Petilia Quattro Venti Greco di Tufo Riserva 2020Quite a different beast to the 'entry' Greco offering. There's a palpable intensity, structure and savouriness to the wine. Peach, lemon curd and a refreshing saline grapefruit acidity all in the mix along with a little nutty nuance. The texture starts of creamy and round but is quickly usurped by a wall of drying, pithy tannin which draws everything in at the back leaving dry and lightly bitter, pleasing finish. Pooley Butcher's Hill Riesling 2022Riesling from the Butchers Hill vineyard at Richmond in the Coal River Valley. Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Riesling 2023
One of the very best Isolation Ridge rieslings produced. It’s from an exceptional vintage showing the pristine purity and minerally tension of great rieslings. Comes from a combination of clones planted in 1988. Now this is not your usual riesling. It was left on lees for nine months and about 10% was matured in oak. The result is a wine of tremendous texture, with an intricate weave of fine acid and intensely flavoured fruit. Has a crunchy vibrant minerality on the finish. Exceptional wine. WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - More airy but with depth of aroma too. Extra wide - panoramic - the mineral stature of the last, perhaps faintly more incisive. It's a wine I'd wait longer to open - maybe 3 years to start with - but it's also a great wine. BILL NANSON
OUTSTANDING - A more elegant, airier and more floral-suffused nose combines notes of spiced pear and enough Chablis elements to be more than just interesting. The refined, delicious and caressing, if not quite as concentrated, middle weight flavors possess very good punch on the firm, balanced, moderately dry bitter lemon-inflected finish. This markedly stony, linear and chiseled effort is also quite good and worth considering. BURGHOUND
The 2022 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with touches of frangipane infusing the citrus fruit and hints of dried orange peel coming through with time. The palate is well-balanced with a waxy-textured opening. Good delineation, quite saline, with a twist of sour lemon dovetailing into a slight nutty/smoky note on the finish. One of the finest Premier Crus from Louis Michel. NEAL MARTIN

