Records date this Erste Gewächs vineyard back to 1339. Krone is a steep, southwest-facing site on grey slate and quartzite soils, it’s a warmer site within the cooler Lorch microclimate. This vineyard is home to some of Fricke’s oldest vines, with many planted in 1955.

The incredibly intense nose of lemon balm, yuzus and Amalfi lemons pulls you into this extraordinarily concentrated and focused dry riesling. Only medium-bodied, but then the supercharged wet-stone minerality builds to an awesome crescendo in the finish that shows complexity and harmony. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drinkable now, but best from 2027. (99) STUART PIGGOT

The 2024 Lorcher Krone Riesling Trocken is clear, deep, coolish and fresh on the dense yet pure, lemony, well-structured and complex nose. Round and creamy on the palate, this is a full-bodied, refined and mouth-filling Riesling with fine tannins intermingled with serious mineral grip and structure. It is very intense and persistent. 12.5% stated alcohol. STEPHAN REINHARDT
