Domaine de Bellene Nuits St Georges Chaignots 1er 2020Step up again here. While Chaignots is in Nuits St Georges, it hugs the boundary of Vosne Romanee and so much of this wine presents the best of both those communes. Turned earth, background wood and red into blue fruits vie frame a lovely opening aromatic. The palate is rich and supple but there's also a lively vein running through it making stand up across the palate - suppleness and energy a great combination. Lingering fine, silty tannins draw a boundary around the red fruit and wood spice. It's full of life this wine. Great drinking but also there's loads of background structure tucked in behind the fruit to make it an excellent cellaring proposition. Bollinger Grande Annee 2015The 2015 Brut La Grande Année was disgorged last year with eight grams per liter dosage. The wine has turned out beautifully, exhibiting a more muscular, old-school Bollinger profile in contrast to the unusually racy, fine-boned 2014 that preceded it. Wafting from the glass with notes of pear, orange oil and white flowers mingled with notions of mocha, toasted hazelnuts and fino sherry, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with a dense core of fruit framed by chalky structuring extract, concluding with a long, sapid finish. 95+ WILLIAM KELLEY, the wine advocate
The 2015 Brut Nature Chardonnay Grande Année spent 75 months on lees. The grapes were grown on an elevated parcel of tertiary limestone at 230 meters elevation, with base wines fermented in Stück and used barrique. The nose is immensely yeasty, almost like raw bread dough, pervaded by candied lemon notes and an earthy backdrop. The palate is much more slender than the autolytic nose suggests. The mousse is fine and the feeling is citric, with savory depth and a dancing, elegant lightness that nonetheless has the rich flavor of candied lemon and springy, airy challah bread. Vilmart Coeur de Cuvee 201580% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir from vines averaging 60 years old, the wine spends nearly 6 years on lees. Most importantly only the heart of the pressing is taken - 1400 litres instead of the usual 2100 litres, hence the name 'coeur de cuvee.'
The 2015 Brut Coeur de Cuvée is a pretty dense wine that belies its deceptively mid-weight structure. What surprises me most about the 2015 is how closed it is. In most years, especially warm years, Coeur de Cuvée is quite a bit more open and voluptuous, but the 2015 does not come across like that at all. Rather, it is super-classic in bearing, with tons of gravitas from the 60-year-old vines just waiting to emerge. There are none of the awkward herbal notes that penalize so many wines. Bright saline notes extend the finish effortlessly. The 2015 is a brilliant Coeur de Cuvée. ANTONIO GALLONI

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Champeaux 1er Cru stands out in this range, with its striking bouquet redolent of deep spice and floral notes. Macerated cherry, spice, freshly cut flowers and licorice all take shape, lifted by bright acids that confer notable energy. A few years in bottle will help this come together a bit more fully. Domaine Robert Groffier Gevrey Chambertin Les Seuvrées 2022Just under the Grand Cru Mazoyeres ou Charmes, limestone base here. The average vine age, like all of Groffiers sites, is very old, around 60 years here. The soil is sandy resulting in super fine tannins and sappy, bright fruit. Nicolas says “the soil here is deep, but it’s not loud”.
It’s overall impression is one of vibrancy and freshness. So pure and red fruited with lovely florality. A certain crunchy element sets off the super vibrant palate. A vein of saline minerality. Long, subtly broadening out on the finish suggesting further richness to come with time. Gorgeous and good Premier Cru Gevrey quality here. Excellent. ROSCOEThe 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées has a lovely bouquet that exudes Pinoté, very pure and delineated, with seamlessly integrated oak—perhaps touching Premier Cru in quality. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry. Tensile, with vibrant, slightly tart red fruit and a slight herbaceous edge on the finish (doubtlessly emanating from the stem addition), this is quite an absorbing Gevrey-Chambertin. I am intrigued to see it age, despite its openness and pliant tannins. Give this at least two years in bottle. The 2022 is certainly in a different league than the previous vintage. NEAL MARTIN
The Gevrey has been made with 20% new wood and one third whole bunch. Fresh mid purple. The fruit on the nose is a little showier than the Bourgogne, perhaps the proportion of younger vines, perhaps the whole bunches. Larmandier Bernier Vignes de Levant Grand Cru 2013The Larmandier family excelled in this cooler vintage, so it's unsurprising that the 2013 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant has turned out beautifully. Wafting from the glass with notes of crisp yellow orchard fruit, brioche, white flowers, oyster shell and honeycomb, it's medium to full-bodied, deep, layered and incisive, with a tangy spine of acidity, terrific tension and a long, racy finish. The 2013 Extra Brut Vieille Vigne de Levant Grand Cru is a Champagne of real breadth and substance that captures the essence of these 50-70-year-old vines. Apricot, chamomile, dried flowers and a kiss of oak are all amplified. Vinous and creamy, the 2013 builds beautifully with time in the glass, showing tremendous character and pedigree. The 2013 was fermented and aged in a combination of neutral barrique and foudre. It's a super-classic Larmandier-Bernier Champagne. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. ANTONIO GALLONI