Bilancia Tiratore Chardonnay 2020
On the nose, there's a cavalcade of white spice, star anise, fennel, clove, jasmine tea and even licorice. Nice. In the mouth, the wine is electrified by scintillating acidity, which helps the fruit really settle onto the tongue and allows the phenolics to create a wide web of texture that coats the palate. This is gently chewy and totally composed. Excellent. This shows what a good vintage with some time in bottle will do. Yes. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. (96+) ERIN LARKIN
Quite a delicate and pure-feeling wine here. Yes, a lilt of clove and cinnamon woody spice overlaid, but more about just ripe citrus characters, Granny Smith apple and almond nutty savouriness than anything, and balanced beautifully to boot. Excellent length, freshness too. A bit of river pebble minerality here also. It’s doing a lot, quietly complex and with good energy. (96) MIKE BENNIE
I hope you’ll find the bouquet of this wine as intriguing as I did. Mineral with pure citrus fruit scents, a dense, almost nutty lees quality, orchard fruits and fine oak. Complex and quite delicious on the palate, too – texture then a core of fruit, a fine acid line and layers of fine older barrel. Fine-tannin chalky texture with a flinty, edgy quality. Fresh and delicious to drink now, but will develop more complexity. Overall this wine is new so give it time please to let the oak integrate and calm. Behind this though is the power of ripe fruit and acidity, a fantastic base line structure, long finish and promise. (96) CAMERON DOUGLAS MS
Tiratore is Italian for marksman. The La Collina vineyard was once a rifle range. Ripe, lush and peachy chardonnay with apple, nectarine, hazelnut, toast and spicy oak flavours. The texture is a masterful mix of seductive silkiness and fine peppery tannins, which act as a sort of reinforcing iron. A terrific chardonnay with a bright future. Crawford River Museum Release Riesling 2017
All the wine is bottled at once, then matured in cellar for these museum releases. This was 100% whole bunch pressed, left on lees for six weeks. There’s no ‘Museum Release’ notification on the bottle, which would be nice for those who have cellared their own and now maybe buying this, but hey, a quibble!
Wow stuff. The measure of freshness, crisp, crunchy acidity and the benign decay on hand, is stunning. Waxy texture with glassy edges, an almost honey nut cornflake character married to brown lime, ginger biscuit, green apple, pink grapefruit. There’s savouriness rolling through, light toffee sweetness, the friskiness of briny minerality too. It paints a picture in layers and texture, energy and depth. An almost prickly hiss of fizz under everything. The drinkability is through the roof. Alongside, a distinct feel of complexity; the essence of that that there is concentration of fruit and age, a wonderful mesh of the maturing characters alongside inherent brightness and lift. Sheesh. At six years of age, this is at that perfect intersection of bright primary aromas (citrus zest and makrut lime leaves) with slowly emerging bottle age and subtle lemon butter on toast notes. Bannockburn Riesling 2024
Made mainly from 0.4ha of vines planted in 1976. A pure and quite lovely nose featuring scents of Meyer lemon, makrut lime leaves and floral notes. The palate is linear, chalky and long with the fruit and acidity in perfect harmony. I'm thinking san choy bow would be a great match. I'm guessing it'll age superbly, too. It’s grown mostly on vines planted in 1976 at Bannockburn near Geelong.As far as I know this doesn’t see oak but it still feels noticeably textural. It’s cut with citrussy flavours but the main characters here are steel and tonic. It’s dry, almost gravelly, almost stony, with a herbs-dipped-in-woodsmoke-and-brine side. [PREVIOUS VINTAGE] Apple, honey and herbs, a light chamomile perfume too. It has some honeyed gloss, but also a juicy citrus bite, fine powdery texture which offers gentle grip, some almond, saline things, and a gently waxy finish offering brightness and herbal perfume and some lemon zest bitterness. Jo Landron Amphibolite Muscadet 2021
Biodynamic. One of Landron's emblematic cuvées, Amphibolite, takes its name from the greenish, metamorphic bedrock (amphibolite) where this wine is grown. Produced from vines aged between 35 and 40 years, this was vinified with only a short period on lees, as Jo Landron wants to retain as much freshness and minerality as possible. “It's a free-spirited-muscadet,” he says. Only minor doses of sulfur are used to block malolactic conversion. Bottling without filtration occurs early (in March) to retain the wine's earth-to-glass essence.
With some lovely textural padding this year, it's an ultra-pure, racy expression of Muscadet loaded with white floral notes and all kinds of citrus underpinned by the briny, iodine minerality that is a hallmark of this cuvée. Sculpted and steely, it's all salted apple and spring flower, penetrating acidity binding the mouthwatering tension to the wine's well-honed texture. A classic Landron!

Voyager Estate Chardonnay 2023This is the best Voyager chardonnay in yonks. It's all by degrees of course but every degree in wine is hard won. This wine has flavour and texture but it's the length that gets you going. It shows smoke characters, grilled peach, lemon curd and a jasmine element. There are flint notes here, as a whisper - which is interesting, because Voyager Chardonnay generally doesn't or hasn't shown flint characters in the past. It works here. 2023 was Shand's first full vintage in charge of Voyager's winemaking and if this wine is an indication, we're in for a ride. (95) CAMPBELL MATTINSON
Tim Shand has made such a profound impact since taking over as winemaker in '22 and while it's early days, gee what's on offer looks very, very good. Vintage '23 is his first complete harvest. Already subtlety is apparent, although plenty of flavour here with stone fruit and citrus, wafts of lemon verbena and celery seed. It's flinty, spicy and creamy with nutty lees. This is moreish and the savoury edge comes through in tandem with tangy and juicy acidity, and almost a pop of saline tang to finish. Impressive. (95) JANE FAULKNER, James Halliday's Wine Companion

A step up in quality and intensity, but also a bity more tightly wound than the Village wine. Also, more awash with minerality, bordering on estuarine (a character I love with these wines), and that really brings the Chabliness to the fore. Along with a crisp, but ripe, array of fruit a little grip and a crunch of acidity, this is pretty textbook Fourchaume from Chantemerle and I think will expand well with a few years in the cellar, but that ample fruit and weight provides a tonne of upfront pleasure in the early days. The 23 is built on ease of operation. Slightly more forward than the 2022 with a solid push of fruit, plenty of citrus zest, green apple and edging on some more ripe, seemingly juicy characters that expand out nicely. Punchy acidity freshens things up and the all too important salty twang, that we expect from Chantemerle, makes itself known throughout. Like all of Boudin's wines the balance is what will carry it in the cellar, if required, but for me this is right in the zone for more early drinking. Typically excellent. ROSCOE

