Quealy 'Pobblebonk' 2024Quite possibly the most delicious Pobblebonk to date. Riesling, friulano, pinot grigio and ribolla gialla are the friends, each fermented wild in used French oak, on full solids and later blended. The energetic palate is light to medium bodied with the wine's fine-grained tannins and bright acidity making for a delicious and refreshing mouthful. Gosh this is an attractive wine. So many violets and indeed so redolent generally of a garden in bloom. Blue and red berried fruit flavours come melted with potpourri, sweet spice, leaf matter and twigs. Fruit and florals are the drivers but then the extras are tucked within. Mint and blood orange characters are here too, along with a decent crack of tannin. This is obviously meant to be consumed in its youth but even so, a quick double-decant does it a world of good. Le Cinciole Cinciorosso 2020From the fanatical attention to his biodynamic principals (which pre-date most in the area) to his commitment to all things sustainable - a solar farm here, a passive house there. He doesn't offer any of this information with bombastic bluster, he and his partner Valeria Vigano, mention them in passing with understatement and humility. All this is starting to get me itchy to taste the wines because, there's lots of sustainably run estates in the world these days who make mediocre juice, so I'm hoping Le Cinciole the excitement from the vineyard translates to the wines. They certainly do, they are brilliant!!
Sangiovese (70%), Merlot and Syrah. Ripe, crunchy fruit, red currants a touch of black cherry, red plums and a little white pepper spice sprinkled throughout. Lush fruits lead you in with their sweet embrace while the whole thing stays super fresh. Soft, supple tannins add real interest and give it a lovely backbone. Delamere Sparkling Cuvee NVDelamere Vineyards were planted in 1982 in the Pipers River region in northeast Tasmania making it one of the oldest plantings not only in the region but in Tasmania. They have 6.5ha under vine and its age makes it a rare resource in Tasmania. The ironstone rich soils are perfectly suited to the cultivars of pinot noir and chardonnay, and was established in the traditional French design used in Burgundy and Champagne.
The low yield per vine and the reflective heat from the ground produces wines with superior depth of flavour and ripe well-developed tannins. Vine age and subsequent natural balance are key factors in the consistent production of wines with great structure and harmony.
