The 2021 Pinot Noir is svelte and balanced; it's really settled into itself now at two years post-harvest. There's a nice, fleshy green parsley note on the nose. The fruit tastes ripe and fleshy and feels it in the mouth too. Nice mineral acidity shapes the wine and keeps it alive in the mouth. This is super pleasurable drinking here. There are pomegranate pearls and pink peppercorns. There is energy here. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

This is composed of 61.5% Te Muna Road Vineyard, with the balance from in town. It was plunged once daily and spent 20 days on the skins. Aging was in 22% new oak for 11 months, with a further nine months in tank. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. ERIN LARKIN, The Wine Advocate

This was the legacy that Larry Mackenna and his team set, today’s team led by Tim Bourne is continuing this legacy easily showcased in this wine. Very good colour, quite deep and retains a good tint of purple in the rim. Wood-spice and a hint of Campari to sniff; the palate full and intense, loaded with tannins which add grip and persistence. Long, long carry. A rich, powerful, decadent pinot which is offering much right now but also promises a bright future. This wine punches above its weight  (96) HUON HOOKE

Lower Derwent sourced fruit, essentially from the outer suburbs of Hobart, planted nigh on 40 years ago. Dense plantings. Lots of layers here. Bracken, shiitake dashi, darker cherry and freshly grown moss, spruce and other forestry allusions. Dense, pliant and convincing, this is excellent mid-weighted Tassie pinot. (95) JAMES SUCKLING

A bright, complex pinot noir... Pure red and dark cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry fruits with hints of Chinese barbecue shop, five-spice, teacake, mushroom, purple floral and subtle leaf litter tones. There is a nice sense of space and clarity in this wine, fine acidity providing the pulse and a sustained red-fruited finish studded with game, amaro and spice. (95) JAMES HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION

(vat/casks) dark red; the nose has a salted tone, with a hint of violets and gently aromatic black fruit on the inside, a touch of charry oak. The palate serves comfortable content with a tasty centre, bonny juice in the fruit with a ripe level of tannin accompanying it. It’s a well organised, gourmand Lirac rouge, has southern virtues of round, textured appeal, the fruit lasting well. The oak on the finish needs to drop back, so leave until mid-2024. A deeply hued and surprisingly concentrated 2021, the 2021 Lirac has lots of ripe cherry and Provençal herb and spice notes to go with a medium-bodied, layered, elegant style on the palate. It's a terrific 2021 that readers will love. JEB DUNNUCK 

70 % Grenache, 20 % Syrah and 10 % Mourvèdre totally de-stemmed with ferment up to 3 weeks and aged 2/3 in tank and 1/3 in barrel for 18 months before assembling and bottling and ageing another 4 months under cork before sale. These vineyards were purchased in 1997.

Glowing purple, an exuberant nose, with abundant juicy dark berry fruit energy. All destemmed. A large jug of this would go down handsomely of a summer's evening. Excellent fruit-acid balance, some blackcurrants at the back. Lovely. JASPER MORRIS MW

An expressive nose of poached plum, violet and earth gives way to racy and well-detailed flavors that conclude in a mildly austere sneaky long finish. Note that the supporting tannins are sufficiently supple such that this could be approached upon release. BURGHOUND

Deep colour, a glossy purple. Ripe, plush and fruitful. Nice undertow of spice, but the array of dark fleshed fruit is what come across most prominently, it's well rounded and fulsome but the underpinned by fresh acidity and fine, sweet tannins. Nice wine. Some airy, spring forest aromas, little poke and prod of minerality, a subtly sappy feel. Yeah, nice wine! ROSCOE

70% Grenache - 15% Mourvèdre - 15% Syrah
Red and blue fruits, violet and lavender lift, some tapenade elements. Beautiful lilting aromatics. The palate is supple, plush and slippery couching raspberry and black cherry alongside some licorice and mineral. Open and charming across the palate but also cinched in by a thread of acidity and balancing quite fine (for the region) tannins. Pure and built for joy. MICHAEL MCNAMARA

