Le Chiuse
This set of new releases from Le Chiuse really stands out. Both wines—the 2015 Rosso and 2013 Brunello—beautifully capture the soul and quality of those respective (and different) vintages. MONICA LARNER
Although not well-known Le Chiuse is one of the more significant sites in Montalcino. Located to the north of the village the estate sits on the famed Montosoli hill and farms approximately 7 hectares of vines (6 Brunello and 1 Rosso designate). The estate was once part of the famed Biondi-Santi holdings and the vineyards have always provided a significant portion of the Riserva wines for Biondi-Santi.
In 1993 Simonetta Valiani, the great granddaughter of Ferruccio Biondi-Santi, regained full control of the vineyards and with husband Nicolo Magnelli they started to produce wine under the Le Chiuse label. Although made in small quantities and distributed very little outside of Italy Le Chiuse has already garnered a cult following. We are particularly fond of the style here which is at once connected to the unique terroir of this small area in the North of Montlacino but portrays this in such a pure and authentic style. PWS
