Zalto BalanceThe idea behind 'Balance' was to design a glass that would bring out the best in new-wave artisanal/low-intervention wines that emphasise texture and structure as much as fruit. Michael Hinterleitner, whose family owns Zalto, explains, "We have been testing different prototypes for two years to create a glass that harmonises certain aspects of wines not often found in conventional winemaking."
So, after two years of intensive tastings and discussions with winegrowers and sommeliers, 'Balance' was born. Zalto recommends the glass for deep, complex whites-Chardonnay and full-bodied Riesling, for example-to fully show their depth and subtlety while harmonising aromas and flavours without concentrating one element. La Valdotaine Di Leone Amaro (700ml)Dente de Leone (Italian for "wild dandelion") is a common plant whose roots, leaves and flowers are all edible. Traditionally, it was a base for herbal medicines and liqueurs and is believed to be beneficial for health and digestion.
Amaro Dente di Leone is made from the mountain variety with its smaller, heartier leaves and intense aroma. This Amaro blends dandelion with gentian and genepy herbs. Brown with intense orange hues obtained from muscovado sugar without the addition of caramel. The fragrances of the herbs used in the recipe emerge, blended with the characteristic aroma of Dandelion. Full and round, balanced in the alcoholic note and with the typical taste tending to liquorice of muscovado.

Possibly the most masculine Fonseca I've ever encountered, it coats the taster's palate with licorice, jammy black fruits, and notes of chocolate that last for over a minute. Australian glass artist and printmaker, Brian Hirst creates some of the most visual and tactile wine decanters. Brian's standing in the art world is revered - his pieces are exhibited throughout the world, including galleries in Sydney, New York and Paris - in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

This bowling ball G+B decanter was a collaboration between friends Giorgio de Maria (leading Italian importer) and artist Brian Hirst (hence the name G+B). A former sommelier, Giorgio helped design a decater that moulds into your hand, making it a pleasure to use.
