Kelley Fox Chardonnay ‘Dux Vineyard’ Dundee Hills 2021
Dundee Hills A.V.A. A new bottling in the Kelley Fox lineup, this is from a vineyard planted in the Dundee Hills with cuttings from Cameron's legendary Abbey Ridge vineyard. After finishing primary fermentation in a stainless tank, the Dux was racked to neutral Burgundy barrels (228L) made from French forests for élevage and malolactic fermentation.

  2. Deutz Brut Rose NV
    Deutz Brut Rose NV
A blend of Premier Cru and Grand Cru Pinots Noir grapes from the terroirs of Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Avenay, Bouzy, Ambonnay, Verzenay and Tauxières with a touch of Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs -mainly Avize, Villeneuve-Renneville, Vertus- (respectively about 90% - 10%).
Its specific style and colour are the result of blending in about 8% red wine mainly from the vineyard plots in Aÿ (Pierre Robert, La Pelle) and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ (Cumaine, Vaularon, Mutry).
The vines are very well sited and belong to Deutz. The red wine is made by our cellar-master.
After almost three years ageing on its lees, the aromas have softened and harmonised, giving this Brut Rosé a particularly subtle nose, and a very interesting mixture of softness and freshness on the palate. Calabria Family Wines, Importer

  3. Bouchard Beaune de Chateau 2020 1er
Bouchard Beaune de Chateau 2020 1er

The 2020 Beaune du Château Blanc 1er Cru has a light and fresh apple blossom and orange pith scented bouquet, just a hint of camomile in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a zesty opening, fine acidity, quite lively with a touch of stem ginger towards the finish. This is worth seeking out. NEAL MARTIN, vinous.com

The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru du Château Blanc had been assembled in foudre when I tasted it. Exhibiting aromas of pear, hazelnuts, white flowers, freshly baked bread and orange oil, it's a medium to full-bodied, chalky and incisive wine with lively acids and a saline finish. WILLIAM KELLEY, wineadvocate.com

More open, good freshness, a touch of barrel - almost coconut. Extra freshness that I wasn't expecting - quite a mineral freshness and coolness to this wine. I'd give it a year for the, still modest oak to fade. Fine and creamy finishing with a faintly phenolic texture - that's a great Beaune for the price! BILL NANSON, burgundyreport.com

Peay Vineyards West Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2022
The 2022 Chardonnay (West Sonoma Coast) is a gorgeous appellation-level wine. Apricot, chamomile, dried flowers, mint, tangerine peel and a kiss of French oak all grace this tasty Chardonnay. Time in the glass releases some of the wine's textural intensity.ANTONIO GALLONI

The 2022 Chardonnay West Sonoma Coast sports a bright yellow/straw hue and is expressive on opening with notes of pear, white flowers, orange blossom, and fresh hazelnut. Medium to full-bodied, it reveals a nice linear feel, but it has a lovely, high-quality carriage of citrus oils (lime) and a long, great, mouthwatering finish. Drink this over the next 10 years. R. Pouillon Grande Vallee Champagne NV
    Pinot dominant blend
The NV Extra Brut Grande Vallée is a blend of 65% Pinot Noir, 20% Pinot Meuneir and 15% Chardonnay harvested in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Mutigny, Epernay, Avenay-Val-d'Or and Festigny, 45% of the blend is from the 2019 vintage, 30% from 2018, both aged in oak, and 25% reserve wines kept in foudre. Golden color leads onto an earthy, expansive nose that has an overtone of ripe red bell pepper and juicy plum, with an oxidative edge from wood ageing. The palate is lighter than either color or nose suggest, flowing with inherent juiciness on a body that has traction and Pinot structure, but also bright freshness. Individual and surprisingly light. Dosage is 2gr/L. ANNE KREBIEHL MW

Aromas of dried orange and apple with spices, such as saffron and cloves. Full-bodied and layered red with lots of spices on the palate, as well as orange-peel, stone and light strawberry flavors. Layered and structured. More textured than some. Good one for food. 65% pinot noir, 15% chardonnay and 20% pinot meunier. Based on 2019 and 2018 with reserve wines. Dosage 2g/L. JAMES SUCKLING

…Here the intention is not of consistency but of maximising quality each year. The colour has a notable peachy hue. The gently lifted, expressive nose offers appley fruit complemented by white peach and vanilla. A touch of toast adds to the complexity. The palate has even more charm, being intense and silky with a seamlessly integrated mousse. Gentle and easily approachable, this is a fruit-forward style. ESSIE AVELLAN MW

The NV Extra-Brut Cuvee R is 90% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier aged in cask. This is a beautifully precise, vibrant Champagne that emerges with attractive layers of perfumed, expressive fruit wrapped around a rich, creamy finish. The presence of red grapes and oak give the wine a level of depth and richness that deftly balances the intense minerality of Vertus and the house style. This is Lot 6503, disgorged: March, 2009.

