Clouet's rose epitomises elegance and focus… A pristine and enticingly priced rose. TYSON STELZER

Remarkable in class and style. STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

Tasting after tasting confirm my impression that this relatively unknown and fast ascending house ranks high amongst Champagne’s finest practitioners of pinot noir – and represents one of the best values of all. TYSON STELZER, The Champagne Guide

In a world of ever increasingly expensive Champagne Clouet’s Rose stands out for its remarkable quality V hip pocket damage ratio. One of the best for a price that feels like it was pre covid era (too soon?)

The Rose Number 3 is the benchmark for Clouet, the wine he hangs his hat on. Sure, like every other producer it is a fraction of his total production, but like many of the best they take special care with their Rose offerings. Rose Champagne, when done properly, can be an entirely different and more interesting, beast than most others.

Firstly, I have to mention this bit, to say we get less of this than the other NV wines would be a drastic understatement. We get, quite a bit, less of this than the Grande Reserve or Silver. To give you some context, we have about half the amount of this as was purchased by customers from a recent Grande Reserve offer. It isn’t much in the scheme of things and it has a humungous following.

I wouldn’t be surprised if our entire allocation sold from this offer, which has been the case in the past. It’s not a sales pitch, it’s a statement of fact and a bit of a call to action. Get in or miss out.

What distinguishes this from an already highly distinguished stable of over achievers, is that perfume, that crunchy red fruited palate which sets off and accentuates the minerality at play, adding another dimension of pleasure, ramping up the appeal and also tweaking the overall theme towards one of a little more sophistication. The wine is also super food friendly, the perfect accompaniment to a number of canapes.

Let me be very upfront about what I am trying to say here. Clouet’s Rose out classes the vast and overwhelming majority of NV Champagne Rose on the market today and it is a hell of a lot cheaper than most of them! It isn’t just me, the critics around the world tend to agree. Don’t believe me? Check out the scores with your favourite or most trusted critics… I am just saying. Pound for pound, this is the Floyd Mayweather of Rose Champagne.

Look, when I reach for a bottle of Clouet, this is always it. I love all the wines but the Rose reaches out and grabs your attention. So beautifully harmonious is it and such a degree of refinement. It’s an excellent bottle of Champagne that is super value normally, in the context of great Champagne Rose then it’s an absolute steal, many of them are unreasonably expensive these days.

Champagne prices continue to soar but Clouet keeps his sensible, maybe the only sensible thing that wild man does, but we are grateful.

Cheers
