1. Girardin Puligny Montrachet Folatieres 2022 1er
Girardin Puligny Montrachet Folatieres 2022 1er
From Ez Folatières, purchased as must. A lime streak runs through the mid yellow colour. This has notable density of bouquet without showing much detail yet. More substantial than the racy Pucelles, but retaining its own lively character behind the substantial flesh. Dense, generous, and with class. JASPER MORRIS, Inside Burgundy

4. Vietti Barolo Brunate 2019
Vietti Barolo Brunate 2019
The 2019 Barolo Brunate is a powerhouse. Black cherry, plum, spice, lavender, mocha, gravel and scorched earth all build as this virile, potent Barolo struts its stuff. The Brunate is another super-impressive wine in this range. To be perfectly honest, the Brunate has never been one of my favorite wines here, but the 2019 is undeniably great. Perhaps the combination of parcels Vietti has today explains the multi-dimensional vibrancy that comes through. This is simply magnificent. (98) ANTONIO GALLONI

Vietti Barolo Ravera 2020
Coming from the hill of La Morra (the fresher corner of the Barolo region), the nose of the 2020 Barolo Ravera boasts a lovely complete bouquet of licorice, rose petal, and fresh cherries, with a bright lift. Raised only in large cask, this medium-bodied Barolo is refined on the palate, with fine tannins, a silky mouthfeel, and a balanced and harmonious feel. It offers a Burgundian aesthetic and a long, graceful finish. Drink 2025-2045. (97) AUDREY FRICKE

6. William Fevre Chablis Les Preuses 2019 1500ml
William Fevre Chablis Les Preuses 2019 1500ml
DON'T MISS! - This too could be from nowhere else except Chablis with its citrus-tinged aromas of tidal pool, white flowers and shellfish. The racy, intense and painfully intense larger-scaled flavors possess cuts-like-a-knife delineation on the bone dry and super-saline finish where a distinct bitter lemon quality slowly emerges. This is very classy juice and also built-to-age. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses is another beautiful wine from Fèvre, wafting from the glass with pretty aromas of orange blossom, oyster shells, citrus zest and fresh pear. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, it's ample but precise, with racy acids and an intensely saline, mineral finish. (94) WILLIAM KELLEY, The Wine Advocate

The 2019 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru comes across as a bit muted following Brocard's Les Preuses, yet it is well-defined with chai, lemon verbena and crushed stone scents that cohere nicely with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a lightly spiced entry and a fine thread of acidity. It gains weight toward the finish, which is quintessential Chablis. Excellent. NEAL MARTIN, Vinous

7. Elio Grasso Barolo Runcot Riserva 2016
Elio Grasso Barolo Runcot Riserva 2016
The 2016 Barolo Riserva Rüncot is quite possibly the single greatest wine I have tasted in more than twenty years I have been coming here, with the possible exception of the 1989s and 1990s. Deep and powerful, but not at all heavy, the 2016 dazzles from the very first taste. Dark cherry/plum fruit, menthol, lavender, licorice and mocha saturate the palate in a Barolo of extraordinary richness and intensity. The 2016 spent four years in 100% new oak, and yet there is no trace at all of wood. Magnificent! (100) ANTONIO GALLONI

8. Ceretto Barbaresco Asili 2021
Ceretto Barbaresco Asili 2021

Made with organic fruit from a vineyard that has been in production since the mid-1970s, the Ceretto 2021 Barbaresco Asili shows very pretty floral tones of lilac, lavender and violet. Those are followed by bright tones of tart cassis and red berry. Everything about the wine feels fine, elegant and tight. This vintage offers a superior quality of fruit, and the wine closes with balanced acidity and silky tannins (97) MONICA LARNER

The 2021 Barbaresco Asili is the most delicate and sensual of the Barbarescos. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, spice and kirsch are all laced together. Bright acids and clean mineral notes give the 2021 notable tension and energy. The 2021 is a gorgeous wine that shows more young classic austerity than Asili sensuality, at least today. ANTONIO GALLONI

Showing the site's intense aromatics, the 2021 Asili opens with heady aromas of rose, violet, perfumed berry and exotic brown spice. All about elegance, the bright palate delivers juicy red cherry, blood orange, spiced cranberry and a hint of hazelnut accompanied by fine-grained tannins. It's well balanced, with bright acidity KERIN OKEEFE

10. Massolino Barbaresco Albesani 2020 1500ml
Massolino Barbaresco Albesani 2020 1500ml
The 2020 Barbaresco Albesani has more substance and depth than the straight Barbaresco. The differences between the two wines today aren't that marked at the outset, but that comes with aeration. Macerated cherry, plum, spice, lavender, rose petal and sage develop with time in the glass. All of the richness and power of Albesani comes through. For readers who want to understand what Albesani is all about, this is it! ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

From the village of Neive, the Massolino 2020 Barbaresco Albesani shows more balance at this young age next to the estate's classic Barbaresco. This single-vineyard expression also has more depth with dark berry nuances, cassis, blue flower and crushed limestone. Those floral aromas emerge with pretty intensity. The wine's tannins are very fine and silky. Some 4,000 bottles were made. (94) MONICA LARNER, The Wine Advocate

