Voyager Estate
Voyager Estate is located on Stevens Road in the Boodjidup Valley, which is emerging as hallowed ground (Leeuwin, the western neighbour, Xanadu's Stevens Road vineyard and the vineyards of Voyager Estate complete the trinity of prestige in this neck of the woods). The estate was established in 1978 by viticulturist Peter Gherardi, and later purchased and expanded by Michael Wright in ’91. Michael’s daughter, Alexandra Burt, has been at the helm since 2005. The vineyard and winery are undergoing transition to certified organic status (due for completion in 2023) and there is extensive clonal and varietal experimentation in the estate vineyards. One of oldest producers in Margaret River, Voyager Estate was founded and planted in 1978 by the late, mining and agricultural entrepreneur Michael Wright in the Stevens Valley, within the greater subregion of Wallcliffe. Renowned for their vibrant Chardonnays and elegant Bordeaux blends, Voyager is now Captained by Michael’s daughter Alexandra Burt, with winemakers Steve James and Travis Lemm.
The team is committed to a “balanced and sustainable” form of viticulture drawing on many organic principals, with organic composts and seaweed extracts now replacing commercial fertilizer. The area experiences low disease pressure and well suited to this minimal interventionalist viticulture. The resulting fruit delivers elegant, classic Margaret River wines. Voyagers wines are well worth exploring!
