  1. Schmolzer and Brown Beechworth Pinot Noir 2022
Schmolzer and Brown Beechworth Pinot Noir 2022

Part of our new high-altitude Beechworth range. A brand-new Pinot Noir for us. An earlier drinking blend comprised of sites across Beechworth, predominantly from our new high-altitude Palmer vineyard in the heart of Stanley. Selections from Brunnen and Indigo vineyards provide a lovely combination of spice and plush red fruit.

A cool growing season, with ample time for flavour development. Whole berry ferment with gentle maceration, this wine is concentrated and complex yet shows the bright acidity and delicacy of high-altitude Pinot Noir. Savoury spice and tart red fruit softened by a subtle 15% new oak component.

  2. Tomfoolery Burla Negra Tempranillo 2022
    Tomfoolery Burla Negra Tempranillo 2022

The fruit from selected vineyards is hand picked and fermented in small open fermenters, which are pumped over by hand twice daily to maximize oxygenation and purity of fermentation. Once the wine is dry it is then gently basket pressed minimizing the extraction of harsh extractive tannins. Matured for 12 months in seasoned French oak barriques.

Characteristic cherry aromas with dried herbs. This seafarin’ wine fires cannonballs of red cherry fruit across the bow with a herby oak lift before walking the plank of fine acid balanced with rich texture, scuttled with a ballast of grainy tannins.

  3. Allevare Novello Cabernet Franc 2022
    Allevare Novello Cabernet Franc 2022

A Novello style red, perfect chilled or at room temperature. Wild fermented in stainless steel tank, the fruit was left on skins for 2 weeks with light pump overs morning and evenings. It was then pressed to tank and left on lees for 6 months before bottling on Gunaikurnai Land.

Grown in the Shelmerdine Vineyard, red and brown sandy clay loams of south-eastern Australia, plus yellow-brown clay loams and gritty, gravelly quartzose sands laid down by the Goulburn River. An historic wine growing region, heat is mitigated by the amundant lakes and billabongs associated with the Goulburn Valley region. ALLEVARE

  5. Hobo Wine Camp Folk Machine Parts and Labour Red 2022
Hobo Wine Camp Folk Machine Parts and Labour Red 2022
This is the second vintage that Grenache has dominated the P&L blend. The 2022 is a blend of Grenache from Mangels Ranch in Suisun Valley, Cedar Lane in Arroyo Seco, and Waddington Ranch in Mendocino, Carignane from Lolonis, Maria Martinson, and Castañon all in Mendocino, and Syrah from Vecino in Potter Valley. There is a good amount of whole cluster and carbonic maceration through the lots keeping everything fresh and fun. As always, the blend was made immediately after harvest and the wine was aged in a combination of French oak foudres and stainless steel tanks.

Oh yum! This is such a joy to drink. A cracking drop here from the legend that is Kenny likitprakong of Hobo. He was telling us that this was his house wine. The one that he has cases of to rip the corks off when mates come round, the BBQ fires up and a long warm weekend is about a kick off and we can see why. This is hard to put down once it's in your glass.

It's all about the red fruits here with fresh picked red cherry and raspberry all vying for position at the front of the pack. Some pretty violet notes swirl around and as this opens up some savoury whole black peppercorn and foresty bits make themselves heard. Its lithe and fresh bursting onto the palate with that core of red berry fruit. Clean and pure just sizzling with energy. A joy to drink and would happily take a brief chill if you were so inclined.

  6. The Story Wines Moyston Hills Syrah 2021
The Story Wines Moyston Hills Syrah 2021
As a rule The Story buys grapes in, usually on the back of long term relationships, but this wine comes from Rory Lane's first venture into vineyard ownership. He's bought grapes from this vineyard in the past, though over the past 10+ years it's largely been contracted to Mount Langi Ghiran. He's now running the vineyard organically. Exciting times. This release saw 30% whole bunches, wild ferment, three weeks on skins and maturation in 3000 litre foudre.
It's deliciously (black) peppery and ripped with bright, berried fruit. If you like Grampians shiraz/syrah you will love this. It's medium-bodied, bunchy, savoury and just all-around adult, though the fruit is perfectly well ripened and velvety with it. Walnut-edged tannins pull the curtain on a terrific show if pepper and fruit. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, winefront.com

It certainly projects plenty of the spicy stuff - pepper, fennel seed, bay leaf, rosemary - but there's more to laud. Works a fine-textured tannin riff through dark cherry, plum and dusty cacao, finishing with a lasting, gentle savouriness. Dances rather than glides. Delicious. JENI PORT, winecompanion.com