11. Massolino Barolo Vigna Rionda Riserva Etichetta Nera 2016
Massolino Barolo Vigna Rionda Riserva Etichetta Nera 2016

The 2016 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is absolutely stunning. Deep and statuesque in bearing, the 2016 captivates all the senses from start to finish. A whole range of Rionda aromatics soars out of the glass. Silky and yet powerful, gracious and yet full of gravitas, the 2016 captures all the contrasts that make Barolo such an alluring wine. Rose petal, lavender, red/purplish fruit, spice and new leather lend striking nuance to this hypnotic Barolo from Massolino. ANTONIO GALLON,Vinous

Tasting this Vigna Rionda is such a sensual experience, with the complexity you’d expect from the top-level Barolo, showing hints of iodine, dark mussels, walnuts, dark stones to the fleshy dark cherries and plums. Then it turns a little “bloody,” minty and tarry on the nose. “Dark” and full-bodied with a massive amount of small-grained tannins seamlessly knitting the fruit on the palate, driving it to a very long, mineral finish. Very tight and powerful now, yet seductively rich and full of flesh, too. Shows lots of potential ahead. Much better from 2025. It should hold well for the next 20+ years. JAMES SUCKLING

Packaged with a special black label, the Massolino 2016 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is only released in the best vintages. Showing the power and the determination of Serralunga d'Alba, the wine is redolent of dried berry, lots of rusty earth and fragrant red rose. These are the typical aromas of this vineyard, and this wine presents them with impeccable integration. To the palate, this Riserva remains open-knit, tightly structured and broad in scope. MONICA LARNER, The Wine Advocate

13. Paolo Scavino Barolo Riserva 2016
Paolo Scavino Barolo Riserva 2016
Not made since the 2011 vintage to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the winery and before that not since 1964, the Paolo Scavino 2016 Barolo Riserva is gorgeous. Made with a selection of the best grapes from the estate's historic vineyards, it's intensely fragrant, boasting multifaceted aromas of forest floor, iris, ripe woodland berry, camphor and brown exotic spice. Combining power and finesse, the delicious palate offers cherry marinated in spirits, raspberry compote, licorice and tobacco set against a backbone of firm, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced and energized. Still primary and youthfully austere, it needs a few more years to unwind and develop. Drink 2028-2046. (98) KERIN O'KEEFE

Dark red/magenta in color, the 2016 Barolo Riserva is remarkable, offering loads of kirsch, polished leather, balsamic, dark chocolate, and crushed violets. The list goes on and on as it opens and begins to show more mineral aromas of graphite and truffle. Medium to full-bodied, it's an exquisite red, with ripe, polished tannins, a seamless structure, and a long finish. It retains wonderful purity and ripeness and leaves a haunting sensation as it tapers ever so slowly. This stunning wine from the Scavino family is built for the long haul. Drink 2026-2056. 14. William Fevre Chablis Les Clos 2019 MAGNUM
William Fevre Chablis Les Clos 2019 MAGNUM

DON'T MISS! - If Kimmeridgian could be distilled, it would likely smell exactly like the nose of the 2019 Les Clos with the additions of wet chalk, citrus zest and oyster shell. There is equally good delineation to the snappy, painfully intense and overtly stony large-bodied flavors that deliver superb length on the balanced finale. This elegant and classy effort is also built on a base of almost pungent minerality and a wine that is indisputably going to age effortlessly for years. BURGHOUND

FIVE STARS - 2ha of Les Clos were planted by Maurice Fèvre between 1947 and 1952, a time when much of the hillside was bare. The 2019 yields just 25 h/ha and had recently been racked, so had not fallen clear. The bouquet is immense. Keep sniffing, and it keeps offering more. This year Les Clos has a dimension over and above all the others. Not just density, but amazing depth. A little touch of bitters too, which we like at this stage. Such great length! 15. Paolo Scavino Novantesimo Barolo Riserva 2011
Paolo Scavino Novantesimo Barolo Riserva 2011

Pressed rose, iris, new leather, exotic spice, menthol and a whiff of wild berry come to the forefront on this gorgeous wine. The full-bodied, polished palate has a weightless elegance, delivering raspberry compote, crushed cherry, licorice, aromatic herb and a floral note alongside taut, velvety tannins. It’s already beautiful but hold for even more complexity. (97) KERIN OKEEFE

The 2011 Barolo Riserva Novantesimo is a proud and exuberant wine that does enormous justice to the vintage and to the mighty Nebbiolo grape. This is remembered as a warm growing season, and this wine is richly layered, generous and beautifully intense as a result. Dark cherry aromas are folded within spice, cured tobacco and leather. The best part is that subtle crunch or snap you get on the palate, thanks to the fresh acidity that is neatly integrated within. (97) MONICA LARNER

In 2011, Scavino bottled a small amount of the 2011 Barolo Riserva Novantesimo, a blend of fruit fruit from a handful of top-notch sites to celebrate the winery's 90th anniversary. A hauntingly beautiful wine, the 2011 graces the palate with notable nuance and detail. Freshly cut flowers, mint and sweet red berries are all laced together in an exquisite Barolo endowed with real class and pedigree. The Novantesimo is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintage. That is little wonder. Look at the vineyard sites: Fiasco (Castiglione Falletto), Monvigliero (Verduno), Cannubi and Vignane (Barolo), San Bernardo (Serralunga), Bricco Ambrogio (Roddi) and Rocche dell’Annunziata (La Morra). 20. William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2021 MAGNUM
William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2021 MAGNUM

