When the conductor strikes up the orchestra for this big concerto, every instrument is perfectly in tune. Brilliant mulberry colour, tightly manicured fruit and flower aromas with sooty blackberry notes. Flavours promote a plush mouthfeel that belies the taut structure. While the opening provides a generous embrace, its ironstone heart constrains the back palate, aided by fine tannins and lean acid line that carries a pristine final note far into the distance. (97) DAVID SLY, decanter

Deeply perfumed and brooding with aromas of blood plums, blackberry compote, ironstone, violets, graphite and dried herbs. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with seamless tannins and a creamy texture that carries lingering notes of licorice, black cherries, espresso beans and cassia bark. Another excellent release of this cuvée. Drink or hold. (97) JAMES SUCKLING
