Piero Busso Langhe Nebbiolo 2021The Langhe Nebbiolo is crafted from a selection of 10- to 15-year-old vines in the Neive crus of Balluri, Albesani and Gallina. The wine fermented in stainless steel and then aged in oak botti for 12 months before being bottled unfiltered.
This is just a gorgeous, old-school rendition of Nebbiolo. Pale-coloured, medium-bodied, and loaded with red and blue fruits, hints of rosewater, red meat and leather, as well as plenty of powdery tannins. A Nebbiolo to open when you’re in the mood for a Pinot-weighted wine. Gorgeous.

Kenzie Waiohinganga Chardonnay 2022Grown on deep alluvial river sands and stone left behind by the Esk River, vines experience a maritime influence where warm, dry days are followed by a cool sea breeze.
Handpicked fruit was wholebunch pressed direct to 500L puncheons with full solids. 10% of which was new French oak. After a few days, wild fermentation spontaneously started and progressed for 20 days with a maximum temperature of 24 deg C.
Post fermentation the wine was stirred a few times and left to mature at cool and allowed to go through full Malolactic Fermentation. Stirring every 3- 4 weeks. Minimal sulphur was added after 5 months. After a total of 9 months of barrel maturation the wine was racked to tank for bottling. No fining or filtration.

Fraser Gallop Estate Parterre Chardonnay 2022I see the Chardonnays from this season being quite nutty, and certainly texturally wide, which follows the conditions of the season. The wine is floral-particularly chamomile-with lashings of crushed nuts and red apple skins, jasmine and crushed shells, a hint of wisteria and shortcrust pastry. Nose is shy at first, then opens out to fine spice, sea foam, poached green apple, lemon curd, a flint-laden mineral lift and a hint of fresh peppercorn. A riper vintage has only added more fruit definition to an otherwise savoury and super-fine wine. Some moreish sulphides tease the richer flavours of creamy curd-like lees and spicy, slick oak, with the fruit hovering between lemon, grapefruit and makrut; mouth-watering acidity too. The wines under this label have been quite a revelation in recent years. This one from the excellent '22 vintage is another cracker. It's a precise and elegantly crafted wine with a steely minerally core. Aromas of pear and quince paste with a little citrus tang. Syrahmi Garden of Earthly Delights Chardonnay 2021It walks to the beat of its own drum and it does so successfully. Lemon curd, wheat, honeydew melon and assorted floral notes work in with earth, bran and cedar. If you called it kaleidoscopic you wouldn't be exaggerating. It's not thick with flavour (it's relatively lean), but everything here both spreads and gathers. Before Eric Nuccio was Evesham Wood, he was Haden Fig. His journey into winemaking began in Washington D.C., where he developed a passion for Oregon Pinot Noir while working at a respected wine retailer there. After gaining experience in wine distribution and formal education in viticulture and oenology, Nuccio and his wife moved to the Willamette Valley in Oregon. There, he apprenticed under Russ Raney, the founder of Evesham Wood Winery going on to work with him each vintage while eventually starting Haden Fig in 2007.
For his pinot gris Eric aims for a classic Alsace styling. This is achieved through thought the use of barrel fermentation in older, large format French oak. Here he is not aiming to add oak flavours or aromas but seeks out the textual elements through micro-oxygenation from time in barrel and some light lees contact. This is a wonderfully textured wine with spicy fruit and lilting aromatics that packs in the flavour and drives with wonderful energy and freshness. In 2022 the grapes are sourced from the Mahonia property and the recently purchased Torres Bros Vineyard.

The 23 is built on ease of operation. Slightly more forward than the 2022 with a solid push of fruit, plenty of citrus zest, green apple and edging on some more ripe, seemingly juicy characters that expand out nicely. Punchy acidity freshens things up and the all too important salty twang, that we expect from Chantemerle, makes itself known throughout. Olivier Morin Bourgogne Blanc Chitry 'Constance' 2022Olivier Morin took over the family business in 1992, after a first life spent in the music world. The 14ha domaine is currently undergoing organic certification. When he took over, his parents were making just their three appellations: Aligoté, plus Chitryof both colours. In 2022, hailstorms reduced yields by 60%, meaning this year’s wine includes a measure of purchased grapes. It’s a delicious, pulpy white that wafts from the glass with buttercup, fleshy stone fruit and citrus. The palate is attractively punchy and succulent, its’ satiny texture flecked with stone fruits, rock melon and sweet orange with a nip of reduction tying everything neatly together.