DON'T MISS! - This too could be from nowhere else other than Chablis with its combination of strong mineral reduction, cool citrus, shellfish and iodine. The dense, opulent and powerful large-bodied flavors brim with dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the lemony and massively long finish. Not surprisingly for a classic Les Clos, this super effort is very much built-to-age and a wine that I would advise not touching for at least 6 to 8 years first. BURGHOUND

WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - 4.10 ha, principally the higher section but some lower towards Grenouilles - mainly planted before 1950 by that father of Willaim Fevre. Always the only wine in this - or pretty much any line-up of great Chablis that makes me think - Chevalier-Montrachet - but this year I see Chablis! Extra breadth to this aroma - almost a hybrid of the previous two wines - but then it changes gear, floral and mega-impressive - wow - I almost don't need to drink it! Okay, for science ?? : This is not the most forceful or incisive but it has a mouth-filling fluidity that infuses the senses. -----------------

William Fevre Chablis Vaillons 2018 1er
A cool, pure and citrus-tinged nose speaks of oyster shell, iodine and discreet green apple nuances. There is a fine sense of energy to the crisp, minerally and racy flavors that deliver solid length on the bone dry finish that already displays very good complexity. Lovely stuff and worth checking out. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru is laced with strong mineral and earthy tones that are such a signature. Savory herbs, menthol, licorice, citrus peel and a touch of reduction are all woven together in a Chablis of real class and nuance. This is another wine in the range that is both dense and understated, with a real sense of aromatic lift. ANTONIO GALLONI

William Fevre Chablis Fourchaume 2018 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING
. In much the same fashion as the Les Lys the nose is overtly floral in character with background nuances of oyster shell, iodine and wet stone. The impressively rich, concentrated and powerful medium weight plus flavors possess excellent intensity that carries over to the complex, long, dry and focused finale. This is, in a word, terrific. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru is superb. Rich and ample with tremendous structure, the 2018 possesses terrific depth and textural resonance throughout the finish. Orchard fruit, lemon confit, almond and menthol infuse the 2018 with notable complexity and intensity. Textured, oily and deep with a bit of a savory edge, the 2018 has so much to offer. ANTONIO GALLONI

William Fevre Chablis Montee de Tonnerre 2018 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING.
An elegant, pure and relatively airy nose combines plenty of Chablis typicity with notes of white orchard fruit, citrus, algae and iodine wisps. There is very good minerality and delineation to the lacy and refined yet punchy flavors that deliver sneaky good length where the intensity really builds from the mid-palate to the driving finish. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is very tight, but it was also racked just prior to this tasting, and Montée de Tonnerre is naturally a site that yields intensely mineral wines. Bright citrus, mint, chalk and white pepper open up gradually in a brisk, focused wine that needs time to show at its best. ANTONIO GALLONI

William Fevre Chablis Vaulorent 2018 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING.
Not surprisingly this is aromatically similar to the Fourchaume though here there is a whiff of wood in evidence. The slightly sleeker and finer medium-bodied flavors possess good power and punch while remaining refined and composed on the impressively long and well-balanced finale. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Vaulorent 1er Cru takes all the signatures of this small site and amps them up to the next level. Lemon confit, almond, dried fruit and floral notes lift from an intense, vertical wine endowed with real palate presence and depth. Seamless, ample and creamy, the Vaulorent is simply superb. Tasted next to the Fourchaume, the Vaulorent is a bigger and more dramatic wine. ANTONIO GALLONI

William Fevre Chablis Mont de Milieu 2018 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING
. A beautifully fresh and ripe nose; indeed this is ripe to the point that there is a hint of exoticism to the pretty nose of tidal pool, pear, apple and tangerine nuances. There is good verve and volume to the textured medium weight flavors that culminate in a balanced and lingering finish that coats the palate with dry extract. This is excellent and while there is a touch of warmth, it's not enough to materially detract from the overall sense of balance. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Montmains 2018 1er
An elegant and quite floral suffused nose evidences a lovely array of classic Chablis elements on the mostly white orchard fruit aromas. I very much like the intensity and detail of the medium weight and decidedly rich flavors that display a mild touch of bitter lemon rind character on the sappy finale… BURGHOUND

Nervy and complex nose with excellent depth. Oranges, nutmeg, steel, mineral and a touch of white pepper and oyster shell. Broad and expansive on the palate with very structured, chalky tannins that extend to a lengthy, mineral finish. Long and youthful. From organically grown grapes. Can drink now, but better from 2027. JAMES SUCKLING

The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2020 Barolo Cannubi is a fine and delicate wine, although there is a little more grit and richness in this warm vintage. The quality of the fruit is exceptional, especially its crisp ripeness. Dark cherry, blackcurrant, rose blossom, pink pepper and white limestone add considerable high-toned notes. The freshness is great and the fruit stays juicy, fueling a long, elegant finish. MONICA LARNER

23. Vietti Villero Riserva Barolo 2012
Vietti Villero Riserva Barolo 2012
This is the 13th edition that Vietti has come out with, over the span of 38 years, of this stunning Riserva, a wine that ultimately is produced only about once every four years or so. It was not made after the previous harvest, in 2011. The recent editions have been nothing short of spectacular, earning 100-point scores in both 2007 and 2009 and 99 points in its latest appearance, 2010. It's a series that has set the bar extraordinarily high, and this 2012 Barolo Riserva Villero is a little less exciting in comparison. However, the wine holds its own as one of the most beautiful in the entire appellation and one of the best in the somewhat lackluster vintage. Balsamic and truffle notes pepper the palate of this handsome Barolo, but it's just really hard to reproduce that magic, release after release, for a wine regularly expected to sell at several hundred dollars apiece. (97) MONICA LARNER

