This wine results from the blending of 2 plots: " En Bignon " (clay soil on hard limestone) and " Le Clou" (white chalky soil, significant gravelling on yellow marl) from Nantoux. The complexity and diversity of the different plots is expressed through the wine, which reveals the potential of the Hautes Cotes and the impact of altitude on the wine, which is why the "cuvée" is named after it. Hand harvest at optimum maturity. Winemaking : careful extraction, 50% whole cluster, wooden fermenters. Barrel aging: 12 months in average with 15% new oak.
Stone fruit, hints of cedar and undergrowth form the aromatic structure of this wine. The palate is very expressive, packed with delicious red and black fruit and showing a nice underlying acidity. This wine is true to the image we have of a perfect Burgundy, immensely pleasurable, refined and very "thirst-quenching".

Nectarine, cumquat jelly and rosewater, ginger and cinnamon, hazelnut, chamomile and mint, and while I’ve likely written some outlandish stuff here, in essence, it pretty much just smells and tastes like a very good Chardonnay. It has plenty of flavour, though it’s not heavy, hazelnut and salted pistachio, a subtle cultured butter character, a chalky and stony thing to texture, acidity is cool and fine, green mango and ripe lemon closes out a finish of excellent length. Boris Champy Hautes Cotes de Beaune Blanc Montagne 382 2022From the Montagne de Cras, plot in Nantoux, the soils here is very varied, stony, but also full of clay. The 4-hectare plot is made up of 3 hectares of vines and 1 hectare of natural areas of great biodiversity: scree slopes, hedges, orchards, limestone grasslands with numerous orchids and even a few corm trees, which are extremely rare these days.
In the winery, the fruit is whole bunch pressed into part barrel (25% new) and part small stainless barrels and left to sit on lees for up to 12 months.
Rich and generous citrus fruits, honey and subtle floral notes, rounded out by a nice integration of oak and balanced acidity.

Tapanappa 1.5m Tiers Chardonnay 2024The close spaced planting of this part of the Tiers vineyard imparts a slightly different flavour and textural feel to the Chardonnays from the old Tiers plantings. Intense aromas of tropical fruits, brioche and spices. The palate is ripe and textured although the chalky acid and light citrus edge hold the definition and line through to the long finish. Wow! This is something. I know many prefer the Tiers Chardonnay, but for the last two years I have leaned towards this 1.5m and I don't apologise for it. Elegance and purity seep through this wine's veins and I want it all.
Brian Croser describes 2024 as a model vintage and this release is tight and laser-like focused on opening. Concentrated stonefruit lands all the praise early on - the flavour intensity compared to the Tiers Chardonnay is telling and is due to a combination of close-planted vines and different clones. Grapefruit, slivers of almonds and fine drops of lemon juice draw out to a long finish. Baked cheesecake, vanilla pod, a touch of oyster shell and hints of brioche continue to peel back veneers of interest that seem to be brushed on ever so delicately. The precision is elite and the concentration supreme yet its presence is graceful and charming. Give it time to evolve and you'll be rewarded further more. Brilliant stuff. The 2022 Home Vineyard Pinot Noir is possessed of a most exciting display of red fruits and ductile tannin in concert. The tannins have a much closer, more densely packed feeling than the unfurling/spooling Olearia. There’s pomegranate, red and black cherry, licorice, star anise and even a hint of cumin seed. It's a wonderful wine that I know from experience benefits from a decant, which allows the fruit to stretch its legs, so to speak. Supple, throaty and full but not big. Tapanappa 1.5m Tiers Chardonnay 2023From a section of the Tiers vineyard close planted in 2003 using the Bernard clones 76 and 95. This is same same, but different to the old vine Tiers, a little fleshier, but it’s the texture that’s the main point of difference.
White stonefruit, pear, quite spicy and slightly dusty/peppery, honey and lime. The texture is a highlight, chalky and ‘mineral’, ripe lime and honey, white peach, spicy cinnamon oak, almond meal, with plenty of citrus bite on a finish of excellent length. Marvellous wine. To quote winemaker, Brian Croser, the ’23 Chardonnays are far from “overt.” I find that re-assuring, the vintage speaks and it’s beautifully fine with purity of fruit and acidity layered naturally, succinctly, making 1.5m poised for further ageing. Meyer lemon, lemon drop, nectarine, peach aromas with a hint of cashew – in other words an alluring introduction. Still incredibly youthful, offers a core of perfectly pitched citrus and stone fruits in balance and concentrated. Crittenden Estate 'Cri de Coeur' Pinot Noir 2021Fragrant, well-balanced Pinot Noir offering energetic red cherry/strawberry flavours with attractive floral lifts. There’s a touch more weight on this release than has become customary for this label but even so it’s generally slender and elegant. It’s good now but into the medium term it will age well. The cooler season seems to suit Cri de Coeur as of all the pinots, this has the deepest colour – a vibrant garnet, and has amalgamated the best at this early stage. Fragrant with florals and autumn leaves after rain with flavours of morello and sweet red cherries, tamarind and turmeric, pepper and aniseed melding into the medium-bodied palate. The raw silk tannins have some sway and are just coming into unison, with the acidity allowing a lingering finish. Chatto Intrigue Pinot Noir 2023Intrigue. What a good name for a Pinot Noir. Anyway, Jim Chatto is a very good fellow, and very giving of his outstanding knowledge of wine, and he’d know so much more than me, generally, maybe aside Piedmont.
This has a lot more flavour and pop than the Isle, lots of cherry and almond, and spicy things, and quite some richness of fruit. I like the sooty tannin, and the cherry-almond laced flavour that it offers, there’s cherry pip and some ‘mineral’ acidity to it, blonde tobacco too, and it’s a wine that presents with some lush flavour, with a gentle sappiness to close. Here be flavour and good Pinot things, and I really like this wine. It has some oomph and carriage that the Isle maybe lacks. I like this wine for its juiciness and flavour.