A touch of fresh crushed raspberry, some black cherry, and a wild earthen note pocked with meadow herbs. It's all turned up a notch with an extra level of concentration and broad, sweeping fruit and flavour that envelopes the palate then slowly melts away leaving earthy, charred herbs and a little wild note on the close. A bit of rustic charm dare we use the phrase here but in all the right ways and a lovely layering of savoury and sweet throughout. JAMES SUCKLING

Light-tinted, supple pinot noir with cherry, fresh herb, raspberry, chestnut and spicy oak flavours. Elegant wine in a relatively light style and with surprising power and a backbone of peppery tannins. BOB CAMBELL, The Real Review

; Hua Nui, Winery and Pencarrow. The fruit is a blend of Clones 667, 777, 115, 10/5, MV6 and Abel. All handpicked with 5% whole cluster. A period of cold soak followed by wild fermentations and gentle pumpovers and plunging. The wine is pressed to French Oak barrels and left to mature for a period of 10 months during which time it undergoes malolactic fermentation to soften the wine and add complexity.

There are seven single vineyards of Ghost Rock, per se, this is one of them, and it gets made each year. Wild ferment, no additions, no filtering and no fining, a touch of sulphur for preserving. Organic farmed.

It’s got softness and spread, a suppleness and flow, dark cherry, earthiness, sappy botanical elements, a touch of game meat and woody-savoury elements. It’s so pure and yet rich, a generosity in its layers of flavour, aroma, texture. It’s got a faint core of crushed rock minerality too. A wild streak, perhaps, lending charm and personality. SPECIAL BUY - A single-vineyard wine from the Strathmore Vineyard, planted with MV6 and Abel clones in the late 1990s; 20% whole bunches. Matured in 30% new puncheons and barriques. A deepish crimson ruby. More darkly fruited and concentrated than last year's version. Dark cherries, damson plums, peony and spice on the bouquet. Saturates the palate, which is concentrated, structured, fleshy and very long. It's so good now but will get even better over the next six to eight years and probably longer. Another superb 2023 Geelong pinot from the two Bens. (97) PHILIP RICH, Halliday Wine Companion

Last year’s release was made with MV6 and Abel clone pinot noir, on vines planted in 1998 at Sutherlands Creek in the Moorabool Valley. I assume this release is the same.

It presents a bed of fruit-filled flavour, all macerated and strewn with herbs, and while it sings and impresses through the mainstay of the palate, it’s the finish that really moves the bar higher. This wine pushes flavour well beyond the point where it had every reason to stop. The winemaker probably won’t like me saying this, but it’s a Pinot Noir that feels very Australian, in a positive way. It’s varietal, but it feels “very MV6”. Its flavours nestle into the palate, rather than being over-eager to lift off and out. It has that feel of being settled, like a cat after it’s finished kneading your lap. And yet it has that finish, that extra soar. It’s pretty special. (95+) CAMPBELL MATTINSON, The Wine Front

