the pithy citrus flecked core that just works brilliantly and sets it apart from so many Gins that are making their way on to the scene.
Perfect Gin and tonic gin with a slice of ruby grapefruit or try it as a Gin buck with lime, mint and dry ginger. Yum!

Hurley Hommage Pinot Noir 2022Homage faces north-east, is the smallest of the vineyards, was planted from cuttings taken from Main Ridge Estate, and – important on the Peninsula – is the most sheltered of the vineyards.
This release is better than excellent. It’s elegant and fine-boned but it has genuine power, most of the latter formed, assembled and employed through the back half of the palate and out through the finish. It’s a Pinot Noir for lovers of Pinot Noir. It’s modestly sweet-sour but it’s silken and cohesive, its black cherry, meat, toast and floral elements singing as one. Giant Steps Applejack Pinot Noir 20232022 was a hard act to follow, but this superb wine gives it a shake. Exotic, aromatic and pure with its bouquet of wild strawberries, dark cherries, quince, spices and flowers. Hurley Lodestone Pinot Noir 2022Lodestone is north-facing and the warmest of the three sites. But it’s planted to the Burgundian clones 114, 115 and 777 (along with some MV6), and the soils the vines are planted in are rockier. (The Hurley Vineyard is currently for sale, if anyone is interested.)
This is an excellent release. Taut, perfumed, meaty in essence but pretty at the same time. Floral. Its tastes of game, black cherries and strawberries-dipped-in-chocolate, the latter of which makes it sound ‘sweet’ but it’s not; there are so many earth/spice/smoke/meat characters here that it largely comes across as savoury. Wonderfully complex and new, there’s no mistaking the layers in the bouquet with aromas of place from minerality to ripe red berry fruits of boysenberry and plum then dark cherry and some raspberry suggestions. The scents of baking spices and smoke from barrel are both sweet and lifted as well as complex. A dry and equally complex wine touches the palate with textures and flavours that reflect the bouquet all at once teasing with polished tannins and medium+ acidity then red fruits and spice. The distillery is a relatively new operation headed by Bob Russell and sons, Matthew and Stephen. It is unique in several senses but first off it is housed in a Victorian-era pumphouse in the now derelict Chatham Dockyard south of London. The dockyard was at one time of huge importance to the Empire building ships for the Royal Navy from Napoleonic times through to the Falklands. The pumphouse # 5 was used to pump out water for the dry docks. Russell saw an opportunity to revitalise a magnificent piece of English architecture, give some locals a job and indulge his passion for making bespoke spirits. Domaine de Bellene Beaune Blanches Fleurs 2021This comes from two plots have been part of the Domaine since 2006 and cover 38.51 ares. They were planted in 1971 on a quality rootstock, giving them late maturity. From Les Peuillets and Hauts Jarrons

Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022The 2022 Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir is light and fine, with a delicate array of cherry, strawberry, red apple and freshly pressed linen notes. Woven throughout is sweet tobacco, graphite, white tea and finely ground pink peppercorns. In the mouth, the acidity works with the tannins to penetrate the palate with flavor, and it has an ethereal quality to it, which marks it as distinctly different from the Sauvage Pinot Noir. Tasting a nip reveals a boozy heat, turns up the intensity of these two main botanicals and reveals a pleasant peppery finish. It's surprisingly subtle in a G&T due to its well-muddled flavours, and if you like a slow-burning lingering spicy finish, you'll like this gin.
