A very good vintage for Chardonnay in Margaret River.This is a fine-boned and fairly lean expression of MR Chardonnay, and I’m trying to decide if it’s just a bit too lean, or just a cooler style. It’s floral, white fruit and grapefruit, a firm kiss of ginger oak, which subsides with some airing, and slight struck match. It has some sour yoghourt in with white fruit and citrus, almond too, a pleasing chalk dust texture, and a bright finish of good length and tangy citrus zip. Nice wine. Lively. The energetic palate is light to medium bodied with the wine's fine-grained tannins and bright acidity making for a delicious and refreshing mouthful. Gosh this is an attractive wine. So many violets and indeed so redolent generally of a garden in bloom. Blue and red berried fruit flavours come melted with potpourri, sweet spice, leaf matter and twigs. Fruit and florals are the drivers but then the extras are tucked within. Mint and blood orange characters are here too, along with a decent crack of tannin. This is obviously meant to be consumed in its youth but even so, a quick double-decant does it a world of good. Delamere Sparkling Cuvee NVDelamere Vineyards were planted in 1982 in the Pipers River region in northeast Tasmania making it one of the oldest plantings not only in the region but in Tasmania. They have 6.5ha under vine and its age makes it a rare resource in Tasmania. The ironstone rich soils are perfectly suited to the cultivars of pinot noir and chardonnay, and was established in the traditional French design used in Burgundy and Champagne.
The low yield per vine and the reflective heat from the ground produces wines with superior depth of flavour and ripe well-developed tannins. Vine age and subsequent natural balance are key factors in the consistent production of wines with great structure and harmony.
Perfumed and pretty on the nose but then racy on the palate. It feels like a low-dosage style. Strawberries, lime blossom, grapefruit and lemon rind.
