Descendientes de Jose Palacios La Faraona Mencia 2011
Depp, bright purple.  Drop-dead aromas of dark berry preserves, Asian spice, potpourri and incense, with an intense mineral overtone.  Stains the palate with sappy, chewy black raspberry and floral pastille flavors enlivened by notes of allspice, star anise and nutmeg.  Silky, sweet and penetrating on the finish, which clings with outstanding tenacity and clarity.  There's an elegance and focus here that's reminiscent of the best Burgundies, but with more power and texture.  If I were a third-world despot this is what I'd be drinking every day. 2. de Vogue Musigny VV 2011
    de Vogue Musigny VV 2011

A remarkably, and most attractively, cool and restrained nose of various red berries, spice and a beautiful array of floral elements complements well the rich and equally cool mineral-tinged big-bodied and overtly muscular flavors that possess a really lovely sense of underlying tension on the clean and pure finish that delivers strikingly good length. This is also clean and firm but with slightly better phenolic maturity to the supporting structural elements which should allow this beauty to age successfully for many years to come.  BURGHOUND

Saturated dark red.  Fully ripe aromas of black raspberry, crushed stone, mocha, chocolate and spices.  Horizontal on the attack, then superrich yet somehow vibrant too, showing excellent lift to the palate-saturating flavors of cassis, pomegranate and spices.  Shows a jellied sweetness cut by a taste of limestone.  Finishes savory, sweet and very long, with noble tannins and a piquant hint of red grapefruit.  Really leaves the taste buds quivering.  STEPHEN TANZER

  3. Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque 2011
Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque 2011
Deeper in color than the la Mouline, the deep ruby/purple 2011 Cote Rotie la Turque offers more dark fruits, tapenade, graphite and spice in its meaty, truffle, black olive-scented personality. Gorgeously pure and full-bodied, it opens up beautifully with time in the glass, has incredible purity, no hard edges, killer length and an already hard to resist personality. Despite this, is has the tannic backbone, acidity and balance to evolve for three decades. ROBERT PARKER
