There are two Pithos skin contact wines in the COS cannon, this is the first. It's 100% Grecanico, also known as Gargenega in the north playing a starring role in Soave. In Sicily Grecanico delivers riper and richer wines than it's northern neighbours, but pair it with extended time on skins in large terracotta vessels and it becomes an entirely different beast. Ripe stonefruit is pierced by Morrocan spice and floral highlights. Add the bitter tang of cumquat and a swather of stoney tannin and you are just about there. ALEX DOBSON
