  1. Le Marie Dolcetto d'Alba 2020
    Le Marie Dolcetto d'Alba 2020

The winery "Le Marie" comes from the passion for winemaking of the owner Valerio, his wife Luigina, and their children Simona and Daniele. The result are wines of personality, pure and elegant, produced in limited quantity and in respect of the territory, with environmentally friendly practices. The ten hectares of vineyards are between 400 and 450 meters. The land is rich in minerals that give the wines great structure and wonderful nuance.

Packed full of up-front blue and red fruits laced with peppery spice and vanilla. The palate is pliant and soft with a little nervy energy that flows through the red raspberry and currant fruit. A soft little snap of tannin that buttresses the sweet fruit nicely adds a little extra complexity. This is perfect trattoria fair and super versatile on the dinner table.

  2. Poderi Colla Dolcetto d'Alba 2020
    Poderi Colla Dolcetto d'Alba 2020
This is such a beautiful wine in 2020 and an absolute gem to drink. It opens with a beguiling mix of varietal aromas and flavors so typical of dolcetto with blue fruits, plum, licorice, a touch of dried herbs. Its slippery, sweet fruit is pushed along by the varietals fine but grippy tannins. The plump mid-palate holds itself so nicely as you drink it offering up sweet fruit and juicy acidity. The wine charges through your palate with so much flavour but never feels heavy or overbearing, Really well done.

  3. Francesco Rinaldi Dolcetto d'Alba Roussot 2021
Francesco Rinaldi Dolcetto d'Alba Roussot 2021
I tasted some blindingly good Dolcetto over in Piedmont earlier this year. It’s a great vintage for that, and Nebbiolo. You need to pick Dolcetto for freshness, and juicy flavour, and if you leave it too long, I reckon it loses its charm. F.Rinaldi have done a good job here.
Dried flowers, almond, cherry, spice, a graphite and ‘mineral’ thing, harnessing between ripeness and tension, is what you want, and its done so well here. Rich sooty tannin, perfume, dark cherry and crushed rock, plenty of extract and weight, but still keeps itself fresh and vibrant. Finish is stony and long. It’s a wine that needs a little more cellaring to show its best, but gee, pure crushed dark berry fruit and power a plenty here. Yum. Mineral and firm. Beautifully made. GARY WALSH

  4. Diego & Damiano Barale Dolcetto 2021
Diego & Damiano Barale Dolcetto 2021

Fruit entirely sourced from the Monforte d'Alba Cru of San Giovanni, which lends the wine a darker element and a touch of the more savoury, ironstone character. They are background notes to the brighter, fresher more gregarious elements that come to the fore. There is weaves of spice, rosehip tea. Primary, approachable and oh so drinkable. This is for consumption not contemplation. Not the wine to open while considering Everettian many worlds interpretation (sorry, continuing a theme from previous offers) but one to drink while listening to a solid play list and cooking something fun. Such a graceful and inviting wine this year. Get amongst it. ROSCOE
