  1. Chateau Coupe Roses Les Plots 2019
Chateau Coupe Roses Les Plots 2019
This family affair is a talented one with Françoise Frissant an agronomistand Mathias Paicheler, Sarah Frissant and Pascal Frissant all Oenologists. Today the vineyard holdings total 143 acres with an assortment of some 40 plots in total. At 750 - 1350 ft above sea level these are some of the highest sites in the AOC. The warm days and cool nights result in one the longest growing seasons in the region. Incredibly, they are often picking two weeks behind the rest of the low-lying vineyards that surround them.

Hand harvested and 100% de-stemmed blend of Syrah, Grenache and a touch of Carignan. This sees no oak with 1 year in stainless steel. A lovely lifted violet flecked nose that's pretty and perfumed, full of brambly wild red and black fruits that are jubey and bright. It's super enticing and delivers on the palate with the same colour scheme of wild fruits. It's mid-weight and nicely poised with fine grained tannins that melt away into the long finish. Holds itself nicely with a bounce in its step.

  2. De Bortoli 'Burgoyne's Block' Mourvedre Shiraz Grenache 2021
De Bortoli 'Burgoyne's Block' Mourvedre Shiraz Grenache 2021

A typical Rhône blend of mourvèdre, shiraz and grenache that captures the juicy affability of the style. Deeply coloured with the rising scent of blackberry, mulberry, plum, vanilla and gently nutty spice. Impressive depth with sturdy, free-flowing tannins and balance. JENI PORT, James Halliday

What can we say about De Bortoli and the quality they punch out for often what seems like ridiculous pricing? Well we are not complaining. And hey have done it again.

The Mourvedre and Grenache are grown on the DeBortoli Shelley’s Vineyard on the eastern edge of the Rutherglen region. The Shiraz comes from Burgoyne’s Block on a west facing slopes which helps to concentrate the Shiraz flavours. Alluring aromas and flavours of spice, cherry and red berry fruits. This full flavoured, medium bodied, well balanced blend finishes smoothly and is further enhanced by hints of French oak.

  3. Delas Cote du Rhone Saint Esprit 2021
Delas Cote du Rhone Saint Esprit 2021

One of our favourite rhone reds year-in and year-out. There may be nothing quite as satisfying as a good value Rhone red and this one always delivers. Delas Freres is based in the beautiful northern Rhone with a large holding of their own vineyards supplemented by long-term relationships with quality growers all over the rhone. How they manage to put so much goodness into a bottle at this price is an astonishing feat to say the least.

While this indulgent red reflects the north’s regional dominance of Shiraz over Grenache, it reflects the darker fruits and a spicy earthiness often found in the southern Rhone, where this wine hails from. Silky rather than heavy, it still feels concentrated with bright, bubbly raspberry fruits complimented by a little dollop of wild, blackberry fruit. A waft of violets and pastille fruit just add to its appeal.

  4. The Story Wines Super G Red Blend 2022
The Story Wines Super G Red Blend 2022
It's not heavy but it's so wild with spice and so generally captivating that it's hard to put it down. This is a cracker of a wine. Red and blue berried fruit flavours, black pepper notes, a mezcal aspect and flings of roasted nuts. It's ripe and robust, in a mid-weight way, but the real key here is that it's aflame with roasted spice/pepper notes. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, winecompanion.com

  5. Delas Cote du Rhone Ventoux 2021
Delas Cote du Rhone Ventoux 2021
Delas Freres is a winery of tradition and renewal. Founded 160 years ago in the heart of the northern Côtes du Rhône, Delas wines are crafted by a panel of experts headed by winemaker Jacques Grange. Together, the team makes wines that have been heralded for their intensity of flavour and excellent value. Delas maintains a philosophy of preserving the authentic characteristics of each appellation through separate vinification of the fruit from each vineyard.

The Ventoux form Delas is always in a slightly lighter fresher style. We feel like it often gets over looked but from year to year it offers up the same quality and drinking pleasure of Delas' other rhone bottlings. Here, a little more red cherry and currant fruit is to the fore with white & black pepper sprinkling that slowly fades giving way to more heady luxe spice in the glass. It tips past the mid-point into slightly more fuller then in some years but is plenty vibrant and fresh. Fine tannins support the supple and open fruits. Another winner!

  6. Courbissac Les Traverses Rouge Minervois 2021
Courbissac Les Traverses Rouge Minervois 2021
Les Traverses is drawn from the estate’s younger vines. It’s a blend of roughly equal parts Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, hand-harvested from 11 parcels surrounding the cellar in the heart of Cesseras within the La Livinière Cru of the Minervois appellation. As with all Claux’s wines, the fruit is farmed biodynamically and natural whole-bunch fermentation occurs in concrete vat with minimal sulphur. The grapes are gently foot-stomped, followed by six months in concrete. Bottled at 13%, this is cracking value, as always: a supple and juicy red with spicy brambly fruit and delicious plum-skin tanginess. A wine that tells us something of what the finest Minervois wines were once known for, and a wonderful introduction to this exciting domaine.