Chateau Fuisse Pouilly Fuisse Le Clos Premier Cru 2022Best In Show Decanter World Wine Awards. The vineyards themselves, of course, have been there for centuries, so in terms of aroma, flavour and weight nothing has changed: Pouilly-Fuissé was always one of the most generously contoured white wines in Burgundy, and it remains so. Premier Cru, though, provides an opportunity for the spotlight to swing onto individual sites. This site is clearly outstanding: wealth, warmth and comfort sings out of the glass of this pale gold wine. It's mouthfilling, broad and amply articulated, rich with a high-summer generosity of nuts, grasses, straw and pounded hazels and almonds; the finish is long, vinous, broad but finally neatly tailored... A benchmark example of this unique and much-loved appellation in an enduring and alluring vintage. (97) DECANTER
OUTSTANDING - This also exhibits generous wood and a more subtle touch of vanilla on the very ripe but not really exotic menthol and citrus-suffused aromas that are similar if a bit more floral in character. The finer if less powerful middle weight flavors exude fine minerality on the compact and impressively long... This lovely effort does need to develop better depth and it's presently a bit woody but the potential is clearly present. BURGHOUND
A shy nose but open and with fine clarity - there's more minerality hinted at here - subtly floral perfumed too. By far the most mouth-filling but fluid wine so far. Mouth-watering and tasty - silky wine with an obvious middle concentration - the vibrantly, almost extravagantly finishing with width and sustained complexity. Louis Michel Chablis Premier Cru Butteaux Vielles Vignes 2022
WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - Less impact than Sechets but more perfumed and floral. Ooh! That's got so much volume that I question how it can also be so incisive. Pure but concentrated - the fluidity of this meaning you hardly note the generosity of the wine. Slowly fading - actually quite a discreet finish vs the rest of the wine - but no less persistent than the wines around it I think. That will be a great one too. BILL NANSON
OUTSTANDING - This is similar to the regular cuvée except that it seems ever-so-slightly riper. By contrast, there is better concentration and power to the medium-bodied flavors and, somewhat unusually, the mouthfeel is finer as well, particularly on the more complex if also more austere finale. The 2022 Chablis Butteaux Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru comes from vines around 70 years old, only slightly older than the regular cuvée, but on different soils (white clay rather than brown with high fossil content). It is usually bottled slightly later. The nose is a little more expressive with hints of red cherries and peach skin - very well defined. The palate is well-balanced with more harmony than the regular cuvée, a crisp line of acidity and touches of oyster shell on the saline finish. Great persistence here. Excellent. NEAL MARTIN

WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - Hmm - this has beautiful dimensions of aroma and is more demonstrative than the MdT today - great. Also wow in the mouth - intense but wide-screen in flavour. OUTSTANDING - A restrained if vaguely exotic nose grudgingly offers up its aromas of white peach, citrus confit, lychee and quinine. There is fine intensity to the equally well-detailed and even more mineral-driven middleweight flavors that exhibit very good persistence on the balanced and nicely dry finale. This highly refreshing, though presently somewhat linear, effort could use better depth so again, a few years of keeping should prove beneficial. BURGHOUND
The 2022 Chablis Séchets 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet with orange blossom plus touches of beeswax that gains intensity with aeration. The palate is well-balanced, with a lightly spiced entry and fine depth. It is quite saline in the mouth, with a slice of sour lemon lending tension towards the finish. SWEET SPOT - A vague whiff of the exotic lurks in the background of the aroma of dried orange peel, lemon confit, mineral reduction and an interesting hint of star anise. There is both excellent volume and intensity yet a similar degree of refinement to the equally stony and impressively long finish where an even more prominent bitter lemon character is present. Lovely though patience is strongly advised. BURGHOUND
The 2022 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru comes from two parcels on the north-facing part of the climat, 60- and 70-year-old vines. It has a poised and focused bouquet with hints of white peach and praline infusing the minerally scents. Very composed and understated at first before gaining more intensity. The palate is well-balanced with tangy marmalade and quince, lovely depth and cohesion, equidistant between classicism and the generous, almost tropical nature of the 2022 vintage. Louis Michel Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles 2022
WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - A deep, quite vertical nose - a rare 2022 with some lime complexity. Really mineral, but fluid despite the extract here - intense, lots of citrus complexity, still with that accent of lime. Slowly fading - I love it - and I'd possibly keep it longer than either of the GCs that bookend it! BILL NANSON
SWEET SPOT - A ripe yet cooler nose is comprised by notes of green apple, citrus peel and iodine. The sleek, delicious and impressively constituted full-bodied flavors possess good richness and a very generous mouthfeel while concluding in a compact, youthfully austere and equally persistent finish. Here too at least some patience is strongly counseled. BURGHOUND
The 2022 Chablis Grenouilles Grand Cru comes from a single 0.58-hectare parcel of vines at the top of the climat. The backward, quite austere bouquet lacks the amplitude of the best Premier Crus. Louis Michel Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2022
WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - Almost a little fumé accent to this minerality - slowly opening with floral notes and more overt citrus. Largest scale in the mouth - but fluid and mineral - not a wine of density. The base is of a fine energy. The width of finishing flavour a wave of salinity. That's going to be quite a wine - if you have the time, wait 10 years! Bravo! BILL NANSON
DON'T MISS - A more restrained and equally cool nose grudgingly reveals its aromas of oyster shell, ocean spray, just sliced citrus and wet stone. There is again excellent volume and a sappy texture to the almost painfully intense and overtly powerful larger-bodied flavors that brim with minerality that adds a sense of lift to the compact, dry and sneaky long finish. Like all fine examples of Les Clos, this is clearly going to need at least 6 to 8 years of bottle aging and should amply repay 10 to 12. BURGHOUND
The 2022 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru comes from a single 0.58-hectare parcel located midway up the incline towards Valmur. This expressive bouquet has yellow plum, wet stone and light hazelnut aromas, oddly reminding me of a fine Meursault! The well-balanced palate is taut and fresh, with a fine line of acidity and a malic finish that is more austere than the aromatics suggest. NEAL MARTIN

Fragrant and lifted aromas of Packham pear, baked apple, melon skin, white-stone fruit and sweet spice. Fleshy, textured, bright and crunchy. There's a lovely drive of pear, nectarine and some textured, grippy phenolics. Long and very satisfying THE REAL REVIEW
This is a punter friendly wine if ever there was one. It's fruity, it's soft, it's delicious. Sweet pear and red apple flavour do all the work, and very pleasant work it is too. This wine is simple in the most untaxing and pleasurable of ways. CAMPBELL MATTINSON

Mulline Sutherlands Creek Riesling 2023
Picked, pressed and fermented cold at 10 degrees and aged on lees for three months; 10g/RS. A very bright green gold. An engaging bouquet of fresh lime juice, orange rind, makrut lime leaf and some spice. Gently textured with the RS judged to perfection, in that it's there, but you barely notice it. Fermented over the course of three weeks – for a riesling – in a 10 degree room and then left to ferment (or to stop fermenting, naturally) over the course of another week, in a 1 degree room. Finished wine has 10 grams/litre residual.There’s decent intensity the the fruit flavour here but it’s mostly defined by its soft, fluid nature, and by the savoury-like notes about the edges. Yes there’s some fruit sweetness here too and it plays its role but it’s a long way from being a dominant factor, other than of course than contributing to the wine’s softness. Lethbridge Dr Nadeson Riesling 2023Matured in older foudre. A very bright green gold. A slightly different but superb rendition of Henty Riesling. A penetrating nose with its core of citrus fruits, floral notes and crushed rock. There's a hint of sweetness, but this is essentially a dry wine, with mouth-tingling and invigorating acidity ensuring it's balanced and fresh. I liked this. A lot. From a block planted in '00/'01 on loam-dominant soils. A very bright green gold. Aromatic with classic citrus fruits together with some white peach, ripe pear, orange blossom and jasmine. From plantings in the early noughties and a distinct block that sings from a somewhat different hymn book, is the idea.Flavourtown starring riesling! This has width and depth, a sumptuousness yet the tickle of brine and crushed granite minerality feels stippled through the wine. The mainstays are cumquat, green apple, a touch of blackcurrant, even some laid back tropical fruit notes and a squeeze of mandarin. It has that kind of open weave deliciousness and gulpability that urges drinking. Great to see this somewhat jazzy and looser knit riesling from this great producer. All in.