This wine in recent years is showing even greater definition and class. Is it from the organic viticulture, new tanks and equipment giving sharper focus, or now that Fabien has nearly 20 vintages of experience in creating what has become one of the most seamless and perfectly formed 1er cru Chablis’ to come from this appellation. 27. Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2023
    Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2023
A wine that starts with a whisper and ends in a crescendo. A little flint, lemon oil and spice act as a quiet introduction before the wine expands in your mouth. This is a wine that's all about texture, first enveloping your palate with its silken caress before it's drawn in and funneled to the finish with a lovely chalky embrace. There's a distinctive gin and tonic character, salty pink grapefruit, a little white peach and a subtle herbal seasoning. The oak is there, but not leading the conversation, as little influence as I can remember seeing in this wine. It's still a little embyronic at this early stage of it's life but as is the case with Heytesbury a little time is needed to draw out the full bow. A wine of such class and quiet confidence. The NV Brut Rosé is flat-out delicious. The word 'balance' is so overused in wine, but I really can't think of a better way to describe the Brut Rosé. WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - A similar style to the Vaillons but with extra impact. Ooh - extra volume balanced with some fluidity. The palate is well balanced with a taut bead of acidity, quite vibrant and slightly peachy towards the pithy finish. Certainly a step up from the Beaune Blanc this year. NEAL MARTIN, vinous.com

  39. Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2018
    Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2018

The 2018 Brut Vintage is absolutely delicious, just as it was last year. Floral and citrus notes give the 2018 lovely aromatic lift to play off its mid-weight personality. This is a classy, polished Vintage Champagne marked by notable brightness. Airy, elegant and silky in feel, the 2018 is an absolute delight. ANTONIO GALLONI

Pol Roger's 2018 vintage is showing many of the fine facets of the year upon release already, open and giving in style with roasted pear, ripe apricot and grapefruit skin, lightly creamy and developing richness in pecan and brown pastry. The Pinot Noir leads, relatively structured for the year while showing hints of the smoke and spice to come with further age. A wine that flows with some of the ease and charm of 2018, but that promises a fairly early – if rewarding – unfolding in bottle. DECANTER

Made from 60% Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay and pouring a vibrant silver/yellow color, the 2018 Champagne Brut Vintage (like all these wines) was aged in stainless steel without any oak. In the glass, it opens to springy and dewy floral aromas of honeydew melon, fresh flowers, citrus blossoms, and pastry dough. Medium-bodied and inviting, it’s approachable now and takes on a more mineral character on the palate without ever feeling austere. All its components move seamlessly through the palate, with a refined mousse and a kiss of sunny feel on the finish, but it’s clean and refined all the way through. This is going to improve with age, but it’s quite enjoyable now. Drink over the coming 15 or so years. It was made exclusively from Premier Cru and Grand Cru villages, was aged for 6 years on the lees JEB DUNNUCK

The 2018 Brut Vintage, with a dosage of seven grams per liter, exhibits a delicate bouquet of ripe orchard fruits, pineapple, peach, sweet spices and pastry, followed by a full-bodied, rich and elegantly creamy mid-palate that segues into a fleshy core of fruit with a penetrating, long and saline finish. Admirers of Pol Roger’s style will love it. WINE ADVOCATE

Pale lemon with a lively and persistent mousse and an attractive nose of Spring flowers, hawthorn and apple turnover, a hint of iodine too. Subtle, the wine is composed yet incisive, fresh and yet profound, with orchard fruit and a citric cut shaping the palate, and notes of verbena and sourdough in support. Expertly crafted and forthright, without indulging to excess, the 2018 is poised and confident but far from brash and with a clear potential to evolve gracefully. The wine broadens beautifully with a little time in the glass, with hints of honey and biscuit evidenced, and will do so equally impressively in bottle over the next five years and beyond. Light yellow. Mineral-tinged peach, melon and pear aromas display excellent clarity, picking up a subtle floral quality with aeration.  Supple and seamless on the palate, offering vivid honeydew and pit fruit flavors accented by a vibrant lemon zest quality.  Finishes very long, silky and precise, with an echo of juicy melon and strong mineral lift. 46. Lilbert Fils Blanc de Blancs Perle
Lilbert Fils Blanc de Blancs Perle
The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Perle Grand Cru is fabulous. A Champagne of uncanny depth and intensity, the Perle is quite structured in this release. White pepper, flowers, crushed rock, mint and lemon peel abound. More than anything else, I am struck by the wines. ANTONIO GALLONI

A lower-pressure cuvée originally inspired by Mumm's erstwhile Crémant de Cramant, it offers up attractive aromas of yellow orchard fruit, sweet citrus, hazelnuts, buttery pastry and flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, pillowy and charming palate that's suave and fleshy, concluding with a saline finish. WILLIAM KELLEY, wineadvocate.com

Bertrand Lilbert's wines have long been insider favourites, particularly the intensely characterful, clean-cut and aromatic Cramant Chardonnay, and the Perle - which follows a tradition in the village of reducing the pressure of the mousse by one third to give finer, creamier bubbles. This hits a sweet spot with its pear, apricot juice and citrus oil intensity, fragrant with jasmine-like florals and rounded out by a third of the blend coming from a perpetual reserve system… TOM HEWSON, decanter.com

    Gosset Grande Rose Brut NV

(58% Chardonnay and 42% Pinot Noir; 3.5 g/l dosage; L329 9160): Light, orange-tinged pink. Lively spice- and mineral-accented red berry and citrus fruits on the nose, with a hint of cherry pit adding depth. Vibrant and precise on the palate, offering tangy, refreshingly bitter-edged blood orange and strawberry flavors. Clean, focused and stony on the dry, penetrating, persistent finish, which leaves a suave honeysuckle note behind. JOSH RAYNOLDS

Subtle nose dominated by baking spices. Strong mousse Rich, frothy and light on its feet. Ultimately a fairly easygoing Champagne, with enticing fruit and a note of fresh coconut. STEPHEN TANZER, Vinous
