A very good vintage for Chardonnay in Margaret River.This is a fine-boned and fairly lean expression of MR Chardonnay, and I’m trying to decide if it’s just a bit too lean, or just a cooler style. It’s floral, white fruit and grapefruit, a firm kiss of ginger oak, which subsides with some airing, and slight struck match. It has some sour yoghourt in with white fruit and citrus, almond too, a pleasing chalk dust texture, and a bright finish of good length and tangy citrus zip. Nice wine. Lively. Fire Gully Chardonnay 2023A wine that has continue to evolve over the years and now has a distinctive style that is all about friendly expression of fruit with a little subtle unobtrusive oak inclusion. Nice melony cashew characters with a gentle hint of stone fruit adding richness. It's a light bodied style that screams out for drinking in the next few years. Pieropan Soave Classico 2023Leonildo ‘Nino’ Pieropan, who sadly passed away in 2018, was the first to show the world just how great Garganega, and Italian white wine, can be. He recognised the importance of terroir early on, acquiring various hillside vineyards (including Pigno, Becco, Boiolo, Tondo, Palestrello and La Santa) and expanding the prestigious Calvarino and La Rocca vineyards, first made as single vineyard crus in 1971 and 1978 respectively.
Today, sons Dario (winemaker) and Andrea (viticulturist) continue the family tradition. The brothers have converted all of their vineyards to organic and are overseeing the new winery being built amongst the vineyards just outside the village.
Mostly Garganega with about 10-15% Trebbiano di Soave, this is wonderfully aromatic - not a common feature of Soave - with floral notes (cherry blossom), citrus, stone fruit and almond. The palate is delicate and focussed, with excellent depth and lovely overall balance.

Driving and elegant natural acidity and a wash of juicy tropical fruit with hints of glacé ginger and nutmeg spice. A fuzz of nettle texture and the wine finishes quite full bodied. This must be one of Australia’s top sauvignon blanc wines. And the value is pretty epic.It’s got exceptional energy and persistence, a major feature is the tension in the wine, the torque of powdery pucker and the core of briny minerality. Around this, preserved lemon, a faint ginger lift, almond, attractive parmesan cheese characters, salt bush and gentle white pepper. Delamere Sparkling Cuvee NVDelamere Vineyards were planted in 1982 in the Pipers River region in northeast Tasmania making it one of the oldest plantings not only in the region but in Tasmania. They have 6.5ha under vine and its age makes it a rare resource in Tasmania. The ironstone rich soils are perfectly suited to the cultivars of pinot noir and chardonnay, and was established in the traditional French design used in Burgundy and Champagne.
The low yield per vine and the reflective heat from the ground produces wines with superior depth of flavour and ripe well-developed tannins. Vine age and subsequent natural balance are key factors in the consistent production of wines with great structure and harmony.
Perfumed and pretty on the nose but then racy on the palate. It feels like a low-dosage style. Strawberries, lime blossom, grapefruit and lemon rind. It’s a rich and juicy wine, but also quite nutty and savoury, all the peanuts and smoked ham, quince, quite waxy, but also has this woody grainy grip to it, though I quite like the texture here, and it finishes saline and unami with solid length, and something of an orange and Islay whisky character in the mix. I was out and about in Leichhardt today, which is surely one of the more difficult suburbs to spell, and decided to pretend I was a normal person and pop into a bottle shop. In this case, Vintage Cellars, and it’s invariably interesting to see what’s on the shelves. Anyway, my partner told me she’d tried this wine earlier in the week, and that it was good. So we bought a bottle.Some struck match, grapefruit, lemon oil, light spicy oak and cashew, honey florals, and fennel. Juicy but tight, with good intensity and flavour, though it’s still pretty light on its feet, a little nectarine and honeydew melon in with citrus, creamy cashew, light struck match, with a bright grapefruit tang on a finish of excellent length. Gueguen Chablis 2020 375mlCeline Gueguen Brocard and Frederic Gueguen are a refreshing new voice amongst the mineral soils of Chablis. Though their experience runs deep. Celine is the daughter of Jean-Marc Brocard, the respected Chablis estate where she worked with her husband Frederic for over a decade.
Winegrowing runs in Celine's blood. Plots from her great grandmother established in 1882 have been passed down the line to her. Her mother, also a wine grower instilled a strong work ethic in her daughter. To say wine ran in the family is an understatement.
That classic stoney-Chablis-esq vibe here. Why do we mentione that because a warming climates and changing syle doesn't always present but here it does. Nice balance with the fresh white tree fruits cut by a saline line of acicidity and sprinkled with a little white pepper, quartzy thing going on. Nice little push of fruit out the back with loveley virbancy and purity offset with a little leesy funk.
