Wickhams Rd Chardonnay & Pinot, Yea

Made by the guys at Hoddles Creek; the Wickhams Road wines are made with the same philosophy used with Hoddles Creek. They are single vineyard wines with the care and attention that has made Hoddles Creek such a success. The difference with Wickhams Road is that it has been sourced from trusted growers around Victoria. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, winefront.com

If you love Hoddles Creek, you’ll love these. Just like Hoddles, these will leave you shaking your head in admiration as they’re famous for overdelivering on their humble price points. Just $18 each in straight dozen buys!

While Hoddles Creek wines are from their estate in the Upper Yarra, their Wickhams Rd label looks further afield, working with trusted growers. For this chardonnay and pinot they’ve headed just up the road to Yea in Victoria’s High Country.

Could these be the best value pinot and chardonnay in Australia? I think so. Just look at the reviews below from Gary Walsh and Philip Rich. On the chardonnay, Rich commented, ‘you have to wonder how winemaker Franco D'Anna can make a wine this complex at the price.’

The wines are all made at the Yarra Valley winery, just 30 mins from where the fruit is grown in Yea where the climate mirrors the Upper Yarra. The wines are flourished with detail and a sense of fragility and with over six months in bottle they’re blossoming nicely.

The only issue with these wines is the frenzied fervour these will create. They’re not from a mass produced winery so stocks are finite, we’ve tried to secure the motherload (in the scheme of small wineries) but it won’t be enough. Like the Hoddles Creek wines these will sell out in a day or two.

If you’ve had these or the Hoddles Creek wines before you know the quality of fruit Franco d’Anna is growing in the Upper Yarra. These are a beautiful constant in our releases, they’re a no-brainer to write up and to buy as you know they’re worth using up your drinking credits.

These are the mid-week wine that will level up your drinking without breaking the budget. For $18 each in a straight dozen buy you don't need to think twice on these beauties.
