From a parcel of dry-grown bush vines planted in the 1940s, fermented as whole clusters and aged in a single, larger-format cask. Very fragrant aromatics with sweet spices and almost flinty, dry-stony elements to the nose, together with wild raspberries, ripe red plums and sappy elements. Dried-rose and orange-zest notes, too. The palate has a very succulent feel with great length and tautness and a firmer, more intensely structured feel. More orange peel and blood orange here with red berries, too. Crunchy, almost peppery edge at the finish. Serious and delicious grenache here. Good now, but even better in a year or two. (97) NICK STOCK, www.jamessuckling.com

Raspberry, rosy perfume, a little spice and dried herb. It has a cranberry crunch to acidity, savoury and a little earthy, firm emery tannin, plenty of depth, and a long gravelly finish. Lovely, but very serious! Excellent. GARY WALSH, www.winefront.com