  7. The Story Wines Super G Red Blend 2022
The Story Wines Super G Red Blend 2022
It's not heavy but it's so wild with spice and so generally captivating that it's hard to put it down. This is a cracker of a wine. Red and blue berried fruit flavours, black pepper notes, a mezcal aspect and flings of roasted nuts. It's ripe and robust, in a mid-weight way, but the real key here is that it's aflame with roasted spice/pepper notes. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, winecompanion.com

  8. Izway Rob and Les Shiraz 2022
Izway Rob and Les Shiraz 2022

Aged in seasoned French oak and with a minimal intervention approach to winemaking, the vibrant, fresh and pure varietal characteristics of Shiraz are allowed to shine in this classic Barossan wine.
The Rob & Les is sourced primarily from two vineyards; the Kalleske Hillside Vineyard and the Hoffmann Mickans Vineyard, both located in the north of the Barossa Valley. These sites are on the famed red clays of the North, giving the wine a structure and elegance that is a hallmark of this special locale. These two vineyards complement each other perfectly and combine to produce a wine that has personality and drinkability

  9. Fontareche Corbieres Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2022
Fontareche Corbieres Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2022
The Fontarèche property, at the heart of Corbiere in Languedoc-Roussillon, has a long, illustrious and noble history dating back to 1201. Current proprietor, Jacques de Lamy took over from his father, Count Edouard de Lamy in 1957 where the de Lamy family has been in charge of the property since 1682. The estate works with 17 grape varieties, but Carignan is their jewel in the crown. The vines are planted to the semi-desert Mediterranean climate trapped between the Atlantic and Mediterranean. The Atlantic breezes funnel through the mountain ranges that form the backdrop of the region and help to temper the summer heat in the vineyards retaining freshness and vibrancy in the wines.

Wonderfully lifted notes of violets, mulberry and blue fruits all underlined with gentle minerality. The palate is brimming with a core of dark fruits that come together nicely with a focused and energetic finish. It really is surprising the level of subtle complexity at this price point that remains so easy to drink at the same time

  10. Warramate Pinot Noir 2022
    Warramate Pinot Noir 2022
From a 2ha plot planted in 2000. Some whole bunches. Matured in French hogsheads (20% new). A very bright crimson red. Just bottled. A very primary bouquet redolent of freshly picked cherries, ripe raspberries and a little bitter blood orange. Punchy and with loads of flavour and ripe tannins. This will merit an even better score, I'd imagine, in six to 12 months. Great value from the team at Yarra Yering. (93) PHILIP RICH, winecompanion.com

  11. Bondar Junto GSM 2022
    Bondar Junto GSM 2022
A great makeup of majority grenache (62%) with a smattering of shiraz, mataro and cinsault, reminiscent of a classic southern Rhône blend, albeit, with a lighter touch. As good, too. Effusive blue- and red-fruit allusions teem along rails of gentle tannins, a burr of whole-bunch spice as seasoning. A sweep of maritime salinity at the finish. Such a complete and joyous wine, light of feel. It would be churlish not to drink a great deal of it. NED GOODWIN, James Halliday

"There must be a bit of magic behind Bondar. All of the wines have an ethereal quality"- JANE FAULKNER, James Halliday Wine Companion 2018

We can't agree more. What Adre has created here in such a short time is impressive. His wines always display a wonderful transparency to site while never shying away from sweet open fruit profiles. However, the never lack any sense of complexity and depth despite their easy-going nature. I am not sure subtle is quite the right word but maybe an understated ease better describes what is going on here. Whatever it is, it works, and his numerous nominations, rewards and accolades are testament that he is doing something very right.

  12. Giant Steps Sexton Pinot Noir 2022
Giant Steps Sexton Pinot Noir 2022
From the Sexton vineyard in Gruyere. Destemmed with whole berries and matured nine months in French barriques (20% new). A deep ruby crimson. The densest and most brooding of the Giant Steps Yarra Valley single-vineyard pinots from 2022. You'll find bramble berries, freshly ploughed earth and a little black pepper. Savoury and concentrated on the palate, there is plenty of meat on the bones with substantial and persistent tannins masked by the sheer weight of plush fruit at this stage. A succulent wine to enjoy now and over the next few years.  (96) PHILIP RICH, Wine Companion

Hentley Farm Villain & Vixen Mataro 2022
A mostly dry Summer and Autumn, the favoured conditons during growing season, have been ideal with mild daytime temperatures and cool nights promoting long, even ripening and extended flavour development. The reds from the Barossa region during this vintage possess incredible flavour concentration, natural high acidity and superb structure and balance.