Vietti’s 2012 Barolo Riserva Villero is absolutely gorgeous. In 2012, the Villero is especially lifted and aromatic, showing a distinctly floral and red-toned expression of fruit rather than the darker, more balsamic inflections that are typical of this Castiglione Falletto cru. Light on its feet, fresh and graceful to its core, the Villero is another terrific wine from Vietti in 2012. Veins of Villero tannin and bright acids give the wine energy, vibrancy and tons of character. More than anything else, though, the 2012 Villero is a very clear continuation of a stylistic evolution that can be traced to the 2010 Barolo Ravera in which the Barolos are now made in a more traditional style than in the past, which includes malolactic fermentation in cask rather than barrique. In 2012, that approach was not in place for all the Barolos, but it is very much evident here. (95+) ANTONIO GALLONI

Blain Gagnard Batard Montrachet 2022
A background hint of wood sets off aromas that include the essence of spiced pear, acacia blossom and an array of spice elements. Here too the big-bodied flavors are succulent and concentrated with evident power that seems to build on the compact, balanced and equally built to age finale. I underscore however that this is presently an almost impenetrable block and I would suggest not touching a bottle for at least five to seven years. BURGHOUND

1 BOTTLE AVAILABLE

With fruit from La Morra, the mid-weight 2018 Barolo Brunate shows a pretty softness and a delicate side with dried rose, lilac and blue flower. The wine completes malolactic fermentation in barrique and is later moved into large oak casks for aging. This dual oak treatment is part of Vietti's secret recipe for producing the silky tannins and fine texture you taste here. A production of 4,493 bottles, the wine is recognized by that distinctive aromatic finale of licorice and balsam herb. (95) MONICA LARNER, The Wine Advocate

The 2018 Barolo Brunate is a deep, layered wine that is going to need at least a few years to come together. Today, the Brunate is quite primary and backward, but all the ingredients are there. Sage, menthol, licorice, dried flowers and spice build with a bit of coaxing. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

1 x William Fevre Chablis Fourchaume 2020 1er
1 x William Fevre Chablis Montee de Tonnerre 2020 1er

1 x William Fevre Chablis Vaulorent 2020 1er

---------------

William Fevre Chablis Vaillons 2020 1er
Derived from old vines in Les Minots (that are a source for the Fèvre massale selection), as well as holdings in Roncières and Chatains, the 2020 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons unwinds in the glass with notes of white flowers, crisp stone fruit and clear honey. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it's a beautifully vibrant, racy wine that concludes with a long, penetrating finish. It's the best young Vaillons I've ever tasted chez Fèvre. WILLIAM KELLEY, Wine Advocate

William Fevre Chablis Fourchaume 2020 1er
OUTSTANDING.
An abundance of Chablis typicity is present on the aromas of mineral reduction, white orchard fruit, citrus zest and tidal pool. There is again very good volume and density to the medium-bodied flavors that are unusually powerful for Fourchaume, all wrapped in a lemony and almost salty finish. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Montee de Tonnerre 2020 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING.
A cool, pure and airy nose also reflects notes of mineral reduction and citrus zest along with more prominent floral and iodine nuances. The sleek, refined and beautifully delineated middle weight flavors possess a bracing salinity on the sneaky long and well-balanced finale. Like several wines in the range, this needs to develop better depth but it is very stylish and should age effortlessly so more complexity should eventually manifest itself. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Les Lys 2020 1er
OUTSTANDING.
Agreeably fresh and pretty aromas are comprised by those of cool and restrained spiced apple, sea breeze and white floral nuances. The intense and utterly delicious middleweight flavors possess a chalky texture while displaying fine detail on the lingering bitter lemon-inflected finish. This delicate effort isn't especially dense but offers the hallmark finesse of a quality Les Lys. Lovely. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Mont de Milieu 2020 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING
…In contrast to the Les Lys, here the much bigger-bodied flavors possess very fine density and obvious power on the sappy lemon rind suffused finish. This firm and serious effort will need to develop more depth but if it does this could well be excellent. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Vaulorent 2020 1er
Most of it is hard by Les Preuses. Séguier calls this their "baby grand cru" as specific barrels are selected for vine age, concentration and power
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING. The restrained and layered nose makes clear that this could be from nowhere else but Chablis with its aromas of algae, iodine, oyster shell and spiced pear. The texture of the medium weight flavors is also sleek and intense with slightly better density to the youthfully austere bitter lemon suffused finish. Lovely. BURGHOUND

FIVE STARS - Attractive pale lemon, similar beautiful pale lemon colour with a light lime tint. The nose is startlingly fine, with a haunting elegance. Why in these hotter years are the Vaulorent wines seemingly even finer? The terroir dominates the vintage. A citrus zest weaving in and out of white fruit. Harmony and balance. Hardly able to assimilate all the intensity. What a wealth of dry extract! (96) JASPER MORRIS MW