A vibrant cherry red in the glass. there’s lovely complex aromatics here, dried herbs, blueberry, bramble, sap, Asian spice and ferrous earth. Bright and lively on the palate with lashings of red and blue fruits, tangy, briary acidity and savoury, supple and textured tannins. Long, layered, mouth-filling and pure in flavour. Boysenberry, strawberry and red cherry flavours come threaded with sweet, twiggy spice, cedarwood oak also nestled neatly therein. This is well structured in general and will both hold and mature for a number of years, but it’s also readily accessible right now; it’s arguably the most accessible wine in the Mulline range this year. SPECIAL VALUE - A single-vineyard wine from the Surf Coast, the vineyard planted in 2001; 40% whole bunches and matured in 25% new barriques. A bright crimson ruby. From a cool vineyard and it shows, in a good, way. Aromas of strawberries, cranberries and a little spice. You barely notice the whole bunches, which are already integrating into the wine. Elegantly wrought, delicate and persistent on the palate. Thoughtful winemaking here and I like how Ben has worked with the fruit, rather than trying to make something the wine isn't. Pretty and lifted aromas of dried herbs, sap, spice, cherry, wild raspberry and mossy under-brush. Bright, lively and crunchy in flavour. There's a drive of snappy red fruits and bramble, along with chalky, grippy tannins and pointed acidity. Quite linear at the moment and will benefit from some bottle age. A seductive nose of spiced black and dark red cherries, berry compote and subtle earthy scents of moss lure you in. The nose excites for what's to come. A mesh of flesh and spice is corralled by silty tannins with raspberry licorice accents. There's a velvety richness to the texture which ignites the senses. There’s a fruit party going on here with loads of wild strawberries, red cherries and cranberries, spicy, too with snips of fresh basil and menthol plus heady florals mainly roses. The palate is mid-weighted, and a fruit succulence comes through so, too, layers of tannins with the sweet oak adding a hint of bitter green walnut on the finish. I pretty much never drink any samples, because it’s not a good habit to get into, though maybe a few swallows might make a summer while I’m actually tasting, but hey, that’s what I call the FCE (Full Consumer Experience). Anyway, I had a few glasses of this last night while watching the documentary about Ennio Morricone – “Ennio” – which is currently streaming on Stan. Very good too, and this, in a way, while not Italian, seemed a suitable style of wine for that show. I cooked my children some duck breast for tea, with jasmine rice, steamed greens and plum sauce, but I didn’t eat any of that, though this wine would have been most excellent with it. I had a piece of bread with some Laughing Cow cheese on it. Economies must be made.

Fine, kind of stony, perfumed, cherry and red fruit, gentle spiced oak, something a little earthy/autumnal too. It’s light to medium-bodied, pleasantly sappy, with a good crunch to acidity, really pleasing pumice stone tannin, and a offers a juicy/savoury finish of excellent length, with a little blood orange bite. It’s cool, it’s succulent, it’s got some slurp to it too. Purple fruits, mulberry, dark cherry, sour and tart pops of pomegranate jewels and a wash of alpine herbs and light white pepper over it all. It goes the distance, it feels svelte and coils serpent-like through the palate. A savoury undertow of brambles and earth also there. It does many, many things, and just feels right and righteous overall. Oh boy. (95) MIKE BENNIE

2022 - There's an air of serious intent to this wine. It's both inherently complex and impressively powered, its array of fruit, stalk and spice notes ricocheting from one corner of your mouth to another. Part of our new high-altitude Beechworth range. A brand-new Pinot Noir for us. An earlier drinking blend comprised of sites across Beechworth, predominantly from our new high-altitude Palmer vineyard in the heart of Stanley. Selections from Brunnen and Indigo vineyards provide a lovely combination of spice and plush red fruit.

A cool growing season, with ample time for flavour development. Whole berry ferment with gentle maceration, this wine is concentrated and complex yet shows the bright acidity and delicacy of high-altitude Pinot Noir. Savoury spice and tart red fruit softened by a subtle 15% new oak component.

Peppery, herbal, lifted and grippy. A good combo of things when it strolls through a sluice of tart cherry juice and cranberry tang. Tightly coiled too, a vigorous and streamlined pinot noir, albeit it has expressive nature, a distinct personality and flair. Refreshing all up too. Detailed in its way, showing fruit, spice, savoury elements harmoniously married, though you could say the snips of whole bunch make a mark. Very good. (95) MIKE BENNIE

The broodier and deeper of the three single-site pinots this release. Scary Gully is the oldest site with the most elevation. The essence of a long ripening season is cast here with black cherry and plum, compact and dense. There's a cosy up-in-a-log cabin appeal to it, all crunchy and wild, confident in its expression, with ample spice and twiggy herbs, thyme and bay. It feels unperturbed and complete. 2020- Slender plum and cherry – pretty and gently perfumed. It has lovely line and length without ever going broad or surrendering its prettiness. Still, it’s no wallflower – there’s drive and persistence of flavour – and even the gentle finish, with a frame of stalky grip, persists and lingers. Deceptively powerful. (96) DECANTER