Sourced from a single vineyard in Krondorf, the fruit was hand picked with 50% remaining as whole bunch. Cultured fermentation lasted for 10 days. The wine was gently pressed off skins into seasoned French oak casks for 15 months.

Head Wines Old Vine Grenache 2022
Raspberry, cherry, almond, a little spice, dried rose perfume, incense and aniseed. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and red fruited, distinctly nutty with hazelnut and almond, lovely fine crunch to acidity, dense but silky emery board tannin, and a finish of impeccable length. It’s a superb expression of old vine Grenache, and so beautifully made. GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

  15. Torbreck Hillside Shiraz Roussanne 2022
    Torbreck Hillside Shiraz Roussanne 2022

The Hillside vineyard was established near the town of Lyndoch in the south western corner of the Barossa Valley in 1849 by the Springbett family with vines were planted in 1850 to Shiraz and Grenache. Torbreck acquired the property in 2002 and set about resurrecting the old vines, planting new vineyards and restoring the charming historic ironstone buildings. \

Due to the success in co-fermenting Shiraz and Viognier, they thought it would be interesting to co-ferment the skins from Roussanne with Shiraz. Once the juice was gently whole bunch pressed from the Roussanne grapes, the skins were added to the Shiraz and co-fermented.

  16. Guido Porro Langhe Nebbiolo Camilu 2022
Guido Porro Langhe Nebbiolo Camilu 2022

The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo Camilu from Guido Porro boasts delicious flavors of ripe dark-skinned berry, cinnamon and crushed mint. Despite it's concentration and body, it boasts lithe tannins that give lend a weightless polish. Drink through 2027. KERIN O'KEEFE

From the dry vintage of 2022, the intensity has been amped here. In the hands of the Porro's they've injected buoyancy and delineation to the sweetly spiced red fruits which are tempered by some earthy notes of mulch. The pedigree of the fruit is on show, this is from a subplot within their mighty Lazzarito Cru. Cascading tannins envelope the delicious core, signing off with a cheek-puckering signature reminding you that this is a fragrant and youthful nebbiolo. GABRIELLE POY

  20. Rouleur 'Cobber Carbonic' Cabernet Shiraz 2022
Rouleur 'Cobber Carbonic' Cabernet Shiraz 2022
Fruit is 100% sourced from a single 28 year old vineyard on the western edge of the Yarra Valley. A tightly wound nose that opens gradually. There's violets, plum and dried herbs. Hints of bramble and spice in sync with the fruit, adding complexity and style. This is a ‘moderately bunchy’ wine, there’s a candyness to the fruit, and nori at the same time. Palate is mid weight and long with dark cherries into lush red fruits with ribena-like mouth perfume too. The tannins are graphite and broadspread, while the acid is bright and mouth watering. Delicious now, but will cellar well over the next 7 years plus. ROULEUR WINES

  21. Yalumba Vine Vale Grenache 2022
    Yalumba Vine Vale Grenache 2022

SPECIAL VALUE - Vine Vale has a solid reputation for producing outstanding grenache. With sandy soils lying in the lee of the eastern range, the fruit produces wines of great perfume, which of course is what the variety is all about. Old vines here (1929 and 1949 plantings) and the glory of whole bunch fermentation on full display. Fragrant and great drinking with supple red cherry, dark plum and raspberry fruits cut with exotic spice, citrus blossom, Campari-esque tones, cola, gingerbread and earth. Savoury and composed with super-powdery tannins and a spicy, red-fruited exit with just a hint of roasting meats. Geez, grenache is great drinking. (95) JAMES HALLIDAY’S WINE COMPANION

Sultry little thing aren’t you! What’s that? What did you say to me? Drink another glass? I can’t, it’s a work night… Are you sure I will feel better if I do? Ok, you convinced me…

Wait, where did the bottle go? Ah Grenache, you tricked me again. I guess I should open a second, it’s still early. A little insight in to my brain.

Seriously?????though, I think bottles of this wine are prone to evaporation. It’s all too alluring with those soaring aromatics, perfumed red berries, some wild herbs, a whisp of mint some underbrush brought to you buy the 20 something percent whole bunch. Shapely and sumptuous wine that is much darker in the mouth where it builds in volume to fill the palate with creamy, sweet, succulent fruit supported by a fine network of tannins with just enough grip to keep things serious but not intrusive. Finishes more savoury and those characters come out to play a little more with some air too.

A wholly and thoroughly convincing rendition of modern Australian Grenache that over delivers in every conceivable way. Well done and thank you Yalumba. ROSCOE