29. Vietti Barolo Lazzarito 2018 1500ml
Vietti Barolo Lazzarito 2018 1500ml
1 BOTTLE AVAILABLE

The 2018 Barolo Lazzarito represents Vietti's interpretation of Serralunga d'Alba, the village often associated with the most powerful wines in the appellation. The Lazzarito completes its secondary fermentation in barrique over three months and is then racked into large oak botti for an additional two years of aging. With some 8,000 bottles produced in this smaller vintage, the wine is very indicative of its geographic origins with tight black fruit, rusty nail, blood orange and earth. Compared to the others in this series, this wine delivers more lasting tannic power. A bit salty and savory now, it is well suited to long aging. (96+) MONICA LARNER, The Wine Advocate

The 2018 Barolo Lazzarito is tense, vibrant and very much closed in on itself. Searing tannins and Serralunga structure dominate today. Crushed rocks, gravel, red fruit, rose petal, lavender and sage all run though this sculpted, vibrant Serralunga Barolo. What stands out most about the Lazzarito today is that is stylistically more similar to the other Barolos than it was a few years ago. I expect great things in time here. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

30. William Fevre Premier Crus 6 Pack 2021
William Fevre Premier Crus 6 Pack 2021

This 6 pack contains one each of the following Premier Crus:

1 x William Fevre Chablis Montmains 2021 1er
1 x William Fevre Beauroy 2021 1er
1 x William Fevre Chablis Vaillons 2021 1er
1 x William Fevre Chablis Les Lys 2021 1er
1 x William Fevre Chablis Montee de Tonnerre 2021 1er
1 x William Fevre Chablis Vaulorent 2021 1er

-------------------

William Fevre Chablis Montmains 2021 1er
OUTSTANDING -
An overtly floral-inflected nose displays notes of pear, apple, citrus confit and mineral reduction. There is impressive density to the rich and surprisingly powerful middleweight plus flavors that are supported by bracing lemon-tinged acidity on the more complex, long and highly refreshing finish. Good stuff and worth your interest. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Beauroy 2021 1er

This is ripe enough to have elusive suggestions of exotic fruit on the white peach, maritime and quinine. There is excellent mid-palate density to the rich, delicious and solidly intense middleweight flavors that conclude in an agreeably dry and again, saline-suffused finish. This will need to add depth but a few years of keeping should be sufficient. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Vaillons 2021 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING -
Here too there is a vague suggestion of the exotic on the slightly riper aromas of pear compote, ocean spray, iodine and wet stone. The rich, vibrant and palate coating flavors are also supported by bright acidity that carries over to the wonderfully long, youthfully austere and firm finale. This beauty should age effortlessly. BURGHOUND

WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH -
Direct, a little more generous, mineral slightly riper fruit. Supple but pure, gorgeous wine - it needs to add a dimension of purity but the wine is not bright - that will come and when it does it will be great! BILL NANSON, The Burgundy Report

William Fevre Chablis Les Lys 2021 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING -
A cooler and airier array is comprised by notes of citrus, quinine and essence of algae. The ultra-sleek and overtly mineral-driven flavors possess cuts-like-a-knife delineation before terminating in a chiseled, linear and moderately austere finale. This is a terrific example of Les Lys, indeed it's textbook. BURGHOUND

WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH -
It's part of Vaillons but these vines are over the top of the hill so not the same exposure. Old vines with a small yield. Decided to separate since 1998, before was in the Vaillons. 'Naturally these vines don't produce much, only 40 hl/ha in 2018 - there's a lot of court noué here, hence the low yields of small grapes. A little citrus skin on this zesty nose - rarer in 2021. This wine is bright and the difference is clear - pure, wine of citrus clarity - mouth-filling. Potentially a great wine. BILL NANSON, The Burgundy Report

William Fevre Chablis Montee de Tonnerre 2021 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING -
A discreet dollop of wood sets off the equally cool and perhaps even slightly more elegant aromas of acacia, citrus, seashore and oyster shell. The sleek and highly sophisticated medium-bodied flavors possess a really lovely texture while delivering superb length on the bitter lemon and mineral-suffused finish. This beautifully balanced effort is crystalline in its purity and a wine that should repay a decade plus of keeping. BURGHOUND

WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH -
A little more direct, a lot more airy. More citrus bitters again - lovely purity and minerality - beautiful intensity but without pain. A mm of cushion to this fine texture too. So perfectly packaged - This bottle could be drunk today - if it was bottled! Bravo and so sneakily long too! BILL NANSON, The Burgundy Report

William Fevre Chablis Vaulorent 2021 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING
- A much less expressive nose, indeed it is all but mute, requires aggressive swirling to eventually coax aromas of white orchard fruit, citrus blossom and seawater. The richer and slightly more powerful flavors also possess a sophisticated mouthfeel along with excellent depth and persistence on the balanced finale where a touch of youthful austerity slowly emerges. In a word, terrific. BURGHOUND

Vietti Barolo Monvigliero 2019 1500ml

2 BOTTLES AVAILABLE

The 2019 Barolo Monvigliero is stunning. What a wine. Rich, heady and explosive, the 2019 is a gorgeous, spherical Barolo that dazzles right out of the gate. Aromatically broad and expansive, the 2019 fleshes out beautifully in the glass. Bright red-toned fruit, orange zest, mint, spice and bright saline notes saturate the palate on the back end. The 2019 is a total stunner, even in this stage of youthful austerity. It comes across as a bit rustic compared to the 2018, but the final verdict on that won't be evident for at least a number of years. This is the first vintage that includes a second parcel in Monvigliero. In the cellar, one lot saw submerged cap maceration, the other did not. (97+)ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

