The 2021 The Farm Single Vineyard Cabernet Malbec is a singularly impressive wine: it is juicy and vibrant, but it is also layered with spice, rose petals, leaf/bramble and black tea nuance. The wine is detailed, incredibly so for the price (approximately $35AUD), and is possessed of the Clare Valley regional leafiness that so defines the Cabernets (and, to a certain extent, the Malbecs) from here. Craftwork Estate Vineyards Cabernet 2020Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are destemmed, crushed, and fermented in small lots in open top fermenters. Next the firm cap of skins and seeds that bubble up and form on the surface during red fermentation is gently "punched down" several times a day. Punching down is a traditional method that gives the skins as much contact with the fermenting wine as possible, allowing the color and the phenols from the skins to be transferred to the wine. Quealy 'Pobblebonk' 2024Quite possibly the most delicious Pobblebonk to date. Fermented over the course of three weeks – for a riesling – in a 10 degree room and then left to ferment (or to stop fermenting, naturally) over the course of another week, in a 1 degree room. Finished wine has 10 grams/litre residual.There’s decent intensity the the fruit flavour here but it’s mostly defined by its soft, fluid nature, and by the savoury-like notes about the edges. Yes there’s some fruit sweetness here too and it plays its role but it’s a long way from being a dominant factor, other than of course than contributing to the wine’s softness. Pieropan Soave Classico 2023Leonildo ‘Nino’ Pieropan, who sadly passed away in 2018, was the first to show the world just how great Garganega, and Italian white wine, can be. He recognised the importance of terroir early on, acquiring various hillside vineyards (including Pigno, Becco, Boiolo, Tondo, Palestrello and La Santa) and expanding the prestigious Calvarino and La Rocca vineyards, first made as single vineyard crus in 1971 and 1978 respectively.
Today, sons Dario (winemaker) and Andrea (viticulturist) continue the family tradition. The brothers have converted all of their vineyards to organic and are overseeing the new winery being built amongst the vineyards just outside the village.
Mostly Garganega with about 10-15% Trebbiano di Soave, this is wonderfully aromatic - not a common feature of Soave - with floral notes (cherry blossom), citrus, stone fruit and almond. The palate is delicate and focussed, with excellent depth and lovely overall balance.

This wine sits in a range the Blancks call "Les Classiques". These are easy, accessible wines made from the traditional Alsatian grape varieties. They are fruit-driven, aromatic, dry wines that give the best of themselves within the first five to seven years, if you wish to retain their primary fruit-driven personality. The screw cap closure enhances this profile and helps the wines keep both freshness and liveliness far longer. They generally come from light soils with sand and gravel as well as sandstone or clay.

From plantings in the early noughties and a distinct block that sings from a somewhat different hymn book, is the idea.Flavourtown starring riesling! This has width and depth, a sumptuousness yet the tickle of brine and crushed granite minerality feels stippled through the wine. The mainstays are cumquat, green apple, a touch of blackcurrant, even some laid back tropical fruit notes and a squeeze of mandarin. It has that kind of open weave deliciousness and gulpability that urges drinking. Great to see this somewhat jazzy and looser knit riesling from this great producer. All in.
