  1. Quinta da Muradella Gorvia Blanco 2018
Quinta da Muradella Gorvia Blanco 2018
Vintages don't necessarily follow in chronological order here, so from the 2014 I tasted last year (which is just being released now!), we jump to the 2018 Gorvia Blanco. This plot had normal yields in 2018, as the development was quite early and the fruit setting was before the problems showed up. This is the first year that has a little Godello, as Mateo replaced the dead vines and regrafted some rows with Godello, so it has a very small percentage (perhaps 5%). This is sharp, austere, mineral and incredibly young, and it finishes with a clean, sharp and precise salty note. This follows the textural direction of the Fisterra, or the wine he bottled for Matador. This should develop in bottle for a long time. He thinks 2014 is starting to show well now, almost six years after the harvest. I think this wine can be enjoyed young, but it will improve and develop a lot in bottle. 2. Trimbach Riesling Frederic Emile 2016 375ml
Trimbach Riesling Frederic Emile 2016 375ml
Luminous straw-yellow. Complex, mint-accented aromas of nectarine, tangerine and powdered stone, plus a hint of licorice. Then bright, juicy and dense, showing outstanding acid-sugar balance and a penetrating juiciness to the stone fruit and herbal flavors. Finishes multilayered and very long, displaying noteworthy clarity and limy cut on the saline finish. Wine lovers everywhere know just how great Frédéric Emile Rieslings can be, but this looks to be a real knockout in the making; I absolutely love this wine's mineral drive and precision. It pulls off the neat trick of being both very ageworthy and also lovely to drink right now. I was happy to know that my palate was still working after an extremely long day of tasting when I told Pierre that in this vintage of Frédéric Emile I found more of the Geisberg than the Osterberg (in most vintages, the wine is a blend of 60/40 Osterberg-Geisberg, at times even 70/30, but this year it's more like 55/45). (97+) IAN D'AGATA, Vinous Media

The lemon-sherbet note here is really beautiful. Then comes a wealth of herbs, ranging from thyme to parsley, with a touch of sea salt, before turning to more floral nuances, such as cherries and almond blossom. The powerful acidity seems to surround the whole mouth and makes this almost like licking a lemon; the unmistakable dryness is all the more enjoyable because of it. Long and very elegant on the finish. STUART PIGOTT

  3. Leo Buring Leonay Eden Valley Maturation Release Riesling 2017
Leo Buring Leonay Eden Valley Maturation Release Riesling 2017

One of the best Leonays for some years. Not every maker got the acidity right in this vintage, wonderful quality awaiting those who did, as you'll find here. Its lime leaf aromas and tinkling acidity are the marks of a wine with a great future. JAMES HALLIDAY

Enchantingly ripe on the nose with evolved aromas of ripe lemon, freshly struck match, tropical fruit and Oriental spice. The palate is gorgeously layered with masterful lingering flavours of juicy mango, succulent kiwi fruit and perky peach. Truly exquisite. INTERNATIONAL WINE & SPIRITS COMPETITION 2020

  4. Burklin Wolf Wachenheimer Riesling 2022
    Burklin Wolf Wachenheimer Riesling 2022
From downgraded premier crus and 80% vinified in large oak casks, the 2022 Wachenheim Riesling Trocken Village is clear and intense but also subtle on the distinctive nose and clearly characterized by the red sandstone soils. This Riesling trocken shows perfectly ripe, very noble and finely flinty fruit intermingled with laurel and celery aromas. Lush and refined on the palate, with lingering salinity and crystalline acidity, this is a very elegant, lush and balanced Wachenheimer with a fine and lively but rested character and a fine, saline finish. 12% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate

The nose blends flinty, reductive verve with apple juiciness before verging into lemony verve. The palate has the same juiciness, with a slight inflection of yeast on the plate, partly pithy, partly zesty, but very fresh. There's tension and creaminess simultaneously, bone-dry and properly mouth-watering. Lovely echo. (Bone-dry) ANNE KREBIEHL MW, Vinous

Benefiting from de-classification of several of Burklin-Wolf's most prestigious G.C. + P.C. vineyards including young vines from GC Goldbachel, this is a classic Pfalz Riesling with depth of flavor, aromatic spice and a soft, voluptuous dry finish. This is always one of the best value rieslings in the range and given its provenence a pretty sure bet.

  5. Quinta da Muradella Gorvia Blanco 2013
Quinta da Muradella Gorvia Blanco 2013

Limpid, yellow-gold. A highly complex, mineral-laced bouquet evokes fresh citrus and orchard fruits, chalky minerals, sweet butter and white flowers. A hint of anise emerges with air. Shows noteworthy depth and sharp delineation in the mouth, offering vibrant orange zest, pear nectar, buttered toast and succulent herb flavors that tighten up slowly on the back half. Powerful, yet graceful in character, displaying superb focus and mineral thrust on an impressively long finish that features lingering floral and orchard fruit flourishes. (Aged in a combination of stainless steel tanks and used 500-liter French oak barrels.) JOSH RAYNOLDS, Vinous.com

  6. Quinta da Muradella Candea Blanco 2020
Quinta da Muradella Candea Blanco 2020

Even the entry-level white 2020 Candea Blanco, a regional blend of equal parts of Dona Blanca, Verdello and Treixadura fermented and kept with lees in stainless steel for one year, shows character, cleanliness, precision and freshness beyond the price point, and it transcends appellation and vintage and is offered with some time in bottle. It has only 12.5% alcohol and an expressive nose of herbs and flowers, and it is balanced, harmonious and elegant and finishes dry and long with a tasty and salty twist. A bargain. 6,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2022. LUIS GUTIERREZ, Wine Advocate