Vietti Barolo Rocche di Castiglione 2020 1500ml
1 AVAILABLE

The 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a magical wine from a magical site. It marries finesse and volume to a degree that is not found in most of the other wines in this range. Castiglione Falletto is the center of the Barolo production zone, literally and figuratively, the place where many different soil types meet. As a result, the wines often possess mind-blowing balance, which is very much the case here. (96) ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

The Vietti 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a very delineated wine with sharp ferrous notes, cherry cola, redcurrant and chalky mineral. It is extremely precise in terms of its aromas. The effect is direct and layered, showing different sides and increasing complexity as it opens in the glass. Dried floral notes, purple flower and iris also appear delicately. The chalky tannins feel abrupt at this young stage, but this wine is built to last nonetheless. Only 3,512 bottles were created. (96) MONICA LARNER

1 x William Fevre Chablis Vaudesir 2018
1 x William Fevre Chablis Bougros 2018
1 x William Fevre Chablis Bougros Cote de Bouguerots 2018
1 x William Fevre Chablis Les Clos 2018

------------------

William Fevre Chablis Les Preuses 2018
DON'T MISS.
This is one of the most elegant wines in the range with its cool and admirably airy and pure aromas of citrus zest, oyster shell, seashore and once again gentle wood nuances. The mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors combines volume with refinement while delivering excellent length on the balanced, stony and markedly dry finale. This is not quite as concentrated as the best here but as it usually is, it's a marvelous wine of refinement and punch. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru is a super-classic expression of this site. Bright, punchy and intensely mineral, the Preuses possesses off-the-charts intensity and exceptional balance, all with the crystalline purity that is the signature of the very best wines from this site. Lemon peel, slate, mint, crushed rocks, white pepper and flowers build into the explosive, palate-staining finish. What a magnificent wine this is. ANTONIO GALLONI

William Fevre Chablis Valmur 2018
DON'T MISS.
Once again there is just enough wood to notice framing the green fruit, quinine, algae and ocean breeze-inflected aromas. The mouth feel of the big, bold and robust flavors is muscular and serious while displaying outstanding length on the super-saline and impressively complex finale. This too is terrific though it is very clearly built for extended aging. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru is quite dense, with explosive energy and tons of structure. Readers will have to be patient with the 2018, as it needs a number of years to be at its very best. Citrus, floral and savory notes open up in the glass, but only with great reluctance; this powerful, concentrated Chablis demands time. ANTONIO GALLONI

William Fevre Chablis Vaudesir 2018
DON'T MISS.
An exuberantly fresh and cool and mildly exotic nose offers up unmistakable Chablis character that includes sea breeze, iodine and oyster shell along with an abundance of citrus elements. There is equally good freshness and verve to the utterly delicious, crisp and delineated medium-bodied flavors that possess fine persistence and a lovely minerality on the notably dry but not austere finale where the wood resurfaces. This almost delicate effort will need a year or so to digest the oak treatment but this too is very promising. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru is a gorgeous, radiant wine that captures the essence of this warm, early ripening site. Sweet and racy with striking inner perfume, the 2018 has so much to offer. Passion fruit, mint, citrus and exotic floral notes are beautifully woven together in this super-expressive, inviting wine. Strong mineral character graces the exquisite finish. ANTONIO GALLONI

William Fevre Chablis Bougros 2018

From an incredible <6 ha parcel
Pungent and broad-ranging aromas include those of mineral reduction, pear liqueur, green fruit, shellfish and soft wood influence. There is excellent volume to the delicious, lightly stony and notably powerful middle weight plus flavors that conclude in a very firm, clean, dry, long and youthfully austere finish. As the description makes clear, this is presently quite compact though promising. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Bougros Grand Cru is far more forthcoming than the Valmur, presenting gorgeous orange, peach, tinned apricot and light pineapple scents that are very seductive. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh. This immediately puts the Valmur in its place with a penetrating, saline finish that leaves you wanting another sip. Superb. ANTONIO GALLONI

William Fevre Chablis Bougros Cote de Bouguerots 2018
DON'T MISS.
A pure essence is comprised by notes of white flowers, citrus, mineral reduction and a gentle application of wood. The racy, intense and equally refined middle weight flavors are also super-saline while exhibiting superb length on the balanced, youthfully austere and very dry finale. This will need to add depth over the next few years to merit the top end of my projected range but the underlying material appears to be up to the task. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Bougros Côte Bouguerots Grand Cru is a dense, powerful and richly textured wine endowed with tremendous power. Rich yellow orchard fruit, crushed rocks, citrus and floral notes infuse a dense, potent Chablis that marries fruit richness and intense minerality. Ample and dramatic in its tremendous scale, the 2018 is compelling, sensual and racy - wow. ANTONIO GALLONI

William Fevre Chablis Les Clos 2018
DON'T MISS.
Once again the nose is both fresh and ripe and while it's not quite as elegant and airy as the Côte Bouguerots there is every bit as much classic Chablis character. There is a really lovely mouth feel to the sappy large-bodied flavors thanks to the copious quantity of dry extract that also serves to buffer the exceptionally firm acid spine on the powerful, punchy and beautifully complex finale. This beautiful effort, along with the Preuses, would appear to be the most promising wines in the range in 2018 and they are among the best wines of the vintage. BURGHOUND

