  1. Casa Rojo La Vinas Bastardas Red Blend 2020
Casa Rojo La Vinas Bastardas Red Blend 2020

A mix of high altitude vines and  unique terroir with poor lime and clay soils, united to extreme weather conditions and dry agriculture that provides low yields and high concentration in the fruit. Spends about 5 months in French oak.

Glace cherry and red fruits overlay a bed of black currant and blackberry fruits with a soft peppercorn spice and a touch of licorice. So vibrant and fresh that builds slowly with a mix of wild forest fruit and grilled herbs. Fine tannins cut the sweet fruit and a gentle kiss of oak gives it all a last little push on the long finish

Casa Rojo Enemigo Mio Garnacha 2021

100% Garnacha from a single 4-hectare vineyard at the foot of the Sierra de La Pila, just in front of the winery The age of the vineyard is 5 years old and it is 100% property with north orientation and fresh clay soil.

Crushed raspberry and wild bracken with a hint of charry earthy that provides a counterpoint to the fresh fruit. A lovely combo of sweet and savoury that follows on the palate with a playful back and fourth between the clean red fruits and wild cherry notes. Firm and snappy with a fine cut to the tannins.

  3. Casa Rojo Machoman Tierra de Murcia Monastrell 2020
Casa Rojo Machoman Tierra de Murcia Monastrell 2020

Big fan of Jumilla Monastrell, there's great Monastrell made in Spain, with a ton of character. This particular Monastrell; concentrated with red and dark berries, balanced with a touch of chocolate and savoury components. Great wine and food pairing!  NICK CAPEL, PWS SYDNEY

The grapes are from 13 plots of Monastrell vineyards in La Raja (where the winery is located) between the mountain ranges of El Carche and La Pila. The vines range from 20 to 70 years old sitting at 800 metres, within the wine region D.O. Jumilla, in the south of Spain. Steel tank ferment with 5 months in small French oak.

Red licorice, pastille fruits, and a hint of charry savouriness and scorched earth layered in with sweet, heady spice. Black cherry, black raspberry fruit paint the palate then slowly melt away to reveal spice box and savory herbs then rushes back in with plum, blackberry compote, blueberrie, and blackcurrant that bring the finale to a luxurious finish that trails off with some dark chocolate, and tobacco.

  4. Casa Castillo La Tendida Monastrell 2020
Casa Castillo La Tendida Monastrell 2020

The 2020 La Tendida is a new wine from 85% Monastrell from younger vines in the paraje (lieu-dit) La Tendida within the property and 15% Garnacha from seven-year-old plants on a north-facing slope on sandy limestone soils covered in gravel in 2020. Here, they changed the concept, prioritizing location of the vines instead of age, so they used younger vines but from better soils. So, this is a different wine from the Vino de Finca, and some of the old vines that had been used for the Vino de Finca go back to the basic Monastrell instead of coming here. Like most wines in this pure Mediterranean vintage, it fermented with 25% to 30% full clusters and indigenous yeast in underground stone pools with a short to medium maceration and temperatures up to 32 degrees Celsius. The wine spent 12 months in a combination of 500-liter barrels and 5,000-liter oak vats. Most wines in 2020 are around 14.5% alcohol and have a medium pH of 3.55 and mellow acidity (4.85 grams, measured in tartaric acid per liter). It's young and tender but more elegant, subtle but nuanced and very precise. The wine is medium-bodied, the tannins are very fine and there is a sensation of fragility but with energy and strength, a red with light. Very Casa Castillo. 40,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2022. LUIS GUITIERREZ, Wine Advocate.

  5. Casa Castillo El Molar Garnacha 2021
Casa Castillo El Molar Garnacha 2021

Casa Castillo El Molar is a red wine from Jumilla prepared by the Finca Casa Castillo winery. It is a varietal Grenache. The grapes used for this wine are collected from fields located in trellises on the upland slopes of the Sierra del Molar. The climate is continental and Mediterranean and the vineyards, which grow on calcareous soils, were planted in 2005.

Alcoholic fermentation, which is carried out for two weeks at temperature of 30 degrees, is performed in open vats under the ground before maceration takes place without the skins. The subsequent malolactic fermentation takes place in foudres in contact with the lees. The wine is aged for 12 months. The typical dryness of Jumilla, located in Murcia, along with low temperatures means that there are low levels of production yet with a high concentration.
