Domaine de Bellene Nuits St Georges Chaignots 1er 2020Step up again here. While Chaignots is in Nuits St Georges, it hugs the boundary of Vosne Romanee and so much of this wine presents the best of both those communes. Turned earth, background wood and red into blue fruits vie frame a lovely opening aromatic. The palate is rich and supple but there's also a lively vein running through it making stand up across the palate - suppleness and energy a great combination. Lingering fine, silty tannins draw a boundary around the red fruit and wood spice. It's full of life this wine. Great drinking but also there's loads of background structure tucked in behind the fruit to make it an excellent cellaring proposition. Vilmart Coeur de Cuvee 201580% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir from vines averaging 60 years old, the wine spends nearly 6 years on lees. Most importantly only the heart of the pressing is taken - 1400 litres instead of the usual 2100 litres, hence the name 'coeur de cuvee.'
The 2015 Brut Coeur de Cuvée is a pretty dense wine that belies its deceptively mid-weight structure. What surprises me most about the 2015 is how closed it is. In most years, especially warm years, Coeur de Cuvée is quite a bit more open and voluptuous, but the 2015 does not come across like that at all. Rather, it is super-classic in bearing, with tons of gravitas from the 60-year-old vines just waiting to emerge. There are none of the awkward herbal notes that penalize so many wines. Bright saline notes extend the finish effortlessly. The 2015 is a brilliant Coeur de Cuvée. ANTONIO GALLONI

Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean Rouge 2022A more elegant, and more floral-suffused, nose reflects notes of red berry fruit compote that is certainly ripe but stops short of being jammy. There is a more refined texture to the middleweight flavors thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins shaping the balanced and lingering finale. Vilmart Coeur de Cuvee 2016The 2016 Brut Coeur de Cuvée is an elegant, sensual Champagne. In other words, classic Vilmart. Crushed flowers, mint, chalk, slate, dried herbs and citrus peel are all beautifully delineated. Brisk acids wrap it all together in style. Domaine Robert Groffier Gevrey Chambertin Les Seuvrées 2022Just under the Grand Cru Mazoyeres ou Charmes, limestone base here. The average vine age, like all of Groffiers sites, is very old, around 60 years here. The soil is sandy resulting in super fine tannins and sappy, bright fruit. Nicolas says “the soil here is deep, but it’s not loud”.
It’s overall impression is one of vibrancy and freshness. So pure and red fruited with lovely florality. A certain crunchy element sets off the super vibrant palate. A vein of saline minerality. Long, subtly broadening out on the finish suggesting further richness to come with time. Gorgeous and good Premier Cru Gevrey quality here. Excellent. ROSCOEThe 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées has a lovely bouquet that exudes Pinoté, very pure and delineated, with seamlessly integrated oak—perhaps touching Premier Cru in quality. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry. Tensile, with vibrant, slightly tart red fruit and a slight herbaceous edge on the finish (doubtlessly emanating from the stem addition), this is quite an absorbing Gevrey-Chambertin. I am intrigued to see it age, despite its openness and pliant tannins. Give this at least two years in bottle. The 2022 is certainly in a different league than the previous vintage. NEAL MARTIN
The Gevrey has been made with 20% new wood and one third whole bunch. Fresh mid purple. The fruit on the nose is a little showier than the Bourgogne, perhaps the proportion of younger vines, perhaps the whole bunches. Hospices de Beaune Beaune Nicolas Rolin 2021 1erLike previous vintages this is on the darker side of the spectrum but the fruit remains upbeat and sappy in the mouth. Considerable tannins provide the framework while notes of spice, turned earth and a dusting of pepper waft from the glass. It is a little reserved at the moment, that’s to be expected, but the sumptuousness and creaminess of the very old vine fruit, the line of acidity that adds the fresh, sappy elements, those solid but beautifully formed tannins and bead of minerality that bursts through the palate, they all tell a story of a beautifully composed wine, raised by a master of his craft, that should develop wonderfully for at least a decade or so, probably much more. The final flush of florality and mineral laced fruit is enough to excite anyone who loves Burgundy.

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques emerges from a tiny parcel planted in 1949. Dark and complex in its first impression, the 2022 possesses notable fruit purity and a good bit of supporting structure, despite its deceptively mid-weight feel. White pepper, orange peel and tea leaves build in the glass, leading effortlessly into the clean, mineral-laced finish. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous.comOUTSTANDING. Here too firm reduction dominates the fruit at present. Otherwise, the markedly earthy big-bodied and almost painfully intense flavors flash imposing power on the driving and palate staining finish that delivers excellent length. The gorgeously textured and strikingly delineated if not especially concentrated medium-bodied flavors exude a fine bead of minerality on the caressing yet powerful, even robust, youthfully austere finish.