The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is a powerful, beautifully layered wine. Mint wild flowers and chamomile accents add complexity to the lemon confit fruit. Creamy and ample on the palate, the 2018 is an especially rich Clos endowed with notable textural depth and a real feeling of seamlessness. I loved it. ANTONIO GALLONI

1 x William Fevre Chablis Les Clos 2020

----------------

William Fevre Chablis Bougros 2020
SWEET SPOT.
This is restrained to the point of being all but aromatically mute though aggressive swirling eventually coaxes notes of green fruit, citrus peel and oyster shell nuances to reveal themselves. There is both excellent volume and concentration to the big-bodied, powerful and imposing flavors that are focused, structured and youthfully austere. This is very much a work in progress, and I would advise allowing this at least 5 years of cellaring and it should easily reward a decade or more. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Valmur 2020
DON'T MISS.
Much like the Vaulorent, the nose instantly confirms with conviction that this could be from nowhere else but Chablis with its airy array of citrus rind, sea breeze, quinine and green fruit aromas. There is excellent size, weight and richness to the broad-shouldered yet sleek flavors if not nearly the same refinement on the powerful and driving finish. This even more firmly structured effort is impressive as well though with an entirely different texture. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Vaudesir 2020
DON'T MISS.
A discreet dollop of wood sets off the ever-so-mildly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, passion fruit and subtle mineral reduction wisps. There isn't the same weight and density though there is much better refinement to the lightly stony, focused and sneaky long finish. This is a classic Vaudésir that should also reward a decade or so of cellaring. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Preuses 2020
DON'T MISS
Aromas of quinine, essence of wet stone and seashore add breadth to the nose of pear, apple and anise. Once again there is fine density and intensity to the mouth coating medium weight flavors that flash outstanding length on the bracingly saline suffused finale. This has already develop very good depth and more will also surely develop. This is potentially outstanding. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Bougros Cote de Bouguerots 2020
from a 2.2 ha parcel at the bottom section of the vineyard; even so, the vineyard is so steep here that it must be worked entirely by hand as tractors would be dangerous to use
DON'T MISS A deft application of wood lurks in the background of the aromas cool citrus, apple, mineral reduction and ocean breeze wisps. There is an almost painful intensity to the powerful but sleek and defined medium weight plus flavors that brim with minerality on the clean, very dry and hugely long finish. This is also potentially brilliant and well-worth considering. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Les Clos 2020
DON'T MISS.
A cool, restrained and airy nose grudgingly divulges its combination of lemon rind, green apple, quinine and acacia blossom scents. There is again excellent volume and concentration to the powerful and muscular flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the impressively complex and hugely long finish. This is classic Les Clos in that it manages to be at once big and overtly powerful while remaining refined and classy. This is, in a word, terrific. BURGHOUND

FIVE STARS - Glowing citrus yellow. Restrained intensity, a wine of the highest class from the first sniff. At the outset it is all about the fruit, and the stones (undeniably present) can wait. There is a huge intensity of pure white fruit, very concentrated at the finish, inalienably Les Clos. I suggest a long wait before you open your bottles, eight to ten years or more. ------------

William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros 2021
Some width of white flower perfume. Gas that's adding energy. Rounder and richer but cut by fine acidity and minerality - never austere but properly balanced. That's a great finish - panoramic, gorgeously delicious and complex - I love this finish! BILL NANSON, The Burgundy Report

William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 2021
DON'T MISS -
This could be from nowhere else but Chablis with its nose of crushed algae, iodine, green fruit and shellfish. There is outstanding density to the broad-shouldered and muscular flavors that stain the palate while the abundant dry extract buffers the firm acid spine shaping the superbly long and highly complex finale. This is also extremely promising. BURGHOUND

More direct, fresh but ripe citrus that flexes its muscles. Extra mineral - almost a suggestion of the austerity - super energy and volume on the palate - here's a wine that's a study in minerality and with such a finish! A great lecture in Chablis minerality! BILL NANSON, The Burgundy Report

William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir 2021
From two separate parcels of vines, the larger of which is in the heart of the "amphitheater" from which the finest examples of Vaudésir originate
DON'T MISS - Cool and strikingly elegant aromas include those of quinine, white peach, spice and an abundance of classic Chablis notes. The dense yet wonderfully refined medium-weight flavors brim with dry extract on the gorgeously long, balanced and highly complex finale. This is extremely stylish and very promising. BURGHOUND

William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 2021
DON'T MISS.
A deft application of wood frames the beautifully elegant nose of essence of pear, green apple, acacia blossom, lemon rind and a plethora of classic Chablis scents. The dense and unusually powerful large-scaled flavors don't have the muscle of the Valmur but they're finer, all wrapped in a massively persistent and even more complex finale. As good as the Valmur is, and it's wonderful, there is just a bit more here. BURGHOUND

WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - A faint reduction in this nose of scale - mineral, almost a little seashore. There's extra depth - maybe 1 mm not 2, of richness. White flowers - perhaps more orange-blossom aromas. Again, this is a wine of scale - a little extra composure and even power vs the CdBouguerots. The minerality is more evident too. It's also a great wine - but a very different style. The finish is 'extra!' BILL NANSON, The Burgundy Report

