The palate reveals slate-driven sleekness and pure lemon, complemented by serene sweetness that balances the essential saltiness on its superbly linear, elongated body. The 2023 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) is noble and intense yet in a fascinating refined and deep way. The bouquet reveals candied lemon aromas as well as some herbal nuances, such as oregano, and concentrated stone fruit notes. Round, refined and very elegant on the palate, this is a generous, mouth-filling yet also saline and salivating WSU Auslese with a long, intense and stimulating lemon-fresh finish. The wine is beautifully balanced yet still should be cellared for some more years and then enjoyed for decades. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. (98) STEPHEN REIHARDT