William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Cote de Bouguerots 2021
From a 2.2 ha parcel at the bottom section of the vineyard; even so, the vineyard is so steep here that it must be worked entirely by hand as tractors would be dangerous to use
DON'T MISS - A cool and highly restrained nose reluctantly offers up its array of citrus, tidal pool, quinine and oyster shell. The exceptionally rich, even opulent, medium-weight plus flavors also brim with sappy dry extract on the mineral-driven, powerful and remarkably long finish. This is perhaps slightly less elegant than it typically is, but it is most impressive all the same. BURGHOUND

WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - More the white flower aromatic again - not a bright wine. Large-scale, mouth-filling wine - there's such an energy here. It needs time to help you better focus on its complexity - but it will be a great bottle! BILL NANSON, The Burgundy Report

William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2021
DON'T MISS.
This too could be from nowhere else other than Chablis with its combination of strong mineral reduction, cool citrus, shellfish and iodine.

Okay, for science : This is not the most forceful or incisive but it has a mouth-filling fluidity that infuses the senses. (Almost) always a wine apart and it is certainly that in 2021 - undisputedly great - bravo! BILL NANSON, The Burgundy Report

Girardin Batard Montrachet 2022

***** One barrel, not new. A pale primrose with a startlingly fine and pure bouquet. Magical. There is a refined yet exceptionally intense pure fruit, with a saline and citrus touch behind. Ultra stylish and very pure. The finish extends beautifully behind. Bravo! (98) JASPER MORRIS, Inside Burgundy

This is also quite floral in character with its spicy white orchard aromas where a hint of citrus confit lurks in the background. On the palate there is a refined and succulent texture to the middleweight flavors that also display focused power on the firm, moderately austere and clearly built-to-age finale where a hint bitter zest slowly surfaces. This is also impressive though at least some patience is strongly advised. BURGHOUND

Bruno Giacosa AA Falletto Barbaresco Asili Riserva 2014 1500ml
1 BOTTLE AVAILABLE

Packaged in its distinctive red label (red is for Riserva), the 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Asili represents a tremendous effort in a challenging but ultimately very rewarding vintage. This wine will be released in February 2019. The previous edition was 2011, and Bruna Giacosa tells me that it will be produced in 2016 and possibly 2017—although this has not yet been officially confirmed. In a normal vintage, production is 11,000 bottles strong, but because of reduced yields in 2014 we can expect some 8,000 bottles instead. Growing conditions in 2014 were cause for concern up until the end of August because of humidity and below average temperatures. Those conditions changed suddenly in the nick of time, bringing strong sunshine and warmth during the final stage of grape ripening. Ultimately, 2014 proved to be a long growing season with healthy fruit in reduced volume. The Rabajà cru sometimes shows a harder edge with more mineral definition. Asili, in comparison, offers gorgeous intensity and profound depth. This Riserva shows seamless integration of wild fruit, blue flower, spice, balsam herb and pencil shaving. This is a complete and complex expression with an enduring sense of dimension and structure. I can’t wait to taste this wine one day in the far future when it is further along on its promising evolutionary track. (97) MONCIA LARNER, The Wine Advocate

The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is soft, layered and seductive, as wines from this site tend to be. Silky tannins and lifted aromatics lend finesse to this inviting Barbaresco from Giacosa. All the elements are very nicely balanced. I very much like elegance here, even if the inner sweetness Bruno Giacosa prized so much in his wines when he was alive, never materializes. FIVE STARS
Pale primrose in colour. Noticeably more majesty here, a greater depth and also a little touch of oak. Halfway at least to Montrachet. An entirely coherent expression with a stunning density of white fruit, and a perfectly integrated acidity. This year the Cabotte is closer to the power of Montrachet, a brilliant wine. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Oct 2023. (96-99) JASPER MORRIS, Inside Burgundy

FIVE STARS
Fine pure lemon yellow. The bouquet starts off rather reserved. A suggestion of immense weight, certainly some new oak, but waiting for the fruit and the personality of the wine to emerge. Now some coconut and the feeling that the wine is about to release its magic. Superbly suave on the palate, more lifted than I expected and still the main core of the wine does not want to be touched. A fine mineral acidity at the finish but still wait and see. Only right at the end does it all start to kick in. A wine of immense density for the very long-term future. Retasting the glorious Cabotte reinforces the majesty of this Montrachet. Drink from 2034. Tasted Oct 2023. (97-99) JASPER MORRIS, Inside Burgundy

Two barrels made. A glowing pale lemon and lime colour. Though the barrels are not new they still lend a touch of coconut to this sublimely opulent Montrachet. The riches are properly balanced on the palate though, with waves of perfectly ripe fruit sweeping through the mouth. Some tropical notes, and lower in acidity to taste, thanks to the power of the fruit. DON'T MISS!
A reticent if discreetly beautiful nose reflects notes of green apple, just sliced citrus, white flowers and a lovely array of spice nuances, especially anise. The highly seductive, even opulent, big-bodied flavors are almost thick thanks to the abundant dry extract that also buffers the powerful, serious and intensely mineral-driven finish where a similar hint of bitter zest appears. This is presently an almost impenetrable block and to my taste this is best purchased with the intent to cellar it for at least a decade. BURGHOUND
